Deshaun Watson, The future Texans QB?

I feel just the opposite of you. We need an infusion of talent. Even if he's in the shadows all season i want someone with talent learning this offense. Until we finally lock down a franchise quarterback we should ALWAYS be grooming another qb.

No, that's exactly how I feel. I'm saying the third string QB is not learning the offense which is why Savage & Weeden have to go. Our drafted rookie would be 2nd string learning everything like the starter.

We'll pick up some UDFA to run the scout team.

The Texans should start Weeden; cut either Osweiler or Savage; and draft Mitch Trubisky. As is evidenced by this video, Trubisky is much more of an NFL QB that Deshaun Watson.

Looks like one deep safety would ruin his game

I totally agree with this reasoning, if we draft this year.

As infuriating as it is to be patient, the timing is just better if we wait until the 2018 draft. Savage's contract will be up and Oz's will be manageable. It's reported on this forum that the QB draft will be much deeper in 2018.

If we spend the bulk of the team's available cash on resigning our own FA's, we upgrade our OL in the draft with our first three or four picks, then overall we should have a better team next year than this, even with the same, lackluster QB play.

In actuality, we should even see some improvement in our QB's.

All this having been said, it is just smart and the right thing to do to look two years ahead and consider the best course of action for the team to take. Evaluate the QB talent coming into the league over the next two years and let's get it right this next time.

If OB is onboard then go get him. If OB is happy with our QBs heading into next year, let them compete and evaluate another season before making another knee jerk reaction by spending a lot of draft resources. Doesn't matter who our QB is if we don't get some blue chip mistake free offensive lineman. We seem to have an offensive lineman miss a block or commit a penalty every play. I don't care about dominance from the line right now, just get a little consistency.

My fear is McNair decides to trade up and draft a QB that OB is not on board with to keep the fans happy. OB leaves, we get a lesser coach (because what coach would want to come to a dysfunctional QB merry go round similar to Cleveland), with no talent in the trenches and the team goes back to averaging 4 wins a season.

I have about the similar ability to project a college QBs success as anyone else, and that is very, very little. Having said that I would let it ride this year, maybe a middle/late round flyer if there is a guy OB wants. Go into next season with an open competition between Brock and Savage, if the play doesn't improve maybe look at Mason Rudolph in 2018.

The team could use a 1st round, OL starter in the draft. After that, I would like to see Mahomes (Tech QB) drafted in the 2nd or 3rd by the Texans, even if we have to move up in one of those rounds to get him. Mahomes could spend the year behind Oz, Savage or whoever and go in to his second year ready to compete for the starting job. If Oz or Savage keeps him on the bench, so be it. Losing a QB competition and sitting a few years behind Farve does not seem to have hurt Rogers.

Watson said he models himself after Vince Young. No thanks, I'll pass.

He was talking from the point of view of being a kid watching Vince Young as a black QB doing it all in one of the greatest games ever beating a favored powerhouse and just showing Watson that he can do it too. He didn't say he's going to act like Vince off the field or study (or not study) film like Vince.

It was just a passing comment about who's poster was on his wall as a kid that shouldn't be read much into. Especially considering not a word's been said about any poor habits from Watson from a preparation or attitude standpoint.
