On Monday, September 9th at 6:10 pm CST, Your Houston Texans will be in New Orleans to take on the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The game will be aired on TV on ESPN and on KILT AM Sports Radio 610.

This should be a fun game to kick off the Texans season on Monday Night Football in Prime Time. I'm fully expecting a high flying, high scoring affair. I don't think O'Brien is going to go into this game with a conservative game plan. I think he's going to try to get off to a fast start in this one and score first. We shall see.

The Texans will be fielding an improved offense with the additions of Laremy Tunsil at Left Tackle, Running Backs Duke Johnson and Carlos Hyde and Wide Receiver Kenny Stills. It's unknown of Will Fuller and Keke Coutee will play as of yet, but the offense should still be able to move the ball and score with regularity with all of the other weapons they have on hand for Watson to get the ball to. If Fuller and Coutee are available, that much better.
The defense, particularly the secondary, will still be a question mark. And with Clowney no longer in the mix, we'll just have to wait and see what Romeo will dial up and if they'll be effective at slowing Drew Brees and the New Orleans offense. Hopefully, the Texans offense can score enough to keep the game slightly out of reach of Brees and his offense.
This should be a high flying, high scoring game. Let's see if Watson can lead this Texans team to a season opening Monday night victory. I'll say yes he can just because of the homer in me.

Saints 30

Go Texans!

So does channel 13 still have the broadcast rights for the Houston area viewing? At least ESPN announcers have to be better than channel 13's guys.

They likely will. It usually is simulcast on 13. But I'll watch it on ESPN any ways.

For those of us without cable or other access to ESPN the simulcast is all we got.
I hear ya brother. For a long time all I had was 610 and listened to the games on the radio. Then got a TV and antenna and got the simulcast games. Been there done that. Now I have Xfinity so I can watch them on ESPN now. But I do believe the games broadcast on ESPN and the NFL Network will be simulcast on 13 still.

I think O'Brien will start with a handoff over left guard for 2 yards. Typical early season Texans still experimenting with lineup. Tunsil not yet acclimated to scheme or personnel. This one's gonna be nasty. Sinners 35, Toros 7.

I like the Texans +7. Saints usually start off slow.
This is a bet I’d really love to accept. The Saints are coming off a year where the refs handed them the ultimate screw job and cost them a SB bid. Yes, they normally start off slow but this feels like unusual circumstances. This game feels like a game the Saints have been salivating over since last season ended for them. And they’re at home.

New Orleans' roster has been finalized and the depth chart updated but the Texans roster still hasn't been finalized or updated. I did the best I could with all the current information on roster moves as I could, but it could still change in the next day or 2.

Tough matchup for the CBs. I’m concerned that there won’t be enough push up front to help the secondary with a pass happy offense. Watt could be triple teamed all night if they don’t respect anyone else on the front 7. Run defense will be a big focus the first game seeing how teams attack the edge without Clowney. LBs on paper are a strength so they will need to play like it.

NO has a good defense and offensively so many question marks that it’s hard to be optimistic after a hit and miss preseason and so much flux going into week 1. Chemistry is a real thing and with so many new parts it may be a few games before you see cohesive offensive football - here I go! Here I go! “I hope I’m wrong!!” Lol been waiting to drop that one.

NFL free agency rumors: Veteran corner Orlando Scandrick visiting Texans

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-free-agency-rumors-veteran-corner-orlando-scandrick-visiting-texans/cjueduj8wvm013rwew45zoa9j

Orlando Scandrick
Scandrick last played for Kansas City, appearing in 15 games for a Chiefs team that gave up the second-most passing yards (4,374) in the NFL in 2018. He tallied 44 tackles and one interception.

They worked him out but didn't sign him. Doesn't hurt my feelings. Remember the Ed Reed experiment?

The roster and depth chart for the Texans has finally been released and I made the changes in the post.
This team looks allot better then it did going into this weekend with all of the moves that were made. They might actually have a chance to be pretty good this year.
We shall see.
First chance to see them play? September 9th Monday Night Football at 6:10 pm against the Saints in New Orleans to open this 18th season of your Houston Texans.

GO TEXANS!!!

Shall we bet on who wins or loses?
Since I'm not a gambler, I'd say no, but just watch. This is a much improved team over last year. They'll be better this year then they were last year, and they were pretty good last year. Hide and watch.
I don't have any faith in O'Brien, but he doesn't play the games. Watson does. I do believe in Watson and Hopkins.

Cool.

If houston wins I create a sig that reads:

Jamtex is my daddy and I'm pregnant with his babies.

If new Orleans wins you create a sig that reads:

Powda is so big it hurts!

In the event of a tie we laugh and I buy you a beer.

I don't smoke either, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to get a few of the guys together at some sports bar some time, watch a game and have a few beers.

Who cares? Have you ever bet on something like this? I haven't. It's not money. Could be fun.

MUCH improved? How are they much improved? I'll give you Tunsil, but he's just 1 man. We may like the rookies but they're still rookies that are going to make rookie mistakes. And then you still have Martin likely starting at C.

Hard to say the defense is much improved because Clowney is not there any more. If anything, they just got worse. No idea if the additions in the secondary are better or worse than what they had before, and JJo is a year older regardless.

It doesn't bother me for anyone to think the Texans can win, but going out on that much improved limb, I just don't see it....yet.

I’ll take that bet. Houston wins week 1.

To be clear:

If houston wins I change my sig to:

"Amazing80 is my daddy and I'm pregnant with his babies."

If new Orleans wins you change your sig to:

"Powda is so big it hurts."

2 week duration. Sunday to Sunday to Sunday.

Questions @amazing80 ?

I doubt the line will have the cohesion that it will by week 4. Brees was really falling off the last half of 18. We have the fire power to hang with them, just too early to get it done.

Just adding Stills makes us better than last year. Instant replacement if Fuller or Coutee miss time. May even allow the Texans to let those guys heal & not rush them back.
