2018 TT Mock Draft Selection Thread

Thanks Lucky!

@edromeo missed his last pick so I suggested we give him Noteboom. He hasn’t said he wanted anyone else. I suggest we do a team selection for Arizona to get to Houston and get this mock draft moving!

The Arizona Cardinals draft team had an emergency draft session that forced them to miss the 15th pick in the 3rd round (79) but they are now ready to select:

OG Austin Corbett

NFL.com draft:
Sources Tell Us

"He's smart and just solid all the way around. Long time starter in the league. I think he'll end up at center." - AFC offensive line coach

PFF:

G/C Austin Corbett, Nevada
After playing left tackle at Nevada, Corbett will likely move inside at the next level, though he adds value due to his ability to play anywhere up front. He was a four-year starter at Nevada, allowing only 23 pressures over the last two years and consistently grading well in the run game. Corbett’s hands and technique give him a chance at the next level, and he showed extremely well during his week at the Senior Bowl when playing both guard and center. Corbett’s multi-position flexibility combined with four years of strong production make him a solid mid-round option in this draft.

My group pick for the Texans is Duke Ejiofor (DE, Wake Forest).

Like the Bates pick earlier, Ejiofor is by far the top guy left available on my board (he's a top-50 prospect IMO). He has the most polished pass rushing skill set in this draft after Bradley Chubb and has the ability to play both DE and OLB like Clowney. He's gone way under the radar after missing the Senior Bowl and Combine because of labrum surgery. I'm of the opinion that we really need to add pass rushers. Clowney is on the upswing but Watt is coming off yet another major injury, Mercilus has been on a downslide since his career year in a contract year, and we have zero depth behind them. We finished 23rd in sacks last year and 24th in 2016.

If you guys are dead set on addressing offense then I would say Dalton Schultz (TE, Stanford). He's an athletic inline guy who was underutilized at Stanford but projects to be a pretty good pro.

Texans draft so far:
3 (68) S - Jessie Bates, Wake Forest
3 (80) OT - Chukwuma Okorafor, Western Michigan

I agree with you about Ejofor and I believe he's from Houston.

With that said, I want to give Watson as many weapons as possible. Shultz best football is ahead of him and Stanford TE's have a history of becoming solid to above avg players in the NFL.

I would go another OLB prospect, his teammate from Alief Taylor, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo. Natural 3-4 SOLB, something neither Mercilus or Clowney are.

I also would be happy with Dalton Schultz

This is why I lean Schultz. Steeper dropoff at TE than other positions. Like steelb said Schultz has his best football ahead of him and Texans need to give Watson every chance to succeed.

Bates was more unrealistic than Duke Ejiofor so why not? Long as we're living in fantasy TT Mock Draft world.

Sell me on Duke with first selection of the third round not end of supplemental.

Schultz is real deal, bigger need and the more realistic selection that Texans might actually make in this slot!

I don’t think Schultz has the strength to play inline. There are better blockers later and Schultz doesn’t show enough as a receiver to take this high.

I think Ejiofor is a base 43 DE that doesn’t have the explosiveness to play off the edge.

I don’t think Chuks is going to make it as a OT and will have to kick inside.

I don’t think Bates is physical tackler. But I do think he might be able to move outside and become a Jason Sehorn type CB.

I think the Texans really need a compliment to Miller , but I don’t see one worth taking here. I tthink the Texans still need a OT, but the most talented are the most raw. This draft is weak at edge rushers. It’s deep in nickel CBs. I think there are some slot WRs that could provide value. Keke Coutee would be my pick here.

Seems like everyone that wanted in to vote got in.

with pick #98, The Houston Texans group pick selects: Dalton Schultz, TE - Stanford.

With the #99 overall pick the Denver Broncos select Daesean Hamilton WR Penn St. Depth at WR sorely lacking for the Broncos. Hamilton gives Keenum a big bodied slot weapon.

It looks like Fuzzy logic missed his pick

Time to move on to the Bucs and Ed Romeo

Then we have the Texans pick

So everybody start thinking about who you want to pick. Discuss?

Instead of outright skipping people's picks I propose the group just make a pick for them. That way we maintain a realistic board of players and keep the draft moving.

Jackson has translated his exceptional speed into a successful collegiate career in track and football. He won state high school titles in the 100 and 200 meters, and joined the Tigers' track squad to race in the 60 and 100-meters and win conference titles in the 4x100 relay. Jackson's play on the football field is what really intrigues scouts. He played in all 12 games, starting once, as a true freshman (26 tackles, one interception, two pass breakups). Jackson started 11 of 12 games in 2016, intercepting two passes, breaking up six others, and being credited with 39 tackles. SEC coaches voted him second-team all-conference in 2017, as he started 12 of 13 games played, posting 49 stops, 3.5 for loss, an interception, and 10 pass breakups.

Cover corner with below-average size, but elite speed and athleticism. Jackson lacks instincts but has rare closing burst so there will be feast-or-famine games in his future. Due to his slight frame, teams are sure to test his resolve and durability in run support. Jackson's athletic traits should ensure that he makes plenty of plays on the ball, but he'll need to develop better route recognition and focus in order to reach his full potential. Jackson should find early work as a third cornerback.
Strengths
  • Brings elite athleticism and speed to the field each game
  • May be the fastest player in this year's draft
  • All the make-up speed you need
  • Loose and fluid with super-twitch
  • Smooth backpedal with very little wasted motion in transitions
  • Plus body control to handle tight or off coverage
  • Electric in click and close to the football
  • Closing burst increases ball production
  • Has traits and cover ability to play outside or in slot
  • Closes out separation from breaks very quickly
  • Has ability to bait quarterbacks into interceptions
  • Takes steep pursuit angles and can beat running backs to the corner
  • Learned under former LSU defensive backs Jalen Mills, Jamal Adams and Tre'Davious White
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tampa has been looking to improve their defense and Dante has more then enough speed to run with anybody

That's not how Cak/Lucky want to do this and I'm fine with however they want to do this.

My Texans pick would be Noteboom, he's very technically sound and do you really trust Davenport/Henderson as your OT's. Even if you hit on Davenport/Henderson and Okorafor you could still play Noteboom at OG where he has experience.

Wouldn't it be great to have great young depth along the OL? No more Lamm/Clark/XSF etc... If your #1 objective is like mine in this draft is to

1. Do everything humanly possible to protect Watson
2. Provide Watson with as many weapons as possible the way this draft has fallen would be optimal. I'm looking WR in the 6th.

You can sign Demps to provide S depth.

Nice pick up.
Gil Brandt has him as his 39th ranked player on his top 150.

My Houston board would be:
Uchena Nwosu Edge
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo Edge
Tony Brown CB
Michael Gallup WR
Alex Cappa OT
Sean Welsh OG
DaeSean Hamilton WR

Texans also need a playmaker, on the cheap, out of backfield, who is well rounded, can chip/block in pass pro, possible three down back with excellent pass catching ability and nose for end zone.

Mark Walton, 5-9 202 Miami

John Kelly? but can he pass block?

John Kelly? but can he pass block?

From what I’ve seen, he has poor technique, hand positioning, setting base and footwork, looks disinterested.

Walton despite his size, takes it personal, takes fight to aggressor, like a chihuahua, lol, that’s not nice to either. Seriously, sets his base, gets position and engages with quick hands.

Here is Dane Brugler Summary:

A two-year starter at Miami (Fla.), Walton earned team MVP honors after his productive 2016 campaign and was poised to surpass his sophomore numbers this past season before his season-ending ankle injury. He was a do-everything performer for the Hurricanes, making plays as a rusher, receiver, blocker and special teams performer (six coverage tackles in 2016) over his career. With his upfield decision-making and run-to-daylight vision, Walton has the start/stop athleticism to break ankles and eloquently regain his balance. With suspect run power, he is a better outside runner than inside, displaying the cut-and-accelerate burst to deceive defenders who think they have a beat on him. Overall, Walton might not have ideal size to handle a full NFL workload, but he has the athletic balance, desire and versatility to be a multi-situational running back and special teams standout.
