Game 1...And It Starts...Jacksonville Jaguars!

JamTex

Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday, September 10th at 12 pm, The Texans will take on the Jaguars at home in Houston at NRG Stadium. The game will be aired locally on CBS 11.
Blake Bortles will be the starting quarterback for the Jaguars and Tom Savage will be the starting quaterback for the Texans. I'll take Tom over Blake any day.
On paper, the Jaguars defense looks improved with players like Malik Jackson, Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack and AJ Bouye, but compare that to JJ Watt, JD Clowney, Whit Mercilus, Andre Hal, Kevin Johnson and Benardrick McKinney. I'm affraid the Defense of the Jaguars doesn't stack up against the vaunting defense of the Texans.
The offenses are equally mismatched. The Jaguars have some good running backs in Fournette, Ivory and Yeldon, But the Texans counter that with Miller, Foreman and Blue. The wide receivers are the biggest difference. The Texans have D Hop, Ellington and B Miller slated to start. I think that sounds allot better then the Jaguars starters of Robinson and Lee. Blake is at a big disadvantage. And even without Brown, The Texans offensive line should be heads above better then the Jaguars at opening up the running game and protecting the passer.
All in all, The Jaguars just don't measure up to the Texans. Even our weak special teams are better.
The first prediction of the year.
Texans 35
Jaguars 10

GO TEXANS!!!

Then they didn't trade home/away with the Jags? I think Jax wins this game 17-10. Anybody who thinks we're going to blow them out is just whistling Dixie.

Ever wonder why you have 660 more posts then I have, yet I have 240 more likes then you have?
The negative vibes just don't go well.
So explain how a far out matched team is going to win here in Houston? Especially since the whole Texans team will be playing with the huge chip of Harvey on their shoulders and wanting to provide this city with something positive to look forward to.
Even with the disaster in our city, this Texans team is by far better then the Jaguars. And this team will not underestimate those Jaguars. But really? You pick a Blake Bortles led Jaguar Team to beat these Texans?
You seriously need to justify that. Show some proof that those pitiful Jaguars can beat these Texans. Go for it.

Dang Jam, don't be putting the jinx on them already...
I don't think a jinx will affect these Texans. BOB has them ready and Harvey brought out their heart. D Hop got one heck of a contract. Just watch. He'll ball out. This team wants to make Houston proud and help Texas heal.
Let's just enjoy the season. Win or lose, we get to watch Texans football. This team will lose some, but they will win more, including this game. The Titans should be given more respect than this Jaguars team. The Titans could actually be really good and give these Texans a run for their money.

Remember the crazy comments and the ridiculous Osweiler (who should henceforth be known as HWSNBN II ) MVP thread?

Jags have a pretty good defense.. not sure about their DC

Henne has given us trouble at times

Don't get too high or too low.

J/S... It's the Nfl. Any given Sunday

I'm a long time Houston sports fan that has seen so many teams hyped and the more they are hyped the more they disappoint. Don't call that on us too soon. See BOP on the Astros this season

Yeah , us old timers are accustomed to being let down .... 35-3 and freakin lose ?!

BOP - that dude is the worlds biggest homer .... and any time a big name gets mentioned he's all over it.

Thing is, Henne won't be starting. Bortles will be. Doesn't that change things? Bortles will give in to the pressure the Texans front 7 will put on him. He will throw interceptions and fumble the ball. I smell at least 2 if not 3 or more turn overs. The Texans will win this one.

I'm predicting that Henne plays the majority of that game

either due to injury or ineptness

If Henne plays, he'll face the onslaught from JJ, JD and the rest of the front 7. He's just as much a turn over machine as Bortles is when under duress. Henne hasn't faced, much less victimized this defense before. It's a very different Texans team. Lets just watch and see what happens. Even still, the Texans will win.

Hope your right... j/s over the top in either direction is over the top. It's the NFL

Jamtex, I admire your optimism but the Jags have a better WR corps as it stands right now.
Ok. What good is a good wide receiver group if the quarterback can't get the ball to them? The o-line of the Jags is worse then the Texans. Plus, they'll have to stop JJ, JD, Merci and the rest of the Texans front 7. To me, it spells allot of turn overs by the Jags. Sorry Bortles or Henne. Y'all guys are going get beat up.

could also be argued that they have a better secondary also

Indeed. But the Texans' front seven advantage makes up for it of course.

Texans roll to 1-0 obviously but a little bit of realism about your opponent never hurt anybody...

That's true. Just saying the WR group is the weakest part of the team right now but the Jags boast a very solid group of WRs.

Do the Jaguars have anyone the quality of Hopkins? Ellington has proven to be very solid. Fido is better then any of their tight ends and Miller or even Foreman can catch out of the back field. Seems to me, the Texans receiver corps is petty solid. I'd even say better then the Jags. I'll admit, their running backs are better then the Texans, but consider. The Texans have the better QB position, the better o-line, the better wide receivers and by far, the better defense in every since. The Jags have better corners but other then that, nothing. The Texans should win this game.

I would like to see a strong win with our LT and LG playing well to encourage Brown to come on in plus give Su'a-Filo some confidence. Good play on the left would give our pass blocking RB and the QB confidence also.

Ok yeah yeah rah rah whooo!!!

Aside from Hopkins does the WR corps have 20 catches combined?! They are not a better WR corps than the Jags. Allen Robinson is a stud as well plagued by a poor QB situation similar to Hopkins. Allen Hurns is a 1000 yard receiver. Marquise Lee is a solid 3rd option and Dede Westbrook is a very talented rookie. Their WRs > Texans WRs. That's all i'm saying. Not saying the Jags will win. Just saying you need to be realistic.

Reminds me of last season opening day when you claimed Will Fuller and Braxton Miller were better than Alshon Jeffery ;)

Well, lol. Yea. You got me there, but those great wide receivers can't terrorize a secondary if the quarterback can't get them the ball. That's all I'm sayin.

Not to mention Hopkins being covered by Ramsey. That's going to be a battle. So that leaves us with Braxton Miller (if healthy) and Bruce Ellington. That's it. A combined 34 career catches between them. That's our WRs for this game.

Ellington, who hasn't played a down since 2015, Miller, a QB turned WR and a 3rd string RB or 2 are your receivers for this game.

The Titans are getting more respect, they are picked by many to win the Division and make some serious noise in the playoff. The Jaguars have a top 10 defense and you know our offense is down there with the bottom dwellers. Therefore, this game can go either way for us. But like you I am a homer, so my prediction is Texans 13 Jaguars 9.

Ellington will have to prove his worth during the actual season, so let's not put him in the solid category just yet.

Will Miller play in this game? I thought he was hurt.

I think the Texans lose this one.

Their saving grace might be bortles though. I think if he's average or not the suck the jags have a good chance.

I just don't trust the Oline and I don't think Savage has the skill set to overcome bad Oline play.

I'm also not convinced OB will use his running backs in the most optimal way.

24-17 Kitties.

I have no idea what to expect from the offense. I do expect the defense to keep the jaggies offense in check, maybe not enough to win the game, but I don't think Bortles and their offense will do to much damage. Unless our offense suddenly and miraculously manages to look like an NFL offense, I expect a low scoring game of which either side could win with a FG.

I hate the whole HWSNBN Bullshit. Carr and Os should be remembered if for no other reason than so that we never forget that mistakes were made.

What a dumb a$$ thread this has devolved in to. It's either doom and gloom or rainbows and unicorns.
My biggest fear is that the Texans are too busy dealing with the Harvey aftermath and they don't have their minds in the right place on game day.

What concerns me the most is all the injuries we have going into game one with the health of so many key players suspect. I hope that Savage can continue to be as efficient as he was during preseason and stay healthy. If he can, this offense could finally come to life if we can keep the other 10 players on the field.

Is your biggest fear doom and gloom?
Or you meant to say that it shouldn't happen?
:chickendance:

The Texans under Bill O'Brien have never lost to the Jaguars. 6-0. That's with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Kennum, Brian Hoyer, and Brock Osweiler as starting QBs. Why would this end with Tom Savage? O'Brien makes it 7-0 versus the Jags.

Edit: Vegas agrees with me. Texans -5.

Don't know that the "battle" will be as ferocious as it has been in the past. Ramsey limped his way through early OTAs, then mid June underwent core muscle surgery ("sports hernia"). He did not get back to practice Mid August, played 10 snaps August 24 against the Panthers, and subsequently has had to receive "treatments" to the present while missing practices for the next few days. I do not believe he has participated in any contact practices since the Panthers game.

Like the Astros, I believe the Texans will have the extra juice and incentive to give the City of Houston a big win. Our defense will have to lead the way, but Savage may surprise if OB develops a game plan that accounts for a below average OL and no WR depth. I'm hoping Ellington and TEs have the game of their lives, because Ramsey is going to be all over Hop. I'll say it's a 20-10 win for us. Here's hoping OL can step up.

This is probably the only game of our first six we'll be favorites. We better win this one, or it's going to be a long six weeks.

Not saying it would but we never faced them with all these freaking injuries to key offensive players either.

I predict us to win this game by 3 but I wouldn't be surprised if we lost.

They will put Bouye on him if Ramsay is not up for the task.

All I have to say is EAT Hopkins. He will have a monster game.

It's football season again. So tk will make me do a lot of this again (WTF???).

Week 1 vs JAX - Texans favored
Week 2 @ Cincy - Bengals favored
Week 3 @ NE - Pats favored
Week 4 vs TEN - Texans favored
Week 5 @ KC - Chiefs favored
Week 6 vs CLE - Texans favored

I never know what to think when the Texans play a game with a little something extra attached to it. They lost a very winnable game versus Oakland a couple days after Al Davis died. They lost to the Chiefs 2 days after Bum died. They lost 3 out of 4 of their last games of 2012 which took them out of home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Now they have the city of Houston backing them up. A lot of people throughout the nation will be paying attention to see how the Texans react on the field. Will they rise to the occasion or crumble under the pressure?

Has the NFL come out and state that the game will definitely be played in Houston?
