Maybe game plan offense is a fancy phrase for throw it against the wall and see if it sticks.
Well, when it does not work, that what it kinda looks like and is to an even larger degree.

Belicheck is the first HC to run the spread in the NFL. The Moss Welker years and still carry some of the spread concepts in their offense today. I think this is the type of offense that BOB wants to run. But who knows.
Do you Know where Bill picked a lot of that up from?
Kubiak!
Lol! Chip Kelly
He actually went out to Oregon and spent some time out there learning how to perfect part of his system in the NFL. Shortly after the Brady and the Patriots were running the fastest offense in the history of the NFL as far as the hurry up offense went.
Hey, I got a new slant for the OP, if Watson shites the bed this Sunday.......is he gonna admit to owing the fans of Houston an apology?

You state that this is your opinion, so it's immediately irrelevant. If you want to be taken seriously here, you must state all opinion as fact and repeat it in every thread, regardless of the subject. Other than that, nice post.Thats the general progression, most teams don't just employ someone they aren't familiar with or is inexperienced to start working with the most valuable position on the team. You are generally a quality control guy, then an assistant coach for whatever position, then move to coach a position group like TE, WRs, then you go to QBs. If you do well there you go to OC.
This is just my theory on the matter, from what I have heard. What I have heard was they did the same thing they did with Ryan, that they did with Vrabel 3 years ago when he interviewed for 49ers DC position. They brought him back, had a meeting with him(probably bumped up his pay), told him to learn playcalling and game planning for 1 more year then he will be OC. Again this is my theory, I heard when he came back from his interviews this offseason he had a meeting with the McNairs, OB, and Gaine so that is my thinking on the matter. So my opinion based off of what I think is happening is if OB keeps doing poorly with play calling and managing the games at the same time, around week 8 or so pass the play calling duties over to Ryan and see how he does.

Negative.
It was an obscured HC with the Niners in the early 60s that first introduced a number of shotgun formation in games.
But it was Sid Gillman that really tied together all the concepts and make it a sustainable offense.
Mike Leach recently credited Gillman with the Air Raid and Don Coryell was known to be greatly influenced by Gillman also.
If you look at this playbook when he was a consultant with the Eagles, you can see two complete series (out of 8) designed to release all five reveivers.

Flashbacks of Buddy Ryan and Kevin Gilbride.Even before Belichick using those concepts in the NFL. I would give credit to the Run & Shoot era of the Oilers, Falcons and even Lions.
On the other hand, Belichick did know plenty about the run and shoot (since the late 70s), which is just another name of the spread.Reintroduced
Gillman was the guy who laid the foundation for Bum and the Luv ya blue years

Iirc, most of DWs ints are from some pretty long tosses. Like 30 yards plus. Not to say he hasn't chucked a couple to the other guys, but overall his TD to Int ratio is pretty good. Take out those long distance sort of hail Mary type tosses and his stats would be jaw dropping.

#Texans QB Deshaun Watson earned an overall grade of 84.4 on Sunday against the Giants, which ranked 7th among quarterbacks. He threw for 385 yards 2 TD and 1 INT.
-throws between the numbers: 19-19 for 296 yards and 2 TD
-throws everywhere else: 5-15 89 yards and 1 INT

]Throwing jump balls into double coverage should be excused because they are deep throws?

Hail mary type throws are no optuon, e eryone know's it's coming and you can't throw it away. Yeah, those should be discounted (as should tipped balls).
How many of his picks this season have been in end of game or quarter situations. From what I recall they have been drive killers when other options would of been better.
Watson is excelling in spite of O'Brien and frankly there is zero argument that could convince me otherwise. We had to go back to last year's Clemson offense to get any constancy in the first half.

Dude still misses a lot of throws. He has a highlight reel of misses this year
However I fully blame OB for this. Let the kid play. Thinking slows it down.
Well those 4-5 throws could have lead to a different outcome. The throw to Hopkins was totally on point and Hopkins didn't pull it in. DW4 has game but sometimes he flat out misses. I'll give the kid a break but we running out of games. Coaching is killing the kid but sometimes it's on himI only counted 4-5 throws that were accuracy misses among his 42 attempts, which is quite impressive for a second year rookie in such a horrible offense. There were as many late and wrong reads which again I'm going to call an overall plus result. Our offense is "Watson save us!" ... little run game, inconsistent (being nice) blocking, and O'Brien designing the offense which is slow developing routes. Watson should be fetal position Carr at this point, not putting up 350yds in spite of the mess.

So help me understand,
Anything good Watson does he does it on his own.
Any bad reads/passes/ints/fumbles are BOB's fault.

Are you defending O'Brien again?
It only took him 3 games to realize he needed to change his offense. Give OB another extension.
Maybe, just Maybe BOB was calling games trying to protect his franchise QB that was coming off of an ACL. With the season on the line he reverted back to the Clemson offense and is just hoping Watson doesn't get hurt again like he did last yr.
This is the only explanation I can think of and not my defending of BOB.

Do you think the offense we running last year was the reason Watson got hurt?
Why would he do that anyways knowing this line is practically new. And after watching game 1 and 2 film they were awfully atrocious. One would think he needs to move the pocket, get the youngster out on the edge would prevent him from getting his legs rolled up on like it did last year.
Nope, but I do think the Clemsom offense will lead to any QB getting hurt. Running QB's are more likely to get hurt in the NFL. I know you disagree.
"not defending of BOB" ... this statement doesn't at all match your posts. What has O'Brien done that still garners your support ... can you say anything without blaming someone else?
Wilson, Taylor and even Rodgers have had solid years of using their feet. Shoots Cam has had a good bed of health throughout his career as well.
You can not be scared to run what works out there. Dude got hurt standing tall in the pocket and not by using his legs.
