2018 Texans Player Transactions

makes sense. special teams is one of the more violent aspects of the game. Hard to help out in that area when you're always hurt.

Really sorry to hear about DQ for multiple reasons. They carry the guy for 2-3 years while he fights cancer. The guy finally gets back from a life threatening condition, works his hiney off and looks like a good backup that can cover any position on the line other than perhaps LT - and then they decide to cut him? I don't like that move at all. 4 sour grapes for that move. :(

Prosch is another surprise. I figured they would keep him because he does play on 4th down but I'm meh about that one.

Peter K over Keyes is all about ST. Last night, Peter showed his stuff on ST, and that won him a job - or so it appears.

I am a little surprised they cut Braxton but not shocked. He made a lot of strides but if he wasn't going to be in the regular rotation at WR, then I understand. I think they had 3 guys with a similar role/style, and he was seen as #3 on the list and if you are that guy AND you aren't a good contributor on ST - you're in trouble. I get it. Still not super happy about it because I think he's a riser.

I see Gaine has the advantage of not trying to save face by hanging on to high draft picks from just a few years or so ago.
A good thing in my book. Allows new blood to come in and try to make a name for themselves.

Outside of Miller being drafted in the back half of the 3rd round, who did the Texans draft high that they have cut?

More interested in who we pick up. Texans have no depth. OL, TE, RB even though Pope looked OK. Just stay healthy this year.
Agree.
I hope they pick up a OT. They are currently forced to hold onto K Lamm due to a lack of depth - not a healthy situation.
They also cut Steven Anderson so I imagine a TE is high on their wishlist.
Meanwhile, there seems to be a near concensus among the pundits on this board that our running game is in need of an upgrade.

Didnt know the question was about Gaine, but he was director of player personnel for the Texans from 2014-16.

Yeah I read Texansphan’s post as Gaine has gotten rid of multiple high draft picks. Thus, asking who else besides Miller.

This is Gaines first draft as GM, so he hasn't cut any of his own picks.

Right. But he also only cut one of Rick’s high draft picks. He isn’t cutting multiple high draft picks that RS wasn’t willing to do himself to save face.

Oh ok I see what you're saying. No he hasn't cut a lot of Rick's picks at this point.

I thought Treston Decoud was a third rounder. He was actually a 5th.
Point is, (as I mentioned) that Gaine is not afraid to ditch draft picks if he thinks it improves the team.
This is a good thing in my book.

Evidently Jones-Smith OT was not valued as highly as I valued him.

If you had to build a ROT, it would pretty much be shaped like him. Of course that doesn't take into account - athleticism, intellect, attitude, or intangibles .... but maybe it's just coaching and repetitions ! Speaking of building one, did we keep Matt Lengel ?
