Game 1...And It Starts...Jacksonville Jaguars!

I really don't know what to expect ....

The offense despite the QB issue being "resolved" at least temporarily is still a hot mess , with that OL Savage is playing Russian Roulette on every snap , aside from Hopkins the receivers are questionable at best (despite my liking what Ellington was able to do in the preseason). and really , despite looking the part in preseason, Savage himself is still a BIG questionmark.

On defense - I am concerned about Watt and the secondary as well as MLB in coverage situations (Cunningham got exposed a number of times) the safety spots are still a concern too ....

Lot of things to look at in the first live fire of the season ....

It's football season again. So tk will make me do a lot of this again (WTF???).

Week 1 vs JAX - Texans favored
Week 2 @ Cincy - Bengals favored
Week 3 @ NE - Pats favored
Week 4 vs TEN - Texans favored
Week 5 @ KC - Chiefs favored
Week 6 vs CLE - Texans favored

At this point most all the home teams should be favored

Boortles./Marrone/Hackett combo doesn't scare me at all

NRG will be crazy

I'm really not worried or concerned about winning the game, I'm more concerned about the health and the coaching. Tired of waiting. O'Brien needs to show the fans and other teams something new right away and that's what I want to see.

Surprise me in a good way

Good point. Seemed like the media had BoB pegged as a hot commodity if he were to leave Houston this off season based on what we've done w/ crap at qb. Before I buy in on him, I want to see that he can game plan around our known offensive weakness' and have at least an average offense this year. I'll take winning ugly, but hoping we don't have to go there again.

If O'Brien leaves and is a hot commodity I don't care. If he cannot do better than I've seen well adios, bye bye, see ya later ..whatever. I don't spend much time crunching once a player or coach leaves Houston or when we don't get a draft pick or FA I want.

Ever wonder why you have 660 more posts then I have, yet I have 240 more likes then you have?
You don't win any popularity contests when you tell it like it is.
The negative vibes just don't go well.
The Texans lose about as many games as they win, so picking them to lose some of the time is hardly being a negative Nancy.
So explain how a far out matched team is going to win here in Houston? Especially since the whole Texans team will be playing with the huge chip of Harvey on their shoulders and wanting to provide this city with something positive to look forward to.
There is no reason to think the Harvey disaster will fire up the team. If anything it may be a demoralizing factor.
Even with the disaster in our city, this Texans team is by far better then the Jaguars. And this team will not underestimate those Jaguars.
We all know pride goeth before a fall. The overconfidence makes me very nervous, as it usually presages a loss.
But really? You pick a Blake Bortles led Jaguar Team to beat these Texans?
You seriously need to justify that. Show some proof that those pitiful Jaguars can beat these Texans. Go for it.
The outcome of the game can be the justification. The Texans under BOB have always been disorganized early in the season. But if the Jaguars win I won't rub it in.

I can't see anyone hiring him as an OC. And certainly won't be given control of personnel. So as a HC without GM duties maybe? But why?

Who will be inactive this week?

Sounds like Alfred Blue is a given. Probably Kyle Fuller and either Lamm or Clark. The new WR Jones (?) we picked up from Dallas. Brandon Dunn and Kurtis Drummond.

Should be 6 right?

oh..I think he will be signed by someone almost immediately; too many teams have much worse coaches and records.

Who will he bring as his defensive staff? Crennel will probably hang it up if we don't retain him. I wouldn't be surprised if the Texans replace O'Brien with Vrabel.

If Billy O'Brien leaves because our offense sux, he'll be an offensive coordinator who can't coach an NFL offense without Brady & without a strong defense, I don't see too many NFL teams knocking on his door.

Maybe he'll get a sweet college job, but it won't be a Michigan, or UCLA, or even a Marshall. Maybe a Georgia Tech. Or something like that.

That's not to say I want him gone. I'd be thrilled if he can coach this team to the Super Bowl. Like I said before, I think eventually he could be a great HC. He's a good HC now, & now he's playing OC...

You realize having a crap OL makes it impossible to have even an avg offense? There's very little a HC can do to gameplan around a crap OL.

Yes, it's hard to have a good offense, but not impossible to have a successful team.

The Broncos was able to win a SB just a couple of years ago with a horrendous OL. Seahawks had a bad OL when they made it to the SB against the Pats.

A rare thing indeed.

So you're giving BoB a pass this season because of our OL? If there's no improvement on the offensive side of the ball, I'm putting it on BoB and not our OL. Even if our OL looks like they did against the Saints all year we can be a much better offense than last year. 1 simple thing -- get your qb in sync with your hot read and we're already much improved.

You really think there are folks going 'meh, I wouldn't otherwise watch the Texans but I want to see how they react to a hurricane? '

I think there will be people that will pay attention that otherwise wouldn't. JJ Watt has garnered a lot of attention on the top sports networks (and many news outlets) by his Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. I remember when the Saints were the darlings of the NFL after Katrina. So we've already seen it. Now, they went on to win the Super Bowl. If the Texans lose against the Jags, whoever otherwise wouldn't have paid attention but did, the human interest story of the Texans would end.

I could be wrong. Maybe the Texans are just boring enough nobody cares except us (maybe just me).

It's official! Week 1 Jags game will be played on home turf!

Since a cat 4 blow is headed to Florida this weekend, I guess that makes sense. Of course J-ville probably wouldn't be dealing with it Sunday but you don't need 70,000....I mean 30,000 fans at a football game when Irma will be there in the next day or two.

Interesting to see what the Bucs and Dolphins do this weekend.

Texans' Bill O'Brien said he's not sure whether RB D'Onta Foreman or RB Alfred Blue will play Sunday against the Jaguars: "At this point, I would say that both guys have a chance to play on Sunday, but I won't know that until later in the week."

Sarah Barshop, ESPN Staff Writer

With the type of injuries each has, neither should play this soon.

Well, lol. Yea. You got me there, but those great wide receivers can't terrorize a secondary if the quarterback can't get them the ball. That's all I'm sayin.

Because Tom Brady errr I mean Tom Savage has clearly proven to be far superior to Bortles/Henne.

Umm ya. Do you take your koolaid in extra large economy size?

Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles loses team captaincy

The Jaguars announced five team captains on Monday and their starting quarterback was not one of them.

Blake Bortles, who had been a team captain each of the last two seasons, lost his captaincy with the team. The Jaguars captains this season will be tight end Marcedes Lewis, center Brandon Linder, linebackers Paul Posluszny and Telvin Smith, and wide receiver Arrelious Benn.

Team captains are selected through a team vote and Bortles' omission may say a lot about what his teammates think of his ability to lead the club. Bortles will be Jacksonville's Week 1 starter against the Texans, but will likely have a short leash this season.

How long we going to wait for Lestar Jean... I mean Devier Posey... uh, Braxton Miller to contribute when it counts?
I'm afraid he is most likely to have promising short runs interrupted by injuries. Another shoulder injury may very well necessitate surgery, totally knock him out...........after his 2 labral shoulder surgeries in college........and then a 3rd significant shoulder injury to put his 2016 season to end.

I would keep many of our injured who could play on bench until we lose control of game if that occurs. If we can win without them, it gives more healing time and builds confidence of those playing. I also would reduce snaps of those like Watt, Hopkins & Foreman. We should win this game unless we just have too many turnovers.

Savage got 260 yds against the jags last time he played them in 2 1/2 qtrs.

I say he goes for 300 and 2 tds.

Defense will be so good Henne will play.

Is it Sunday yet?

I think it will be one of those Texans pretty much had control of the whole game, but final score will make the game look closer than it actually was. Texans 17-10.

Bucs-Dolphins game likely to be rescheduled for Week 11 (Nov. 19), when both teams have a bye, per @JeffDarlington. Not final but likely.

1:39 PM - 5 Sep 2017
Now that would suck for both of those teams..............no bye in the second half of the season when half their players are likely to choose a convalescent home over a football field!:toropalm:

Not sure what has given anyone reason to think that the Houston Texans can beat anyone by 7 points or more.

This will likely be a grotesque, sloppy game. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends 13-10 or something.
Texans will return first kick off to them for TD and not score again. Our defense shuts out Kitties. So it will be close games but we do win by seven. I will not go out on limb to say it will or will not be sloppy. I don't want to appear silly.

Bucs-Dolphins game has officially been moved to Week 11. They will now be playing 16 straight games................:toropalm::crutch::crutch::crutch::crutch:

That terrible. The NFL shouldn't allow it to happen. I don't have a solution, but 16 straight games with no break? The modern NFL is just to rough on players bodies to allow that kind of thing to happen.

Shame on the NFL.

Only thing I can think of is maybe play the game at a neutral site, and that's not appealing either

Or just not play the game, give the two teams a tied score, and be done with it. I don't like the thought of players with that long of a haul without a break. Which is also why I don't like their "extended regular" season by dropping one or two of the pre-season games. With the richness of NFL owners they should be allowed to carry more cheap NFL minimum paid players and rookies on the active roster anyway.

Then again, it's part of my strange mental process that dislikes the NFL in general but loves the Texans.

I'm still not fired up and excited about Week 1 of the 2017 Houston Texans season yet. Maybe by gameday I will be. I've always been super excited going into every season ever since the expansion season in 2002, but this is the first time I don't really feel anything.

Maybe all of those disappointing losing seasons and decent 9-7 and 8-8 years, or the 0-3 divisional round playoff record, finally caught up to me. All those dreams I had of seeing the Houston Texans win a Super Bowl for the past 15 years were just that, dreams...

I have hope for the Deshaun Watson era once it starts.

If i was the players I would agree to either play this week anywhere, even a highschool field or not play in the week 11 game.
