Does anyone think there is a shot at all of Dillard making it to 23?

His feet are fantastic
I guess there's always "a shot" because it's the NFL Draft and you never know what will happen but, Dillard is the best LT in the Draft and it's not likely he will fall that far. I guess it boils down to the teams that need a LT, how bad they need one, and if they think Dillard is worth it at their pick or if somebody else is worth more. My guess is the Texans will go BPA with the 1st pick so, I won't be surprised if they end up picking one of the highly rated DE or DT's at that spot if they are better than the available OT's or CB's. I'm good with that. JMO.

Agree with that, well said R-Joker ! I've got faith in his judgment, his deliberate demeanor and I also like his approach in free agency.
Some folks on this Board who shall go unnamed seem to want Gaine to be a spendthrift and go thru the McNair families fortune at a rapid pace.
If he sees a real value I'm inclined to think he'll pull the trigger and pay the price.
Cheaass Org is what I called them. I'm going to LMAO when them being deliberate costs them Watson next yr. Ireally hope he doesn't get his neck broken. But I'm still going to laugh because that's what I've started to do at this orgs incompetence.

I anticipate the top OL being off the board and Gaine trading down.
Most likely outcome.

But hey, they've got a ton of unused capspace they can roll over to use in 2020. Where have I seen this dog and pony show before?

I'm still waiting for the carnival down on Kirby to put on a donkey show.

Some other team apparently. There are plenty to point to who routinely roll cap. 2019 Colts $49.1 mil, Titans $25.7 mil, Jags $11.7 mil. 2018 Titans $32.3 mil, Jags $27.8, Colts $16.8.

All three put our 1st two years of of even arguably high carry over to shame; 2018 $18.9 mil, 2018 $9.9 mil.

Sure glad you can get your jollies by being miserable... how much you pay a year for that?

Dillard would be an exciting guy to have but with the poor OL available in FA, I feel teams with needs will take a guy that ranks highly if he is there.
Williams, Taylor and Dillard will all fall before we get to pick.
Cody Ford would be an excellent consolation prize - regardless of where he is projected to play.

We have to get ahead of the Vikes @ 18 to get a top 4 OT... unless someone or 3 (hopefully) goes OG

Ford might well fall before our pick.
All we need is a run of 3 QBs to fall before us and this strong DL class should put Ford down to us.
Many mocks have him falling to or behind us.

This is the problem with getting too wedded to the top need being the top pick. History has proven there will be at least 10 excellent, elite players available at 23 even if some haven't been prospect profiled and ranked as such. Stay cool and get a great player unless he just can't be used. OT can be addressed in the next 3 picks.

This... There are so many good OL that will be available in Round 2-3. I expect 2 OL picks in the top 4 picks, A CB and a best available player. Trading down a little bit and getting a 3rd would be Ideal.

Throw Williams in there and I will agree with you.

Depending on how the draft goes, If all of the guys you listed are gone by say 18 but Little or say Williams do you trade up to get your LT or do you wait and hope your guy falls to you?

Dillard, Taylor, Howard and Greg Little are the only 4 in my opinion. Two of them will be gone by our pick and the other 2 aren't worth the 23rd overall pick.
Howard might end up a starter, but he's not a day one guy at all. There are a few pure LT's in this draft (Dillard, Little, Williams, Cajuste) who can reasonably be expected to play early. Taylor and Ford maybe if you think they can play LT instead of RT or OG, which I don't, but there are differing opinions. The point being is that there is an extreme premium on being able to protect the blind side vs just being a good OL. We can't mess around and miss out on our guy. A starting LT won't be there in round two. A starting CB could be, but not a starting LT. That's the premium. So if you think a guy is valued at 35 vs 23, and you feel sure he'll be gone by 35, you take him at 23 and don't look back. I thought we took Duane Brown about a round a half too early, but there was a run on OT's and we got the sixth one that year.

I looked it up the other day .... I think it would require our 3rd to get to the 17 - 18 area. Right now, it looks like Taylor, Dillard, and Williams may last until NY @ 17.

A lot of people don't think Williams can be a LT in the NFL. Dillard is the only one I think will be a LT and be worthy of the 23rd overall pick. I'd rather pick an Interior OL or RT worthy of a late first then pick Little and Cajuste at 23. Trying to force a LT at 23 leaves value on the board and quite frankly we could use a upgrade at all 5 OL spots and every single CB spot.

Haven't seen any talk recently but I really liked what I saw of Lil Jordan Humphries as a mid-late round pick. I really like a few of the quicker WR's in this draft and was really impressed with Isabella. Gaine mentioned adding a piece there, so don't be surprised. It's about value

If you wait for a "can't miss" LT in a draft, you might be waiting a long time.
And on top of that you would likely have to be one of the top three pickers in the draft and fight 24 other teams to get him so the odds are stacked against you every which way.
The solution? Competent coaching on a decent prospect.
Or get lucky and score a grand slam home run with Joe Average LT draftee.

LT other than QB is just as important as CB/Pass rusher on a team. IMHO

Maybe more important since your LT helps protect your franchise QB and having an elite LT also can help in the run game, which helps the defense by keeping it off of the field.

McLaurin is my pet cat. If he's their in the 3rd he's my guy. He's going to be a much better pro than college player. He's lean and fast, plus he runs good routes and is a great ST's guy.

Prospect fatigue. He's been a name since he was in HS. I'm 100% ok with him at 23 if Dillard is gone. Hyatt is my developmental LT/LG guy but he's a day three pick, not a day one starter.
We are thinking along the same lines.

As usual. I wonder if Hyatt's best position is center?

I like Dillard and Williams.

I wont be upset if Little is the 23rd pick. Depending on who's on the board.
You know it doesnt HAVE to be a LT.
The majority of the most dangerous rushers in the league rush against your right side.
If Jawaan Taylor were to slip within a 3rd round trade up, I'd seriously like to see it happen.

From what I've seen in games, for a zone based, spread, west coast type scheme, I think they - (LT's), rank Williams, Dillard, & Hyatt. Hyatt is not ranked that highly by most scouts, but I watched him a ton, and I saw a very competitive brawler. Many scouts disagree .... so I could very well be wrong. I do know, that he is spending all of his time with an OLine guru .... so he may emerge a better player. Conversely, I watched an awful lot of Little .... I wanted him to be the guy .... I really never saw it. There are so many scenarios, and so few picks ! I wish I would've watched more of Cajuste .... but in that offense, I couldn't take my eye of the ball.

Unlike most of the other draftniks, I dont like Taylor at all in the 1st rd.

Give me a combination of Little/Scharping for OL upgrades (I think Scharping will be a long time starting RT or OG at worst) and CB Long and I'm a very happy camper with the 1st three picks.

I agree on Scharping .... actually, I think McGary, Edwards, and Scharping would all make good right tackles. I would love to see McGovern and McGary on our right side .... and .... Dillard and McCoy on the left ! For Dallas, or any man/power team, can you imagine how strong Taylor and Ford would be - side by side !

You know it's entirely possible that we do in fact draft our starting OTs in this Draft as we did before in 2006, except one of them (Charles Spencer) had a career ending injury in his rookie year.

It will take a yr worth of experience before they will ready for contender status.

Taylor is a bona fide mauler and loves dishing out pancakes. Plays with a mean nasty streak and said to be the grizzly bear of this draft.
Big time run blocker.
Probably why he is top three OL in this class.

Arguably, right at the moment. But that is not the general case. Historically the best pass rushers have been on the offensive left side.

That fact is reflected in almost every prospect review...'probably can't be a LT, but will be a solid RT.'

I've thought about that - I wonder if it has to do with a player's natural side?

No, base 1 TE set had him lined up on the right hence strong side. The LB they faced was S(trong)LB. They were expected to be the primary rush side. A rush blocking RT was valued over a speedy pass blocker because he had TE help.

Left side was both left naked (no TE, primary RB assignment) and QBs blind side. So the opposing LB was the W(eak)LB.

LTs get paid twice as much because they face the best generally & often without help. Athletic, quick, long-armed, fast footed guys...LT. Mauler run blockers who can survive with TE assistance on the right.

Now guys like JJ Watt have jacked that equation a bit. But it's still generally true.

Great explanation

However times are changing and having 2 OT"s that can do both are getting more important than ever.

Expanding on Risner:

Love the power he has and mean streak in run game in particular.

Doesn’t hurt that he also shut down one of the draft’s best edge rushers Montez Sweat when they played.

I have a sneaky suspicion he’s going to be BPA on Texans board and I think him and Fulton are going to be paving the way for some 3rd and short conversions in the near future!

That would be a nice identity shift for the OL. LT position wouldn’t be “solved” but improved OL across the board, Davenport’s hopeful progress and Fells added to help out blocking would certainly make things look a lot different!
I wouldn't complain at all if the rd 1-2 picks were Risner/McCoy and either Cajuste or Howard. Who I really like as a RT is Scharping. An OL of Cajuste/Risner/Martin/Fulton/Scharping. Yep that's a much improved OL once they get a little experience.

Then pick a CB in rd 3.

You would have a good young OL that Watson can grow with

Risner’s nasty streak is one of things I like most about him. He’d bring some bite to our OL that I’d love to see.

A late round mauler prospect for OG that I’m intrigued by is Phil Haynes out of Wake Forest. I’d be willing to spend a 6-7th on him and see what he develops into.

Fulton flashed a bit of a mean streak as well while at KC. So theory would be elevated play at RT would improve play at multiple positions.
