Brian Gaine Fired

This is self inflicted. Can’t be off his work here, something went terribly wrong, don’t know how, what or why but certainly out of character.

Really, can't be off his work? Steelb has beat about 20 horses to death making a semi-correct point. Under Gaine the Texans have been remarkably passive. If that's not what you want as an owner and you're willing to suck up the salary (NOT CHEAP ONE BIT) then now's a good time.

Cal definitely has every right and ability to do whatever he deems right as far as the Texans go. Hopefully he doesn't get much more stupid than he's already been.

17 months & he's seen all he needs to see from Brian Gaine. 5 years of watching BO'b say things like, "I don't know." "It's not my job." "The coaching has to get better & that starts with me."

& you think there's a chance BO'b will disappoint him?

What I am trying to say is that Cal was giving the “synergy “ of Gaine and OB a chance but after the draft and offseason he had said F it and realized he is was the final sat. And the only reason OB is still with the team is it’s the height of the season when you need a HC so it would be throwing away the season to fire the HC in preseason. Firing the GM has no real effect because the GMs busy season is over.

I will place a bet OB is fired on or before Black Monday if we miss the playoffs.

I think this is on the nose. My bet is that if we cant get past at least the wild card round or get shellacked in the divisional round then BOB is out.

In all likelihood the season is over anyway WITH OB so as much as I HATE to torpedo a single game or season... I'd be for taking our chances with a new HC the Colts game was inexcusable, period.

Thanks don't know how long I'm staying. Just couldn't pass up the latest FUBAR. And your argument against the M.O. is?

Cal reminds me of Sheriff Buford T Justice's son Junior.

LOL, me too.

Good to see you back.

Hopefully they upgrade.

I don't think so. Before restructuring the personnel dept would have been better. After the final cut would have been better. The day before they announce the guy they plan on hiring all along would be better.

What did I say? - no evidence. See thing about an MO is it's a habit, multiple examples. You've got jack as usual. Not my burden to disprove your fantasies. Give the habit examples?

Oh and which one of these did you say would struggle to get 2500 yds, maybe twice in his career?
Bortles 2717 yds, 13 Tds, 11 Ints
Watson 4165 yds, 26 Tds, 9 Ints.

Your acumen is legendary.

On a positive note,

He did call Wentz, I wanted Goff.

Ease up 'cak.... If he's engaged in an active argument he might stay longer.

Texans did not have the trading capital to move up to 1/2 that year. They would not have been able to trade up that high considering what it took the Eagles to do that. That is a fact. Paxton Lynch was their best QB option that draft.

I'm done rehashing that draft.

I stand by my post.

Great thing is Watson became a Texan. Positively speaking.

This "Texans 360" show is a joke.. they just glossed right over this steaming pile.

Isn’t that show the “official” Texans show? If so I’m not surprised their not digging to deep. Wouldn’t want to risk something making the organization look bad. Either the HC fighting with another GM, the owner having a knee jerk reaction, the former GM having some issue that caused him to be fired or multiple of the above.

Any of those would look bad on the front office.

For starters let's go with Cal's 42" waistline, that's a long time habit. His 2 big decisions each day is where is he going to eat and what is for dinner. Cal is a silverspooner and has always always worked in Daddy's shadow and never in a position to be the decision maker, right up until Bob passed away.

So now lets address Watson and Bortles this one time. Yes I got it wrong about Watson. I thought he would turnout to be a Taj Boyd. Clearly he is much better than that. I have always been man enough to admit when I get it wrong. You? Not so much. Now on to Bortles. Bortles has done two things the Texans have not, taken his team to the AFC Championship game AND was 1 quarter away from going to the Super Bowl. WHEN THE TEXANS ACHIEVE THOSE MILESTONES THEN WE CAN CONTINUE THIS CONVERSATION, NOT UNTIL THEN!

@DBCooper the reason I scurried off had absolutely nothing to do with Watson and everything to do with Kaepernick. When NFL players took a knee, I took a knee on the NFL. Cancelled my Sunday ticket, unfollowed just about every NFL connection and stopped posting on message boards. Now that Kaepernick is done shaking down the NFL and things have returned to normal, so has my interest, somewhat. Three days ago was the 75th anniversary of D-Day if that means anything to you.

Well I hope I am wrong about Cal but right now I see things going from bad to worse with Cal at the helm. People are saying that Cal wants to win. To that I say, so did Bob, probably more so than Cal. Yes they all want to win, they just don't know how. My crystal ball says after a couple of bad seasons, and I expect that sooner rather than later (schedule), Cal's siblings will begin to raise a stink and insist on wanting their fair share of the Houston Texans pie, in cash. Mama McNair will step in and sell the Texans in order to maintain peace in the family. For Texans fans this comes with a caveat and a BIG caution, be careful what you wish for and the grass is not always greener on the other side.

That doesn’t make sense, first the sibling can’t raise a stink because Janice stills owns it. Even for the worst of families they usually at least wait till both parents are dead before trying to split the inheritance. You could argue that they may want a more active role like Cal has but why would they at this point?

Even after she is gone it stills wouldn’t make sense to sell the team because no matter how bad the seasons Texans still sell huge number of tickets so they make more money keeping the team and then Cal paying dividends each year. I suppose if one of them is cash strapped then it’s possible but it’s much more likely Cal will buy them out and take sole ownership.

All in all an interesting theory but it’s got big enough holes in it even BoB’s play calling could get a RB through them.

On a positive note,

With each year Wentz misses time with yet another injury the choice becomes less clear. Wentz was front runner for MVP year 2 prior to tearing his ACL but Goff has been much more durable and looked better last season (though not MVP caliber).

Wentz has missed significant time his final college season and 2 of his 3 NFL seasons (with his rookie year being his only “healthy” season where he missed most of training camp with a rib injury).

Oh god this guys is back....

You move the goal post almost as much as Steel does. Bottles is trash and your garbage about the afc championship game is irrelevant.

What the hell does d day have to do with anything?

You ran away because you looked like a fool for talking so much ****

I’m not one to talk politics in a football thread but if D-Day paved the way for Kap’s right to protest and in effect gave us a reprieve from your “intellect”, makes me a bigger Kap fan now.

There's a Kaep thread in the NSZ. Take it there if there is further discussion.

Lol at the idea Kaep is why Texian took a hiatus.

I'm positive he's doing his best to run off another member.

If I wanted him gone it's a simple switch. Again you are demonstrably wrong. Texian self exiles when wrong. Won't admit he's wrong, just leaves. Got embarrassed in the NSZ for incorrect facts and left.

He's welcome here. He is also open to being called on making sh!t up.

Y'all need to talk. He thinks winning the salary cap championship is the key to a Lombardi. Or did you forget that?

Bwhahaha you watch too much TV.

Brotles was apart of the reasons why the Jaguars went to the AFC big dance. But it was that defense who actually carried that team.

Why doesn't Obrian ever get blamed for the bs going on around here. There's no way the new GM isn't going to be handpicked by Obrine. When the poop hits the fan, all he has to say is "it's not my job." He should have been gone a long time ago.

Agree, I think O'Brien made the call and Cal pulled the trigger. That has been Cal's M.O., doing what he's been told. O'Brien will likely hire a Belichick clipboard and notebook analyst who has never managed to be the next GM. Cal will fire O'Brien next year after a disappointing season and O'Brien's newly hired GM will be instrumental in hiring the next Head Coach and the boardroom silly cycle known as the Houston Texans continues doing the same things over and over again expecting different results. Welcome to square 1. It's what they know and what they do best. And why no high profile head coach or general manager will come to houston. It's detrimental to their career.
By all account O'Brien was onboard if not instrumental with the BG hiring and a chemistry between them deepened after the new GM moved into his job so why is everybody so quick to assume that O'Brien was involved in BGs dismissal ?
Several folks in these parts have pointed out that things might be different under Cal McNair after his fathers passing, so IMO I think it's possible that O'Brien knew nothing of Cal McNair's decision to dismiss Gaine until after it was made.

Based on reports there was friction between Gaine and OBrien

I dont buy the eroded part when no one saw this coming.

This is Cal being Cal. Many of us didnt like this offseason. Many of us could see what was being done. Cal thinks this offseason wasnt good enough.

I think I like Cal, he may think OB is a great coach but im willing to bet he ain't scared to let him go.
