Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

Good get for ST but he should only play on D in a pinch. Pretty big contract for a gunner! God knows the Texans need help at ST, so I'm happy.

Looking over available FA remaining, the only real plethora of talent remaining is at safety. There is one great option, a couple of very good options, another couple of good options, and a couple of fair options.

I'd go all in on the "not honey" badger, and if he bails and signs elsewhere I would immediately turn my attention to the next on my list. If that is Reid, so be it. Dude is a moron, but he is far less in the spotlight than Kaep, and I can live with his political views if he isn't a locker room lawyer or continues to cause waves. Beyond him, there are still some decent to good options that would represent an upgrade and/or provide depth.

I'd also try to sign Gaines at CB either way. I'd also look at DL and LB for help in FA if possible, and make the draft mostly about the offense. I'd draft a tackle, a TE and a RB in round 3 and maybe look at a WR with return capability in rd 4. After that, just go with ST aces either side of the ball.

Give me Boston over Reid. Boston had a better yr last yr. Agreed about Gaines.

I don't like the idea of penciling Martin in as the starting Center. I know his draft position may make this inevitable but it's these kind of moves that just set a team back.

Mancz played a full season in 2016 and Martin got the job for 2017....bottom line, Mancz had a way better season with essentially the same personnel. I think if O'Brien and Devlin let these guys have an honest competition for the starting job, don't be surprised if Mancz wins the job.

I like both Fulton and Kelemete but Allen will still be there and I think he would win the starting LG spot...that's not a bad thing.

As for the LT's left in free agency....they're an injury prone and under-performing group. Most have had some serious injuries, one has a serious blood clotting issue and one is considered a RD1 bust. Regardless, the Texans still need a LT. The highest rated LT still on the board is Greg Robinson....a RD1 bust who was playing ok last season as a starter when he got injured.
I get the thinking that playing Allen at LG makes a lot of sense, but has anyone with the Texans given any hint that this will happen?

If we get an upgrade out of both him as a player and the LG position then that's great, but XSF has taken that position on draft status alone without production for years and the staff still haven't done the sensible thing.

That’s not how it works. Never has, never will.

Exactly. I mean do people realize the last time we had a kickoff returned for a TD was damn near 10 years ago in 2009 with Jacoby Jones?

I don't have the stats, but i'm damn positive every team in the NFL has had at least 1-2 kickoffs returned for a TD in that same time frame; maybe more.

So if this guy is a special teams wizard and can help with us getting better there, by all means sign that guy...............................................................just don't let our depth at cb get so bad that he has to see the field on defense.

Seely is up, let’s hope he can turn this ST around.

Lol, not a whiff of support of communism.

Only a simpleton looking to criticize would see a black man wearing a Malcolm X & Castro t-shirt and think the point was about Castro.

You'd have been a lot closer calling Kaep a Muslim.
It's about as tone deaf as McNair's inmates comment when Kap is talking to Cuban-Americans while wearing a Castro shirt.

Texans are trying to bargain shop at the dollar store then wondering why the new toys break.
While I don't completely disagree with you, I think you can find good talent at the RB position late in the draft or in the pool of undrafted free agents. OL/DBs/TE better use of FA money. Can use the committee of RBs approach which is cheaper without having a big dropoff in production.

Don't want him as a starter. We have a virtually unique starter. We need a backup who can practice the same playbook.

Please with the picking and choosing. TDs, INTs & rating have long been the top 3. 4th would be comp % and he has hovered around 60% thru his career. Borderline, although he is known to take more shots down field.

Crazy thing is Savage sorry ash got picked up by the Saints. And people on here talking about Kaep regressing. Dude is a much better QB than the trash we had before Watson, especially Brock and Savage.

I really don't get some people logic or lack thereof.

Principle over production like the separation of church and state . I want quality on Sundays and that trumps my panties from getting bunched up over small things .

Agreed. From his workout yesterday...
Looks like he can still sling it around.

His final year in the NFL was in San Francisco back in 2016: 2200+ passing yards, 16 TDs to only 4 INTs (90.7 QB rating) on a very bad 2-14 team with hardly any talent around him on offense.

Some guy keeps saying that he was benched in favor of Blaine Gabbert that year, but more like Chip Kelly was an idiot head coach in the pros. Blaine Gabbert in 2016: 5 TDs and 6 INTs. 68.4 QB rating. He played much worse than Kaep did with the same crappy talent around him.

The proof is in the pudding. Common sense 101.

Last time Kaep was on an NFL field he could still play at a very high and productive level. People need to stop spreading the lies and talking about his regression.

If you're only asking him to be a backup behind Deshaun Watson with an All Pro wideout and some decent talent around him. I'm not sure why he couldn't do that.

Like you said, he'd be better than Tom Savage and Brock Osweiler.

Why y'all can't let the Kaep discussion go is beyond me. He isn't going to be a Texan. Chances are, he won't be an NFL player again. If he wants to even try to resurrect his career in a serious fashion, he should try the CFL or even arena league. If he balls out, he might get another shot. Even dog killers get second chances in the NFL but you have to be humble, apologize and make amends. Not that I agreed with Vick's second shot BUT he did get his shot AFTER paying the price and humbling himself. Until he does that, admits his errors, humbles himself and most importantly shows he won't be a distraction to the team and a dividing force in the locker room, he's not going anywhere but McDonalds flipping burgers.

End discussion.

Now can we get back to some form of reality please :)

Wait I'm sorry admit what errors? apologize for what?

The antithesis of using a top 5 pick to draft a running back with which I completely agree, although lots of folks don't because for the third NFL Draft in a row one team very likely will use a top 5 pick to draft RB, namely Saquon Barkley.

Solder said money was equal but he chose NYG because his wife is from Connecticut. Looks we offered up a ton of cash after all.

This wasn't said, but while Texans fans look at the med center as a draw, once you find doctors you are comfortable with, it's very hard for many people to change for a theoretical "better." Comfort aside, in some folks' minds it implies they aren't already doing the best they can.

Per Rotoworld:

Texans claimed WR Sammie Coates off waivers from the Browns.

It took Coates just over 24 hours to resurface after being let go by Cleveland. Even with Corey Coleman hurt and Josh Gordon suspended 11 games to begin the year, Coates still played sparingly for the winless Browns, logging 92 snaps over 12 games last season. He's just a depth signing for Houston and will need a good showing this summer to make the team out of training camp.

Good size/speed prospect at WR that had 1 good game in 2016 season but otherwise has done nothing as a pro. Doubt he’ll make the final roster but if he plays up to his measurables/draft projection we should have a steal.

Gaine has killed the offseason so far; people are going to be mad we missed out on Norwell, Lewis, Malcolm, and solder but I think he’s doing well

The most impressive thing of all is the contract values. Texans are not overpaying for good talent. Only one I was upset we didn’t get was Solder but really interested to see Gaine’s backup plan. He’s earned the benefit of the doubt after snaring the Honey Badger for 7 mill!

I gotta give our new GM props! Solid moves so far with little to no commitment should these acquisitions not workout for us. I’m excited for the draft and all the undrafted free agents pick ups that are to follow.

More than enough money left to sign another safety.
I'm not very familiar with the remaining free agents.
Is there anyone left that would be a logical fit beside Mathieu?
Other than that, it seems like KJax would be a complimentary safety as far as his physical aspects and playing style is concerned, assuming they moved him to safety

They can now move KJax to safety. JJo, Colvin, KJo starting 3 CBs. Honey Badger and KJax starting safeties.

That's a pretty friggin solid, hard hitting secondary. Shouldn't be lots of YAC.

And im ok with 3 safety packages including Hal.

If kjack moves to safety there won't be instant results. Still a learning curve.
