Playoffs...Divisional Round...New England Patriots!

JamTex

Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Saturday, Jan 14th at 7:15 pm, The Texans will travel to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots.
The game will be aired on CBS nationally.
Now let's be real. Do the Texans even have a snowflakes chance in hell of winning this game? No.
It isn't impossible, but in the playoffs, the Patriots led by Tom Brady and coached by Bill Belichick, don't lose. Especially at home.
The Texans will have to play even better defense then they have been thus far. The offense will have to hold on to the ball and score on long drives that keep Tom Brady on the side line.
Run the ball, short, high percentage passes that move the chains. Score touchdowns in the red zone. Tackle well on special teams and keep them pinned a long way from the endzone. Those will be the keys to getting a Texans win.
It's a tall order, but it is within the realm of possibility for the Texans to come home with a win and continue their playoff run.
I don't think it'll happen though. I hate to predict a Texans loss and the end of our season, but we have to be realistic here.

Texans 17

This week I'm going to take comfort in the fact that our defense is playoff-caliber. Just hope the O can pull one out......just one time....ONE TIME.. as Sam Rutigliano might say.

I'm looking for silver linings her and all I can come up with is that Vince Wilfork won't have to travel far to get home after his last game as a Texan.

This is going to be an execution. Texans have no chance whatsoever.

It seems the majority of people just want to write this game off as a loss and assume our season is already over.

Well I say we've been following this team all year. There's 8 teams left in this tournament and for all our warts we can still win it all. This team will never be more motivated than they will for this game.

Going against the best team left in the tournament and that 27-0 loss earlier this season fresh in their minds. They'll be reminded all week by the national media that they have no shot. But something tells me they aren't gonna just roll over and let the Pats advance.

This team has overcome so much adversity to get here and showed a level of toughness worthy of a Lombardi trophy. The next step is Saturday night and the Texans will continue their Cinderella season!!!

I think the defense needs to prepare for Bennett and their rb's. I don't think we have a linebacker that can cover Bennett. Mckinney covering Bennett scares me. I kind of hope they put a cb on him on passing plays to try to prevent catches and maybe snag an int because of a rushed throw from Brady. That's my ideal scenario at least. I forgot where I read that NE is #1 in scoring defense this year. But their total time in the field isn't much. We are #1 in total yards allowed, and we are one of the highest defenses in time being out on the field. Hope for a good game and a Texans win!!!

Texans shock the world. Texans 27 Patriots 17

I tend to agree with the above. I am not quite as pessimistic or realistic, which ever the case may be, as the thread starter. I do see a chance for victory. I keep my spirits up by thinking of Super Bowl III. The Jets had no chance in hell, yet..........

We CAN WIN IF...

Clowney knocks Brady out of the game early.

It snows and makes passing useless in which case I like our defense and ground game

God comes to earth and destroys Satan's #1 minion (Bellicheat) and gives us the win by infusing Brock with superhuman abilities.

In all seriousness we can win this game. Defense needs to play lights out; we need to limit mistakes, and we need TDs instead of fgs when we get to the red zone. If those 3 things don't happen it will be a massacre.

I think we need to ask ourselves, "Is our defense enough to put pressure on Tom Brady?" I think they are. That 27-0 loss was when we were counting on Watt being the wrecking ball. Instead, we got wrecked when he left the game. Now we have a defense with an identity outside of Watt. I think the Patriots would be stupid to look past Clowney, Mercilus, McKinney, Bouye and the gang. Who knows, we may have Simon back for that game! Let's go Texans!

If you haven't heard AJ Bouye's interview after the Raiders game give it a listen. Gives you great insight into this team's mindset right now.

He heard a national media guy the day of the game say they had to get Amari Cooper on the Texans corners because he's BETTER than them. Bouye and the rest of the secondary took that personally and shut Cooper down to the tune of 2 catches for 10 yards on 10 targets.

The bulletin board material for the Raiders game is nothing compared to what they'll be getting this week. Everybody is going to tell them that they are going to get slaughtered. But this team will bottle up all that motivation and unleash it on the Pats Saturday!

The biggest recipe for an upset in any sport is two-sided:

1) One team hearing they're gonna get their butts kicked but believing they'll win.

2) One team believing what people that aren't gonna be playing are saying.

I'm hoping the Texans Revenge Game Tour goes on for 3 more weeks. I'm not unrealistic about the Texans chances of winning this week, but since those chances aren't zero, I'm not giving up hope. It will take a perfect game from the Texans to pull of the upset, but stranger things have happened, especially in the NFL.

I want to add the next home game for this team is the super bowl. I think it's been on their mind all season. Just never talked about

What we want and the odds on favorite of what we'll get are very different. At least we're alive for one more week.

What were the odds on the Texans becoming AFC South Champions when JJ Watt was ruled out Brian? Can I call you Brian?

What were the odds on the Texans having the #1 defense in the league despite starting 21 different players on the unit over the course of the season?

The Texans have overcame larger odds this season than a game against the best team in the league.

Belly-check is masterful at making gametime adjustments. I think we'll beat the Patsies in a playoff game—when hell freezes over.

Looks like we'll be going to Foxsboro to kick the Patriots ass 28-0.

Let's get it done fellas.

When a Super Homer like JamTex doesn't think you have a chance, that doesn't bode well.

You type more like an Oscar.

Here's what I want to see: Hit Mr. Wonderful early in the game. 1st series if possible. I'm not saying take out a knee. Just hit the guy and let him know he's in a football game. Take the 15 yard hit if necessary. Will it make a difference? I don't know. I do know that guys like Peyton and Brady get perturbed after getting hit.

From my couch it looks like it would be so easy to beat Brady.

Take away the crossing routes. Don't man up on the inside receivers. Know the are going to cross the field & be ready for them. Do not lead with your helmet. Do not hit them in the head. Blow them the f'ck up if they even look like they think the ball is coming their way.

I'm hoping the Texans play well enough to make this upcoming game with the Patriots entertaining and competitive. Beyond that I leave it to the dreamers.

5 fast facts ahead of Patriots vs. Texans matchup in AFC Divisional Round

The road to the Super Bowl goes through Foxborough and the New England Patriots will be hosting the Houston Texans in the AFC divisional round of the playoffs.

Here are five fast facts ahead of Saturday’s matchup:

1. Texans have faced Patriots this season

The Texans are no strangers to the Patriots as they faced off against each other in the regular season, only Tom Brady wasn’t at quarterback.

Brady was still serving his four-game suspension when the Texans visited Foxborough and backup Jimmy Garappolo had just gone down with a shoulder injury. Third-string quarterback Jacoby Brissett led the offense against the Texans and the Patriots won 27-0.

2. This is the second time they face off in the playoffs

The last time these two teams met in the playoffs was in 2012 in the same round. The Patriots played host to the Texans in the game and went on to win 41-28. Brady threw for 344 yards with three touchdowns.

The Texans quarterback then? Matt Schaub.

3. Brock Osweiler has beaten the Patriots

Brock Osweiler does have a win over the Patriots, only it was with the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos. Osweiler was in for the injured Peyton Manning in 2015 and the Broncos won in thrilling fashion when C.J. Anderson took off for a 48-yard rushing touchdown in overtime.

It was the Patriots' first loss of that season.

4. This will be the Patriots’ 20th AFC Divisional Round game

The Patriots are 13-6 in the divisional round of the playoffs. They have made the divisional round every year with Brady at quarterback, except for 2008 when they were eliminated in the wild card game.

The Patriots have won in their last five appearances in the divisional round.

5. Julian Edelman could break a record

Wide receiver Julian Edelman needs two receptions to move past Wes Welker for most postseason receptions in the franchise’s history.

He has averaged over six receptions per game this season and averages 11 in the postseason, so we could see a record-setting performance in this game.

I know most of y'all think I'm a negative Nancy. I am very happy with the win over the Raiders. Clowney was a beast and our D was amazing. Brock was serviceable and it was nice that we actually scored TDs in the red zone. This team on offense has been very hard to watch but I have to give it up to them for getting to the divisional round of the playoffs. Crappy division and good fortune playing a team without their starting QB aside, it is still an accomplishment to go out and win both the division and the first playoff game. I don't think we have a chance against the Pats but I will be still rooting hard for them to win.

Dan Shaugnessy's jackassness continues. It hurts because what he is saying can't be refuted. It would be so sweet to pull off the historic upset.

Been here. Done this.

The Patriots will finally play their first postseason game Saturday night and wouldn’t you guess . . . they are playing a team with absolutely zero chance to win the game.

Enjoying the spoils of their hard-earned top seed, the 14-2 Patriots will face your friends and mine, the All World Tomato Cans, the Houston Texans.

In a game that could be best described as the NFL’s answer to Mariah Carey’s New Year’s Eve Show, the Texans beat the quarterback-less Oakland Raiders, 27-14, Saturday to advance to the AFC divisional round. New England’s dream matchup with fourth-seeded Houston became official Sunday when Pittsburgh routed the terrible Dolphins.

This could not have worked out better for the Patriots.

The Texans are the Chuck Wepner/Randall “Tex” Cobb/Peter McNeeley of NFL playoff teams. They are Tomato Cans Suis Generis; Tomato Cans Di Tutti, the Houston Warhols.

Prepare for the Pats vs. the Patsies. Jadeveon Clowney’s to the left of us, jokers to the right, the Texans are historically bad and easy for the Patriots to beat. And in keeping with the usual theme of Patriot luck, New England again will play a team that will be without its best player (J.J. Watt, back surgery).

Prefer facts over opinion? Try this: the Texans have never won a game in Foxborough. In their last four games at Gillette, they have lost by an aggregate score of 150-49. That’s right. Pats-Texans in Foxborough produces an average beatdown of 25-plus points. When the matchup was revealed, the Patriots opened as 16-point favorites. In a playoff game.

Remember four years ago? The Texans were 11-1 when they came to Foxborough wearing their lettermen jackets. Andre Johnson announced it was the biggest game in franchise history. Arian Foster changed his Twitter avatar to represent an opinion that disrespected the Texans. In that game, the Patriots jumped to a 28-0 lead (Houston was flagged for an illegal formation on its first play) and led, 35-7, early in the fourth. The final was 42-14. Five weeks later, the Texans returned and lost a totally noncompetitive (41-28) divisional playoff game at Gillette.

Fast forward to last September when the Patriots — playing without Tom Brady — trumped the Texans, 27-0. That was the night third-stringer Jacoby Brissett started at quarterback.

The Texans feature a historically bad offense. Houston scored only 25 offensive touchdowns this year, which is a record low for a playoff team in a 16-game season. They averaged 17.4 points per game, which ranked 28th in the NFL. Houston’s starting quarterback, Brock Osweiler, the $72 million man, was benched in December for compiling the league’s second-lowest quarterback rating (thank God for Ryan Fitzpatrick). Osweiler got his job back only because the immortal Tom Savage suffered a concussion. Like Drew Bledsoe, Osweiler is tall and has a good arm.

The Texans love shutouts more than Nolan Ryan. Last year they were bounced from the playoffs in a 30-0 wild-card whitewash against Kansas City. Houston coach Bill O’Brien has used eight quarterbacks since 2014. With its popgun offense, Houston is the only NFL team that didn’t score in the final two minutes of the first half of a regular-season game this season.

Houston’s defense looked formidable Saturday, but the Texans were playing against a kid quarterback who was making his first NFL start. Something tells me that Bill Belichick and Tom Brady will do better than Jack Del Rio and Connor Cook.

This easy cheesy matchup is not the Patriots’ fault, but it promises to be a playoff bore much like the first three games of wild-card weekend. Pats-Texans could be a threat to the Bears’ 73-0 NFL championship game victory over the Redskins in 1940. Doubt we’ll see Roger Goodell in the Kraft box.

Houston’s staff and roster feature a lot of former Patriots and a respectful Belichick will spend the week trying to convince us that the Texans are the equal of the 1985 Bears. We’re going to be reading stories about Houston coach O’Brien’s Dorchester roots and his days at St. John’s Prep and Brown. Who could forget the time O’Brien (then Pats QB coach) and Brady got into a shouting match on the Patriot sideline after Tom threw a pick against the Redskins? We’ll read about Mike Vrabel (Houston linebackers coach), George Godsey (offensive coordinator), defensive lineman Vince Wilfork, and their good days in Foxborough. Houston’s defensive coordinator, Romeo Crennel, won a bunch of rings with Belichick.

But this is going to be a noncompetitive beatdown of the highest order.

When Belichick tries to convince us otherwise and says, “We’re on to Houston,’’ I’ll be thinking about the Super Bowl at NRG Stadium Feb. 5, not the cream puffs who are coming to Gillette this weekend.

I really don't care if we win, I just don't want to be embarrassed again. Keep it close, make it interesting, show some pride.

I have a crazy idea... Change qbs every 2 possessions. Each QB we have has a completely different style and NE won't be gameplanning for all 3 QBs. This is the only way I see us scoring over 21 points.

In reality I just want to know what OB will do if we are down by 28 points at halftime... Does he pull Brock again? Or does he leave him in to burn which finally ends Brock's career in the NFL. I guess we will have to tune in to find out!

When BoB had our team go to Foxborough earlier this year and roll up into a ball, scared of Belichick's shadow -- I almost punched a hole in my tv. If he doesn't have our team ready to punch these assholes in the mouth on Saturday I'm afraid I might break something. If we play our hearts out and lose -- I can live with that. But don't bring your ass up there scared this time Billy.

Let me check this before I type........Yea, we just beat a 12-4 team. Don't give me anything like their "First or Second String QB was not playing". And just what makes you think that the Pats "First string QB will be playing?" I know guys in Boston.............:)

A commenter to the column I just posted said this. Gave me a little more hope for Saturday:

Danny, six years ago, the 14-2 Patriots took the field at the Big Razor in the AFC Divisional game against the J-E-T-S Jets, the "tomato cans" who were destroyed 45-3 the last time they saw Foxborough. Our boys lost, 28-20 and were never in it. The immortal Mark Sanchez found ways to make drive-extending first downs in the fourth quarter after the Patriots made it a one-score game. That year (2010) Tom Brady had 36 TD's vs. 4 picks, a great regular season eerily similar to this year's 28-2. I see some rather uncomfortable similarities brewing for next Saturday. The 2010 game was on a Sunday; let's hope that history doesn't repeat itself. Yeah, the Texans suck, but so did the J-E-T-S Jets then. As Chris Berman said after the Patriots lost their perfect season nine years ago, "that's why they play the games." That said, I'll predict Patriots 38, Texans 13.

I have a feeling our guys are ready for the revenge trip of a lifetime to get to the Superbowl. We just beat the Raiders who beat us earlier this year. Next up is the Patriots who beat us earlier this year. This defense can beat them and Brock has beat them before as well.

Imagine with me now... KC beats the Steelers and we go into Arrowhead and whoop some revenge there. We come home to Houston. Technically the NFC will be the "home" team, but that is OUR NRG all over that stadium.

Crazier things have happened. Look at the year the Giants beat the Patriots. The Giants were 9-7 backing into the playoffs in what was deemed a bad division. Eagles & Cowboys were 8-8 with Washington at 5-11. Pittsburg had the #1 defense that year. (Our Texans were 2nd)

The Texans have something to fight for... PRIDE and the first shot to ever play a Super Bowl at home!

I'm down with that goal. GO TEXANS!!!

I think we beat the Pats once out of 5 games. Hopefully that once is this Saturday!

If we're going to win this game, we have to win it last night, today, and tomorrow. In other words, the coaches have to go into Saturday with the right game plan!

The next time I say O'b out coached some one will be the first time.

I don't think we'll win.

But I expect them boys on Kirby to do everything they can to win. I won't be happy or satisfied with a good showing.

Ain't no "Tied for Runner up to the runner ups" banner.

#1 in yards per game. That's a far cry from the #1 defense. The NFL is about scoring points.
