Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

Also, the problem is mainly on offense and special teams. The defense still has plenty of talent

Now that they invested in CB.

Hopefully they invest in S as well.

Even if they dont get Mathieu (Although they certainly have the $$$$) I would hope they would sign a guy like Vaccaro. He did a very good job covering TE's last yr. A long time Texans weakness.

Are we getting the dang honey badger or not? They need to cut the crap and at least bring in one big name player with all that damn cap money!
I'll be surprised if he isn't a Texan before the week is over. I'd expect the Texans to sign him sometime today or tomorrow. This shouldn't take long. Time to spend that big money, aka all the cap space that people keep saying the Houston Texans have.

I think the biggest competition will be the Jets. His former DC is their HC and fellow LSU alum Jamal Adams has been recruiting him. He’d probably play more CB for the Jets whereas here i’d say he’d spend more time at safety.

Matthieu also had a kid with the one of the Jets coaches' daughter while at Arizona so there is that connection, plus New York could give home as much money if not more than the Texans could. Matthieu must want to come here .. would change the paradox that nobody wants to play here or continue it's growth.

Vaccaro is terrible..zero instincts and trash tackler. He followed in the footsteps of his fellow UT alum Micheal Huff. It's Mathieu, Reid or Boston for me only.

I'm wondering what they have planned with the second phase here now.

They could feasibly fix quite a lot of their depth issues with the space they have left.

This is the point where the real hard work is done, finding the lesser players who fit your scheme just right on the cheap. Something we haven't been so good at recently.

Mike Pouncey just released. Sign him and move Martin to guard.

While I like Pouncey - can we really afford another interior lineman? Seems like we are already carrying 5 or 6 of them... We really need someone who can play LT, but on the inside we seem pretty complete.

Houston Texans received another $810,000 in bonus credit for 2018 on JJ Watt's deal. Refund came through insurance the team has on Watt; and injury in 2017.

Houston Texans received $141,118 in 2018 bonus credit from Cushing's 2017 suspension.

Between the Fiedorowicz's reworked deal, credit on Watt & Cushing; and a couple of other adjustments...Houston Texans gained ~$6.201m in cap space.

Per @TexansCap
What the hell are they going to do with it ????!!!! Hope fanboy (McNair) doesn't just sign Clowney or other existing players and expect us to be happy. We already saw what this present team can do on the field. To be a REAL contender we need so much more than just a healthy Watson and the free agents we have picked up. Oh wait the draft that is where we will improve the team. Well... he did save 10 million by giving away our 2nd.
As long as there is a reason why they are creating all this cap space other than just resigning or just reducing the payroll let's roll the dice.
We need so much more.

I am OK with what we've done so far in free agency. With so many hopes to plug we have to be smart with how we use the cap space. Overspending to fill one hole is not the answer. I would have liked to see them sign Solder, but paying an average LT who has been on the decline record setting money sounds like one of those decisions you end up regretting down the road. I also am inclined to agree with those who opined he was determined to stay close to home and the Texans never really had a serious chance of landing him.

While I agree, bring in quality players and let competition settle the depth chart. Maybe the guy from NO can play tackle? Supposed to be best 6th man OL and can play all positions? Filton-Pouncey-Martin would offer a semblance of a pocket. Weak tackles I think Deshaun can scramble around. Penetration up the middle results in a negative play more often than not.

I'd like Doc to weigh in on his hip. Apparently, he has a degenerative condition, but I'm not Doc. I think the Texans take a pass.

That's the story. Supposedly can't practice much yet he played all 16 games last year .. decline in performance attributed to schematically weak assignments with TE compensation on down DL. But yeah hip is an eyebrow raiser.

The Texans are pursuing The Honey Badger relentlessly per Aaron Wilson. One of Mathieu's strengths is that he can play either safety position as well as cover slot receivers. Paired with Colvin who has not allowed a single pass for a TD in 4 years, our DB situation should become a formidable one.

I wouldn't be surprised that signing Mathieu could be a more expensive endeavor than Colvin.
If this is the reason for cap
10+ Seasons Played = 1.015M Annually.
Like the price but I really did not watch him last year. Does he have anything left? Did he play full season healthy?
If so maybe ???????

Any update on what JoJos contract looks like? I like having him back, but he is not really a #1 corner anymore... Hope we get a great safety to help him out... And maybe move KJax to the other safety spot.

He turns 29 this summer, took the most penalties among all centers last year, and graded out as PFF #34 centers out of 38. People are talking about his 2016 hip labrum AND hip fracture surgery, but lost in the discussion is that he had already undergone hip labrum surgery on his opposite hip in 2014. Furthermore, Pouncey has received stem cell treatments of his hips last April........not a great sign. With this history of hip problems/surgeries, I have to suspect that there has been an earlier history of steroid abuse sometime in the past. His type of problem is not one that can be expected to improve with time..........it is a chronic, progressive degenerative condition which he and the Dolphins have said will lead to hip replacements "in 5-10 years." I don't see him going more than a couple more years without hip replacement, if he continues to play. Sorry, but I wouldn't touch him as a FA prospect that can be expected to help our OL.

No idea what veteran minimum is. Less than a million?

There is a league minimum. It depends on accrued seasons. 2018 it will start at $480k for rookies and go up to $1.015 mil for 10+ seasons.

Then the vet minimum is an accounting matter. The player still makes the league minimum. But if a player with 4 accrued seasons accepts a league minimum 1 year contract with no more than $80k in bonuses then his salary against the cap is that of a 2 year player.

Cleveland releases CB/LB Jason McCourty 2017: 14 games started 65 tackles , 3 INTs-1 for TD, 14 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles 6' 183 pounds.

Colin Kaepernick was in Houston working out today.
But the Texans said they were unaware that he was.

Hmm... Interesting... I'd take him as a backup to Deshaun Watson!

Kaep looks good. Strong arm! From what I see in the video.

Let's sign Honey Badger, Kaep and AP.

A couple of quick thoughts:

1. No NFL team was out there? So he was basically playing by himself in a park?

2. The million dollar question is why would he be in Houston of all places when he is a West Coast guy?

3. And - he may have looked good to the one guy that was out there, but how did he look when they played the National Anthem? Totally different game when that thing is on.

Is it possible that Bill O'Brien is in favor of signing Colin Kaepernick to back up Deshaun Watson in 2018? He asked him to come work out in Houston? While no NFL team or personnel was spotted at the workout this morning it wouldn't be hard for O'Brien to have sent somebody undercover to capture the entire workout.

We shall see. We'll find out soon if we hear that the Texans are going to officially visit with Colin Kaepernick. It would make sense to sign him before the OTAs and mini camp. So he can learn the playbook.

Really surprised Cleveland released him. He played very well last season. If I had to guess, i'd say New England will pick him up to have a reunion with his brother/replace Malcolm Butler.

I don't think Tyrann will be signed by anyone any time soon. Unless someone blows him away with a huge contract. There's a lot of interest in him around the league and his agent is going to play the waiting game.

RGIII. Veteran minimum "prove you still got it" 1-year deal with an option. Come to camp and try to make the team. I'd put that on his table and see if he had any interest. In fact I'd make that offer to either Kaep or RGIII just to get the first one of them that took it slotted behind Watson.

Sure glad Savage is gone and that's no longer even an option for the Texans to consider.

Then I'd like to see the team get into the Terrelle Pryor market. There's my WR opposite Hopkins (Fuller and Ellington are in the slot and Miller goes home this year probably) and my QB3/Emergency QB.

Some more on this: it was clearly a private workout with Kaepernick and his trainers. I didn’t see any #NFL team personnel. #Texans didn’t know about it when I talked to someone there. It just looked like Kaepernick was grinding on his own dime.

Looks like he was traded to Pats per Ian Rapaport twitter!

Trade: The #Browns have traded Jason McCourty to his brother Devin McCourty and the Patriots… They are swapping 6th and 7th round picks this year.

Hopefully we are on Jason McCourty. He still has stuff left in the tank (as far as I know anyway...Doc might tell us that he had an offseason Backeotomy).

EDIT: Nvm...

that's what my sources saying also and all surprised he was let go.

I am OK with signing RGIII, but not interested in Kaep. I think he would be a distraction and question whether football comes second to making political statements and being in the spotlight.

But but, he’s one of those “N” words.......

He’s you know, a “Neeler”.

I would use another N word - Neanderthal. Or maybe Not Needed.

I'll throw in a P word and an S word - Stupid and Pathetic

Let him go play in Cuba. I'm sure they will welcome their fellow commie with open arms.
