Texas Jake well said, you are spot on.I made a comment during preseason that whoever BOB starts, whether it is Savage or Watson, he needs to commit to them and stay with him. This pulling the starter after two quarters is ridiculous. It wasn't Savage's performance that let the team down. It was the o-line, the receivers, and most of all the coaching staff and front office. Tom is just the scape goat for their lack of foresight. How can you go into a season with this sorry excuse for an o-line? They have had no sense of urgency to fix this crap for the last several years and it has been an obvious problem. Instead of pulling the QB, they should have made adjustments on offense to beat the blitz and force the defense to back off. I thought Bill learned from the Hoyer fiasco and had admitted it was a mistake to pull him in that first game of 2015. He was so penitent after realizing his blunder that he refused to replace Hoyer in the KC play-off game even while Hoyer is massively imploding right in front of him. What happened, now. I guess BOB has amnesia because now he is saying he doesn't remember admitting pulling Hoyer in game 1 was a mistake.
I hate going through another regime change, but I am at the point, like most of you are already, to see a major organizational shake-up. But if BOB goes, so should/must Rick. It has got to be a clean sweep. I believe if this season goes south, BOB will be looking for a job. With the sorry state of the o-line, which points back to Rick's failure and is the core problem for this team, maybe McNair finally cuts ties with Ricky - we can only hope.

Who knows, maybe BOB will rotate QB's every game (or half).I am going to go on the record that at some point Savage will be starting over Watson. Not because of anything else but that is the kind of thing to expect.
I should have added the qualifier "Under OB" .....

Has this been posted yet? Wow La Canfora gives it to O'Brien and I have to agree with him.
Anyone else think that the second half call of switching QB's might have come from McNair via RS? One whole half of football playing behind one of the worst OL's assembled determined Savage's final season with the Texans? Wow! Just wow! Look forward to seeing where Savage lands after this...maybe he'll get lucky and the Patriots would pick him up if RS just releases him and re-signs Weeden.

Deshaun Watson will be Texans' 9th different starting QB tonight since 2014, more than the Browns and the most in the NFL in that span.
Texans QB Tom Savage's agent sounds off on benching

I mentioned before, I also don't understand the benching issue. If it were solely a protection issue, I'd think they'd have exhausted all max protect options, which I don't recall seeing.
As was posted earlier, concerning us being able to tell what's actually going on, this may be a situation where O'Brien simple wasn't satisfied with the decisions Tom was making. The QB does have a lot of control & responsibilities at the line & a lot of the way things play out may be due to poor calls, poor recognition, & poor adjustments made before the snap.
I'm not saying this is the case. We definitely didn't see anything improve in those areas after half time, at least I don't think so (I don't have the ability to rewatch the games just yet).
But benching Savage just didn't make sense to me.
Just face it, dude doesn't know how to coach the offense and he's not the QB whisperer/ guru we KNOW he NEVER was.

But Thornson (however her name is spelled) would. If I was Brandon Weeden I wouldn't answer the phone when the Texans call when either Watson or Savage gets injured.
Nah, the line was simply whipped.I mentioned before, I also don't understand the benching issue. If it were solely a protection issue, I'd think they'd have exhausted all max protect options, which I don't recall seeing.

Which do you prefer, paper or paper mache?Nah, the line was simply whipped.
And O' Brien didn't start calling screens and such to counter the Jags' agression.
I had to scratch my head.
At one point, they replaced Lamm with Clark, and the guy got beat repeatedly like a worn out drum.
Think positive. It's game day.Which do you prefer, paper or paper mache?

What does this move say to any QB that plays for OB? It tells them they are on a very short leash and one mistake (or possibly even less) can get them pulled. Tell me how this is conducive to a QB having any kind of confidence. How can he have any chance when he is constantly looking over his shoulder at who will replace him and never knowing when it will happen.
Really makes you wonder how Andy Dalton has survived 8 quarters of football in Cincy this season without visiting the bench.![]()
His coach is not named Bill O'BrienReally makes you wonder how Andy Dalton has survived 8 quarters of football in Cincy this season without visiting the bench.![]()
You would think a QB Guru would know better than that.Bill O'Brien is the only NFL head coach who holds a short leash on his quarterbacks.
Dalton has a $96 million contract. Dalton's backup is not a 1st round pick.Really makes you wonder how Andy Dalton has survived 8 quarters of football in Cincy this season without visiting the bench.![]()

I'm certain this is a make or break season for Dalton. His dead money is only about $2.5 million in 2018. I don't think they believe in McCarron, so put the Bengals on the list of teams looking at QB in the 2018 draft.Texans realized their 72M dollar mistake and got out of it...albeit, at a tremendous cost. Cincy might have to go down the same path at some point or Coach can share notes with O'Brien in the unemployment line.
Interesting.https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...texans-have-rebuffed-suitors-in-the-past/amp/
I think they have lost their opportuniy to trade Savage. At this point, I don't see them making a trade during the season with a rookie starting who may get injured behind this o-line and I don' t see Tom resigning with them. I think there are QB desperate teams who will give him a shot starting and l believe he knows he won't get that shot here.

Very much so.Interesting.
I think Dalton will be snatched up pretty quickly. Especially if Kizer falls off in Cleveland. Dude can play, he's proven that. Most team's will attribute his decline as something related to the departure of Hugh Jackson & believe they can fix it.
If it turns out to be medically related, they won't realize it for years.
My take is that Savage and company feel that there is a good chance that he sees the field again after the OL gets Watson killed.Interesting.
I completely agree with this. Pretty typical OB to blame is starting QB to cover up deficiencies with the OL and his own play calling deficiencies. My take is that Savage and company feel that there is a good chance that he sees the field again after the OL gets Watson killed.
A new record?Obrien has shown a quick hook before, but it wouldn't be far fetched to think the call to put Watson in came from upstairs. It really doesn't matter because whomever made the decision no one will ever admit it was them who made the decision.
Reality hat is own!!! RS, McNair and O'Brien have convinced themselves that Watson gives the team the best chance at winning. Savage will not see the field again as the Texans QB1. Even if Watson were to get injured and Savage handles the opportunity...he's not going to be in the plans to start, he would go back to being QB2 the moment Watson is healthy enough to return. Anyhow, Savage is going to walk next season and find a team who will give him a legitimate chance at starting. So, with this reality in mind....
The Texans need to trade Savage this season while he could possibly return them something versus nothing. Weeden is readily available to carry the QB2 torch for the Texans for the rest of 2017. Remember, the Texans are missing some picks in 2018 and could use as many as possible to try and make up for RS's massive blunder. I think there could be a very real chance that Savage could return a pick as good as a RD3 or at worse a RD5 b/c most teams would realize they would be hard pressed to get a potential QB in RD3 - RD5 that would be ready to play or compete right away.
Trading DB and Savage now could help undo RS's $crew-ups from last season.

I have wanted Savage to succeed as much as the next guy, but what teams out there are going to look at his four years here in Houston and say that this is a guy they want to have competing for QB1 on their team? What stats/accomplishments will they base their assessment on? Will teams have an interest in him as a backup? Sure. But as a starter? That they are willing to give up any picks for, much less something above the 6th or 7th round? I'm just not seeing it. IMHO.
