Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday, September 11th at noon, the Texans will host the Bears at NRG Stadium for the Season opener.
The game will be aired on Fox 26.
With a mostly new offense, The Texans will take the field with Brock Osweiller leading the way.
The Texans will return with at least 9 starters from last year on defense.

The Texans starting offense:

QB Brock Osweiller
RB Lamar Miller
FB Jay Prosch
LT Chris Clark if Duane Brown isn't back
LG Xavier Su'a-Filo
C Greg Mancz
RG Jeff Allen
RT Kendall Lamm if Derek Newton isn't back
TE C.J. Fiedorowicz
WR1 DeAndre Hopkins
WR2 Will Fuller

They will be going against the Bears defense that consists of:

DE Akiem Hicks
DT Eddie Goldman
DE Mitch Unrein
OLB Lamarr Houston if Pernell Mcphee isn't back
ILB Jerrell Freeman
ILB Danny Trevathan
OLB Willie Young
CB Tracy Porter
S Harold Jones-Quartey
S Adrian Amos
CB De'Vante Bausbey if Kyle Fuller isn't back

From the preseason watching both teams, the Bears defense is in for a long day. The Texans offense, retooled with speed, will out match the Bears defense in every way. Lamar Miller should start the season off running fast and hard gaining over 100 yards with 20+ carries and a touchdown. He'll catch the ball out of the back field at least 3 times as well for another 50 yards and a touchdown.
It doesn't end there for the Bears misery.
DeAndre, Will, Brax and even Fido will just blast through the Bears hapless secondary. The Bears have no one that can cover these guys. I see Osweiller launching the ball deep at least 4 or 5 times to Fuller, Miller and of course Hopkins and those receivers getting a combined total of around 350 yards or more and at least 2 touchdowns.

Now on to their offense against our defense.

The Bears offense taking the field:

QB Jay Cutler
RB Jeremy Langford
FB Paul Lasike
LT Charles Leno, Jr.
LG Cody Whitehair
C Ted Larsen
RG Kyle Long
RT Bobbie Massie
TE Zach Miller
WR1 Alshon Jeffery
WR2 Kevin White

And your Texans defense:

DE Devon Still if JJ Watt isn't back
DT Vince Wilfork
DE Christian Covington
OLB Whitney Mercilus
ILB Brian Cushing
ILD Benardrick McKinney
OLB Jadeveon Clowney
CB Johnathan Joseph
S Quintin Demps
S Andre Hal
CB Kareem Jackson

Jay Cutler is going to get beat up. When he gets rattled, he starts making mistakes. With Clowney, Mercilus, Covington and hopefully, JJ coming after him, he will get rattled.
Now Jay will move the ball. Alshon and Jeremy can't be counted out. They are both good.
However, The Texans defense will show up and leave the field from this first game #1 in the NFL against the run and pass. I see Jay getting sacked at least 4 times. He will give up a fumble and throw at least 2 interceptions. The Texans defense just might get yet another touchdown in this game and allow the Bears less then 250 yards of total offense.

With a much improved special teams under Izzo, The Texans will keep the Bears pinned deep and our return teams will get the Texans good field position all day. Lechler is just a beast and Novak has shown to be very dependable. We'll finally get to see Ervin and possibly B. Miller show off their speed and play making ability in the return game. It would be great to see one of them break it for a long touchdown return. Until we can see what they'll actually do in a game, I'll hold off on calling a kick return for a touchdown in this game. After all, it would be asking way too much to ask the Texans to score 49 points in a game. lol

All told, The Texans will man handle the Bears. It's gonna be good.

Prediction:
Texans 42
Bears 10

GO TEXANS!!!

Went to a Bears forum and I literally only saw one poster in the whole thread that said they "could" beat the Texans. Everyone else straight up predicted a loss.

We'll see. I'm feeling good about this team but I don't think the wins will come easy.

Gonna have to play good football all year.

Newton is supposed to be back at RT.
That's right. He should be ready for this game, but if he isn't, Lamm will start in his place.
I put the current starters in their place just in case Brown, Newt and JJ can't make it back for one reason or the other.

Devon Still will be lucky to make the team. IMO, both Dunn and Heath beat him out.
We'll see who the coaches choose, but as of right now, Still is ahead of them in the Depth chart. I'm sure it will be updated once the final 53 are chosen. If it is, I'll change the post. And, we don't even have a depth chart available for next weeks game yet so this is supposition anyway.

At least 2 turnovers.
I doubt JJ plays.. and we don't need him yet anyway.

Chicago is gonna get stomped.
It's going to be embarrassing.
I may even feel a little sorry for da bears.

This is a game we should win by a large margin. This game will show me if we are for real or not. We always have a tendency to not beat up teams we should. Are we the same ol Texans or new and improved looking to curb stomp everyone.

We are going to win and win big guys! The lid comes off the Pandora's Box that is our offense this year, ready the plague the rest of the league with despair!

Why should we win this game by a large margin?

You know we've made some changes to our team. The Bears made changes to their team. They won six games last year. For all we know, they may be an 8-8 team. We won 9 games last year. For all we know, we may be an 8-8 team.

This is week 1, everything starts over. The game plan is going to be a bunch of guesses. We're going to make a bunch of guesses. They're going to make a bunch of guesses. We're going to lock horns, then make adjustments & see what happens. Hopefully we come out with a win.

I wouldn't count on week 1 being a cake walk. Chicago has a good coaching staff, an established QB and OL. The defense will be much improved imo and they will get after it. I think it will be much closer than what many of you are predicting here

I learned my lesson about week 1 cake walks with Sanchez and Ryan a few years ago.
Oline still worries me
This is a completely different team and the O-line will be just fine.

Keep in mind that the Bears will be coming in here with 3 of their defensive players out. 2 of which are in the secondary.
They are weak against the run and a fast passing attack will keep them way off balance and wondering what to do.
Cutler is a good quarterback and he does have Alshon Jeffery and Jeremy Langford, but that's not going to be nearly enough. Neither is considered an elite player. They are just a little bit above average.
I just don't see how the Texans can lose this game. I can't see how the Bears could even hope to keep it close.
I'm going to stand by my prediction.

Who is out? Other than maybe McPhee and Boykin?

edit: I see now that Fuller is injured, but he and McPhee the only starters. Houston not a bad backup if McPhee can't go, don't know anything about Fuller's backup

Typo. I meant 3 of their defensive starters. Mcphee, Boykin and Fuller.
Stiil, does their defense even look like it could possibly match up against the Texans offense? Even if they had all of their starters?
Their coverage in the secondary is more then suspect. It's full oh holes. Also, their line can't stop the run. Lamar Miller and who ever spells him will have a big day. As far as stopping the pass, they simply won't be able to. Fuller, Brax, DHop, Fido, Anderson, Mumph, who ever gets out there will find holes to run through and catch Brock's passes all day.
And quite frankly, Alshon Jefferey would barely be a #4 receiver for the Texans, White would have been cut, and Langford wouldn't have made our back field either.
They simply do not have the talent the Texans have.

The bears line is NOT good, their run game is a giant question mark and their defense is terrible vs the pass. They will struggle mightily vs our offense. And our defense should be able to completely shut them down. Focus on Jeffrey and forget the rest.

I am just anxious to hear how Brown and Watt hold up in practice and how they feel the following day. They need to ease back into things to help prevent a re-injury or compensating injury.

A lot of people are making some real bold predictions. I am very optimistic myself; this preseason we have seen glimpses of what our offense could be. Thing is, we don't know yet what we have on offense. Won't know for several games into the season. We could blow Chicago out of water, but I am not ready to guarantee anything yet. I still need to see it on the field.

Drinking my Kool Aid, 34-9. They dont scare me and the new regime is not hitting their stride yet is my take. Cutler will say hi to Andre Hal, he throws picks and Hal finds it. Receivers open all day, then we salt it away. I just think the defense is the same, the special teams look really upgraded, and the offense also completely re-tooled. Already asked for super bowl week off

Absolutely. He would be.

That's just crazy talk. Jeffrey is very good. He would be our number 2 no doubt about it. Fuller has some features that make him really good, but Jeffrey is an all around better player, especially since Fuller hasn't even played in a regular season game yet. He does have a knack for dropping balls, so while he will help this team, he isn't some bad ass wr. He is just pretty good. Jeffrey is around top 10 in this league.

The only thing I'm worried about is making a wrong food choice Week 1, Killens vs one of those chopped beef baked potatos. Or missing an opportunity to drunkingly throw my arm in the air during one of those "Aaaand that's good for another Houston Texans, FIRST DOWN!" Bears don't stand a chance against this defense, even if JJ is out. I don't care how tiny his dad's head is, Kevin Johnson will be drilling receivers all day long. BOB is going to keep his foot on the gas to find out what kind of offense we really have. 34-10

Yes. Jeffrey is good, but not even close to the level of Hopkins. Has no where near the speed of Fuller and when Braxton really gets going, and it looks like he has, he'll leave Alshon eating his dust.

I appreciate that you like to take being a homer to extremes, but c'mon. Dude had 3300+ yards and 21 touchdowns over the past three seasons, including missing half of last year with injury. Let the rookies play their first real game before crowning them over a young pro-bowler.

Are you honestly comparing what a 3rd round rookie has done in one preseason versus what Jeffery's done his last two and a half actual NFL seasons?

Jeffery is good. I never said he wasn't. He has experience. However, his ceiling is low compared to Fuller and Miller. Watch. By mid season they'll both be out playing Jeffery. They may both even out play him in this game.

I wasn't talking about Fuller and the premise was he wouldn't be in our top 3.

The thing is, teams will be keying on Jeffery all season since he will pretty much have to be their whole offense. White is still learning. Langford doesn't scare anybody. The Bears running game will be worse this year then ours was last year. All teams will have to do to stop the Bears offense is stop Jeffery, and they will.

That's the thing for a changed subject, sure.

Fuller and Miller are young up and comers with very high ceilings. Jeffrey has pretty much reached his. He is a middle of the pack starting wide receiver. The only reason he has higher stats is because he's really the only threatening target that Cutler has to throw to. Even then, his stats are average. Out of the 32 teams #1 receivers he probably ranks closer to the middle at 12 or 13. Above average, but not great. I don't think he would beat out Fuller or Miller if he was here.

Jam, lets not crown the rookies ahead of a pro bowl player just yet...
Did you know that both Fuller and Miller have been spoken of as favorites to win offensive rookie of the year this year? That's a pretty good thing for them both to be in consideration before the season even begins. These guys will be good and Osweiler will use them allot. Another thing that will help both of them is having DHOP to keep pressure off of them. And them to take pressure off of him.

I remember the good 'ol days on this board... When everyone was a realist and kept things in perspective regarding our dear football team. You know, the team that is stuck in perpetual mediocrity and always, always finds a way to fuckk up a good thing. I always secretly hope and pray for the best from the Texans, but growing up a sports fan in Houston I have long ago accepted that the Football Gods hate Houston. So to see Jam put our rookie receivers on a pedestal above a proven top notch player like Jeffrey is disheartening. For now I must face the fact that either Fuller or Miller, likely both, will suffer significant career ending injuries, or go on raping and killing sprees sure to make Darren Sharper and Ray Lewis green with envy. Thanks Jam, you have indeed called down the wrath of the Football Gods.

Who cares. The season hasn't even started, and I'm sure just about every team has fans thinking their 1st round draft pick will win the rookie of the year. Especially the ones that got WR's in the first round.

I have no idea why anyone would say that Miller is going to win rookie of the year. He won't even have the play calls his way to do that. No way in hell that happens. l'd give Fuller a reasonable shot though.

I am not putting them on a pedestal so to speak. They both have great up side. For rookies, they are both way ahead of where any one of us thought they would be. When the preseason started, I was sure they would both be developing behind Strong, Mumphrey and Shorts. Now they are both ahead of all of them in the depth chart. That's pretty amazing.

Go to NFL.com and look at the 2016 season predictions: and the award goes to.... article. Look at the picks for offensive rookie of the year. Fuller and Miller are both spoken of in there. Elliot is spoken of allot more, and he just could possibly win it, but even to be mentioned is good for these 2 guys.

But his stats aren't average.

It's impossible to have a conversation with someone so blinded that they'd say Alshon Jeffery is average while saying that a 3rd round prospect already has a higher ceiling.

What's funny is if you heard a Cowboy fan speaking in a similar vein you'd immediately label him an obnoxious, overbearing fanboy.

At this point in time, Alshon is better then both Fuller and Miller. Keep something in mind. The upside of both players
Fuller is just fast, runs really good routes, tracks the ball really well and is a home run threat every time he goes deep. Miller will be going into just his second year as a receiver. Even still, he has progressed incredibly well. His speed is undeniable. He runs great routes and gets open in a phone booth. He also has explosive ability once the ball is in his hands. He's a home run threat every time he gets ball. I was surprised he lasted into the 3rd round. He could have easily gone on the second round. The Texans are lucky they got him. These 2 guys have nowhere to go but up. And they will continue to get better with each game.

All of that said and done, the point of this thread is to discuss the game.
With or without Alshon Jeffery, the Texans are going to beat the Bears. Badly.

Seriously, I'll take the optimism over the other almost every time, but can we at least be real about things? Fuller and Miller have played ZERO snaps of real NFL football. I appreciate people who are excited about their potential, and I am too, but what's the saying about potential? Potential means you haven't done anything or something like that?

Meanwhile Alshon Jeffery is putting up numbers similar to Nuk. So, the enthusiasm is great, but let's at least have a little perspective.
