Play good, play every game, and the good money will be there.Play good and good money will be there.
If my knees were one sneeze away from exploding, I would also want a long term contract with a gazillion dollars guaranteed. His tag number will probably be $20 to 24 million by then, so every game he holds out costs him $1.2 to 1.5 million. And he still has no leverage. The 2019 cap is projected to be almost $190 million. Clowney will want to be paid by the Texans or be traded to someone that will pay him. His only leverage is holding out. And it's not really holding out if you don't have a signed contract.
Clowney will want to be paid by whomever will pay him. Holding out creates fewer suitors. You're really arguing one of the weakest arguments out there. Stay the course, Brian Gaine..The 2019 cap is projected to be almost $190 million. Clowney will want to be paid by the Texans or be traded to someone that will pay him. How so???Holding out creates fewer suitors.
Holding out over the FT, especially during the season, creates the impression of a malcontent. Maybe that's just my impression. lolHow so???
And BTW, I'm not making an argument for or against re-signing Clowney. Just stating how non-QBs feel about the franchise tag and how they use the only leverage available to them.
The holdout will give the impression that the player wants a long term contract. Holding out didn't hurt Duane Brown earn an extension.Holding out over the FT, especially during the season, creates the impression of a malcontent. Maybe that's just my impression. lol
I would think that every player regards the FT the same way, regardless of position. It gives less security than a long term deal.
Yes he was moving real well, looked strong and ready.Looking good JDC! Finished watching his two series and that dude is ready. Playing with leverage, power and cat quick off the snap. Prove them wrong baby!
Yes he was moving real well, looked strong and ready.
Of course that's just a dab of snaps in two series, very small sample size, but I still think he's ready for NE and he usually plays well against them as I recall.
Led by Clowney & JJ up front along with a steller group of backers we've got the horses to potentially overpower that Oline that the Patriots will start. What your looking for is a gimp. A lean in his stance. Something that tells you he's not right. It was the opposite. He was disruptive. Ok it was against LAs 2's but even more reason to make sure you dominate as everyone expects you to
We're going to terrorize Brady. Changing of the guard game.

If Mack landed the Bears (2) RD1 picks.....I would get the Jets on the phone since they were in on trying to obtain Mack. If the Jets wanted to toss a couple of RD1 picks at the texans for Clowney's services, how many of you would entertain this possible trade?
Me, I'd make the move in an instance. I'm projecting the Jets as a 20+ team in 2018 which could make one of those RD1's a pick inside the top 10.
I don't think Clowney's trade value is nearly as high as Kahlil Mack's was.
And you think there's potential trading partners out there who are willing to pay Clowney long-term ?We'd be stupid to NOT be shopping Clowney, and as much as I like him, this is one of those win-win situations if we can find a trade partner with a legitimate offer. We're not going to pay Clowney long term (but are probably willing to lock him down for a year or few with tags) and Mercilus can fill the gap, especially if Watt insists on being outside DE needing someone to play across from him.
I would be more than happy with a 2nd round pick. Offer a 1st rounder and I'd pick up the airfare and relocation expenses.I don't think Clowney's trade value is nearly as high as Kahlil Mack's was.

100% absolutely. Maybe not Mack level, but his value is very close. We're jaded by CND's analysis, coaches see how Clowney has destroyed the line of scrimmage the past couple of years.
I guess if you want me to, I'll talk to some of my connections and see if we can't sit down and rewrite medical history and make Clowney's future more rosey for you.

I knew that came out more sideways than it was supposed to, sorry doc lol. The intent was more like draft prospects - a player misses his freshman and sophomore seasons with serious injuries and deterioration, but then leads the SEC in sacks and tackles for loss the next two years with an otherworldly combine. We get the true story thanks to you, but coaches get the 'tell me what I want to hear' medical version ... and he goes first overall. That's where Clowney is as trade bait, the past 2 years he's arguably been better than Von Miller and Mack as the most disruptive player at the DE position. We know what's going to happen, but a coach seeing that performance with a medical staff saying 'we got this' will pay Mario Williams money ...
What was is it that Barnum guy said, something about a sucker being born every minute. I dunno maybe there''s one of those lurking out there among the other 31 ?100% absolutely. Hey man I'm a big Clowney fan and I'd be the last one to deny his talent. It's unfair to sell him short, Clowney as I said has arguably been the most dominant defensive end in the NFL over the past 2 years. His talent trends to the less sexy tackles for loss more than a pass rusher, but he's had little help. Just because we expect him to fall apart in the next few years doesn't take away his talent, and a coach seeing that performance in consecutive seasons wouldn't be in the wrong to want him anchoring their defense.
Teams aren't dumb. They see Clowneys injury history and that the Texans haven't offered an extension.
They could just wait for him to hit free agency.
In three years.
Yeah, with the amount of guaranteed money they're now throwing around the damn tag sounds like a bargain.
yeah, you can't just look at the absolute number without looking at what percentage of the team's cap that number eats up.the numbers look big, but the percentage of the cap is relatively the same. Infact someone tweeted out earlier JJ took up a larger percentage of the cap when he signed then Mack is now

Jadeveon Clowney for Leveon Bell?
RBs are a dime a doze, but JDCs are not.Jadeveon Clowney for Leveon Bell?

If that's true how come we haven't bought a dozen? We have the dime.RBs are a dime a doze, but JDCs are not.

If you go there then all I need to do is go Arian Foster. That dime got us Alfred Blue and Tyler Ervin. Sounds like we're gonna need more than a dime.
If you go there then all I need to do is go Arian Foster.
Of course I'd pay good money/cap space or a reasonably high pick for a talented RB but a top 5 pick or the kind of money it would take to sign and secure Bell is
a fool's gold IMO.
Stretching that dime pretty thin. Foster has been gone for 3 years. But I'm down. Since they're a dime a dozen which UDFA do you think will lead the league in rushing?
RBs are a dime a doze, but JDCs are not.
now to be fair, he didn't say GOOD RBs are a dime a doze.If that's true how come we haven't bought a dozen? We have the dime.
It's not meant to be takin literally, you must understand that. You keep saying this and it's just as stupid each time. There are only a handful of gifted RBs in the league.
It's not meant to be takin literally, you must understand that.
It's hyperbolic and even silly but makes my point which is a team, mainly my team the Texans, shouldn't spend stupid money/cap space on a back.
