Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

When you have 70M in cap space and glaring needs it's natural to want to sign at least 1 top FA no? Problem for Houston is free agency ended for them before it began. Optimism though, next year we'll have even more money or maybe the year after that. You know the modus operandi of this team. Patience keeps you mediocre in the NFL, proactive teams are the ones that flourish .

There are plenty of talented players to sign. We need a lot of help along the OL and secondary, one player won't fix those problems. We need a group of people on both sides of the ball.

That should be the plan....but the Texans have failed miserably at drafting the developmental talent in the middle rounds. The mid-round talent is what allows teams to get through the FA's they signed but usually have outs by the conclusion of the second or third years....about the time that developmental talent should be ready to step in or the talent failed to evolve and the team was forced to use a high draft pick on the position. Planning....planning and more planning.

Agree, plus they always let great talent walk because "they are too expensive" it's a joke. Glover Quinn, Brandon Brooks, AJ Bouye to name a few, but think busting the piggy bank on the Ed Reeds and Ahman Brooks of the world are good ideas. Just wait these clowns will sign some over the hill player for big bucks because well they have to spend some money. I'm through with the free passes to this franchise they need their feet held to the fire, not a bunch of support for stupid decision after stupid decision. At least in the past money was enough to lure guys here, now that doesn't even seem to do the trick.

Yep, dont want to do anything too traumatic. It looks like the left over cap space is going to be used to make broken knee Clowney the highest paid DL in the NFL. Brilliant use of resources.

Well takent level usually is commensurate with pay grade as is the higher draft pick vs lower draft pick argument. Yes there will be some anomalies scattered about, but it's usually pretty cut and dry. Plus I disagree, a great OL will change scheme immensely, as would a great DB .. were all just getting more of the same and are expecting different results .. it lunacy quite literally.

Watson is going to get killed with that plan.

Remember what I told y'all before last yr, the OL hasn't really changed that much unless Henderson is a stud. He will be playing LT next season, provided he doesn't get suspended. I hope he's up to the task. He's got talent. Gotta get a starting RT in the draft, even if it means trading up.

I agree - I just don't think we have a choice. Rarely does a rookie tackle contribute right away. And those that do usually go in the top 5. No way we get up that high. After that, it's a lottery. We get a better Chance the earlier we pick. But without a first or second rounder this year, this would be really expensive - and it would still be a lottery. I don't think that's worth it. Maybe go up in the second round.

Oh and absolutely get the Honey Badger. I think I would prefer him over anybody else out there...

lmao did you think we were going to field 22 superstars?

Some of you need a reality check on free agency. We are upgrading, but not possible to sign every top-tier player on the Earth. Shut up and wait for free agency to actually open

How about 1 top tier FA? Not 22

I will shut up when the OL is fixed. BTW, I know FA just started, but where are these top tier FA signings going to come from? Jags got Norwell, Tacks got Lewis/Butler. Texans?

Or maybe it's how OB builds the offense.

The defense looks fine. Pretty good actually. The offense is a mess every year.

You actually think BOB said, I dont need Solder?

The defense mmay be the better of the 2 units, but it's not because of the Texans getting the best talent in FA. Butler/Colvin as an example.

Not but I think he said he doesn't need Duane Brown and that Jeff Allen and XSF would be good

Well, that sucks. I find it strange myself - Texas have the better QB, better upside, better living conditions, better climate (although that one is debatable) no state income tax, and a world class medical center. If the offers were even in the same ballpark, why the hell do you pick the Giants. It's completely non-nonsensical.

I don't care what y'all say there is no freaking way in hell they will just go oh well, I guess we'll roll with Davenport and hope he becomes a decent LT. Hell no. They will either trade for a vet LT (not an easy thing to do) or more likely, they will target one in the draft and move up to get their guy so at worst, he's insurance if Davenport sucks and depending on the guy, might be a rookie starter or possibly a rotational guy with Davenport and see who develops fastest and best.

Unless they can pull off a trade for a vet, or pull a FA that can play out of a hat that I'm not aware of....I do agree we'll be as green as grass at LT in any event.

Looking at this a different way - that's 15 million/per that can (and BETTER) be re-allocated a different way. They better pull off some deals to strengthen other areas. It would be different if he had last years cap. Let's not forget the Texans have the 5th most to spend. Way more than Jax or Tenn, but while the division foes are making the big splashes from the high dive little Ricky Jr. (aka Gaine) is over at the kiddie pool sitting on the side, afraid to dip his toes into the pool.

We need a safety, another corner, maybe some help at LB or dline, RB, QB, and TE to name a few. And a WR that can be a returner would also be a find. Right now, I'm not impressed. He's being outmaneuvered in a major way. Let's see what the next day or two brings.
I suspect New Yorks proximity to Boston might have been a factor as the Solder family has their home in Boston and the child is already under the care of doctors in a Boston area hospital. Winter weather - Solder is a Coloradan and also a long-time resident of the northeast now so they might dread the heat, humidity, mosquitoes of the Houston climate ( I know I do as its back with us again before we know it).
35 million guauranteed - wow he better be good for the NY GMs sake.

They can trade up for a guy like Crosby/Noteboom or take a chance on a character guy like Harrison/Richardson, which is what I Hope they do. Any of these guys can hold down RT. I can tell you that Henderson will be a better LT than Davenport next yr.

What you've described is the predicament the Texans/McNair has put this org in.

Yet it all comes full circle to the question "why are we getting dissed" .. is Gaines outsmarting himself by offering below market deals? The "rumor/fake news" that McNair won't support "activists" on the team rub the FA crop the wrong way? I was almost positive the team could land a top 5 FA .. and then it all blew up.

The Texans are going to start the season without an experienced LT. That they would've needed to overpay is due to their mismanagement. From an accounting point of view, this may look good. From a football perspective, this sucks. Is the Texans objective to win the battle of the spreadsheets or football games? There's no positive spin for this.

Been saying this for yrs and heavily ridiculed for my position. The McNair's aren't serious about winning. They are serious about the stadium being full every Sunday. Uncle Bob needs his $$$$. Sad thing is IF Watson can't stay healthy and the Texans have done as little as possible to make sure he stays healthy, the Texans are the new Cleveland Browns.

He could have said they needed a replacement

Instead his mouthpiece John Harris said no one in the building was worried about the OL

We can all criticize McNair all we want but anyone that knows the right way to run any business, would want to run a company where you have a malcontent brazenly undermining your authority. Especially a player that is popular and influential with the other players. It may have not been the right thing in a football sense, but business-wise, you have to get rid of the cancer in the building. Duane is entitled to express his opinion, but McNair is entitled to run his company how he pleases.

Solder isn’t worth that much I don’t care how bad we need a LT. All the doom and gloom era need to relax. This was the top offense in football with Watson behind center. The same OL that y’all all think needs a complete overhaul. And yes it needs upgrades but it’s not the end of the world. The right QB and play calling can mask a lot of deficiencies on the OL.

Until Watson gets hurt AGAIN behind this OL.

Mathieu can't stay healthy. High impact low health Safety's don't last long in this league. What a talent when he's healthy...sadly he never is.

That's all fair.

My problem is OB thought the OL would be fine.

We heard that endlessly out of camp.

This I agree with and I'm McNair's biggest critic.

What I'm really concerned about now is SteelB because he had atleast 3 guys (Solder & Norcross & Sutton) penciled in his DC as starting for the Texans in the OLine in September.
I hope whoever resides with him is keeping a close watch, and has removed all sharp objects from the home.

No need for this.

I've learned to LOL at the Texans org and what they sell to the fans every yr.

Yes. The two are not mutually exclusive. I wanted Solder as 1st choice too. But everything else in the world aside, Davenport should show significant improvement in his 2nd season. That's the norm in the NFL.

Except Davenport isn't more than a swing OT. Unless he's had a transformative offseason, which I doubt happened.

Biggest mistake they could make. Better yet trade him NOW get draft choices and then go steal a couple of those free agents when it opens
