The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

In the real draft there is a 0.0% chance that only 1 QB is taken by this point IMO.

I don't even think the 49ers at pick #2 pass on a QB. Browns definitely drafting a QB with 1 of those picks. Then you got Jets, Bills, Cardinals...

Man... no chance.

That all said, I'd LOVE it if it shook out this way. Giants have to take OJ Howard right? Then the Raiders won't draft a QB and that means that Texans probably get the QB I wanted all along. Can't wait for us to have the classic trenches vs QB fight again in 3 picks.

I'd be very surprised if SF took a QB #2. I actually think this scenario is much more likely than a huge run on QB's earlier in the round. This class is talented but flawed and there are elite prospects at other positions available early.

The issue here is that we don't do trades in the mock. I think you will see teams like SF or CHI trade back into the 1st round to take a QB and get that 5th year option instead of sitting pat in the early 30's.

I agree that at least 2 QBs will be gone by this point. There's no trading here, but there will be some jockeying in the real draft. That partially explains why we are where we are in this mock with respect to QBs.

I think without trades the run doesn't make sense, but when considering teams moving up from the 2nd and/or dropping back from the top it becomes more probable

  1. OJ Howard TE 6-6, 250 Alabama
  2. Marlon Humphrey CB 6-1, 200 Alabama
  3. Zach Cunningham LB 6-4, 234 Vanderbilt
  4. David Njoku TE 6-4, 245 Miami
  5. Haason Reddick OLB 6-2, 237 Temple
  6. Malik McDowell DT 6-5, 285 Michigan State
These are the top guys left IMO. This QB class outside of trubisky is just too weak to waste a first on with so much talent everywhere else.

Surely LT ramz is going to be the pick for the Giants. Erik Flowers needs to be replaced or Eli's career will be cut short.

For Giants I'm thinking either Ramczyk or Howard. I lean toward Ram because OT is a very pressing need for them and TE is loaded this year.

You guys know that you can always PM your picks to other members right? You don't have to be online during your time on the clock for your pick to count.

And if you don't PM something to somebody you run the risk of the mob making your pick if you don't make it back in time.

Trubisky went to the Browna @ 12.

If the draft falls this way I pick Mahomes and trade back into the 1st rd for Ramczyk.

Ramczyk would be the pick if I was the Giants GM. Love Howard but this is a deep TE class/Shallow OT class and the talent level between the 2 players is comparable. The biggest need for the Giants is OT. IMHO

Rigged. Three OT's off the board and only one QB taken. I see a battle for some team to trade ahead of Texans to draft one (in real world) if this were to happen, lol.

Raiders have shot @ Howard? Bad news for rest of league.

Yeah I was just about to post that. He hasn't logged on since the sign-up thread 2 weeks ago.

I suggest we start discussing a pick now so by the end of his clock (if he hasn't shown) we will already have a consensus and can move straight to the Texans pick.

Cunningham, Humphrey, McDowell or BPA Howard, might even consider Melifonwu. Raiders almost have a full compliment of options to choose, in the real world they most certainly would move down if they like 3 or 4 of these guys and pick up an extra 3rd or 4th.

Let's start the debate is Mahomes or Watson, or shun the Qb's and look at whoever is not taken out of Humphrey, Howard, or Cunningham.

In order..

Patrick Mahomes over Watson I agree
OJ Howard - definately best graded player on the board
Zach Cunningham - good player fills a need, but not as pressing as others.
Forrest Lamp - love the guy, but not over some of these D players and Qb's because he's not really a tackle.

IMO, top 3 needs for Raiders are DT, LB, and CB.

At DT they could go with Malik McDowell or Caleb Brantley
At LB they could go with Zach Cunningham or Jarrad Davis
At CB they could go with Marlon Humphery or Gareon Conley
Or they could go BPA and take Howard and give their young QB another weapon

My vote is for Cunningham. They have one of the worst LB groups in the league and he's an instant impact player. I actually have him graded higher than Foster.

I'd say OJ Howard (TE need) or Malik McDowell (DT need) for Oakland...Las Vegas...Raiders.

*With the Jared Cook signing, McDowell would be my pick

From Silver and Black Pride

"
Middle Linebacker
When a free agent just signed by the team instantly becomes the starting middle linebacker, there is a problem. Perry Riley has proven to be a nice signing, but he is also 28 years old and does not provide a long-term solution to the Raiders hole at the position. Malcom Smith's struggles have continued in 2016 and he is playing in the final year of his contract. Cory Jamesand Ben Heeney haven't shown enough for the coaches to confidently play them in the starting rotation.

Middle linebacker is one of, if not the most important position on the defense and the Raiders haven't had a quality one since Kirk Morrison. Adding an impact player that can quarterback the defense would substantially improve the communication issues the Silver and Black have faced.

Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster is the unquestioned leader at the position in the 2017 NFL Draft but it is highly unlikely he will be available when the Raiders are projected to pick at the end of the first round. Zach Cunningham from Vanderbilt is an extremely instinctive play that could be an option. The two other players that should be in consideration are Florida's Jarrad Davis and Ohio State's Raekwon McMillan as both resemble the playing style of Patriot's linebacker Dont'a Hightower."

Defensive Tackle
The Raiders run defense has been atrocious thus far, and one of the main reasons is because the play of the defensive tackles is severely lacking. Dan Williams and Justin Ellis were both brought in to stop the run, yet the Raiders best player at the position this season has been Stacy McGee. It is pathetic when both Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin draw extra attention, and yet the interior defensive line still cannot make plays.

Yes, Jihad Ward is improving and Mario Edwards returns week 9, but this team could really benefit from a true playmaking defensive tackle.

Remember when Raider fans were praying for the team to draft Star Lotulelei? The team now has a chance to pick his younger brother Lowell who is widely considered the best defensive tackle that would be available when the Raiders select. Lotulei is both incredibly strong yet surprisingly fast which helps him impact both the run and pass game.

Mahomes over Watson, Howard or Humphrey are intriguing and probably safer picks, but who isnt tired of being a team without a QB?

Patrick Mahomes - the potential is just too intriguing to pass up, imo, and we're all sick and effing tired of wondering around in the dark at QB
OJ Howard - BPA at a position of legit interest
Forrest Lamp - Versatile plug and play to immediately help a vital unit in need

All that said, I strenuously vote Mahomes.

SAY NO TO MAHOMES!!

Watson is a winner. I don't care about Blue Chip prospect argument blah blah blah, dude wins games. When the game is on the line he throws the game winning TD.

Mahomes throws a 3 yard pass when running a 5 WR set when they need 10 yards for a first down.

The stats on paper look amazing, I can't argue, but they don't translate to wins.

Would any team Watson QB'd for have lost to 3 win Iowa State by 50+? No chance.

I saw he can throw 60 yards from his knees, reminds me of Jamarcus Russell.

Give me the winner. Someone else can take the stats.
