At this point in time, Alshon is better then both Fuller and Miller. Keep something in mind. The upside of both players
Fuller is just fast, runs really good routes, tracks the ball really well and is a home run threat every time he goes deep. Miller will be going into just his second year as a receiver. Even still, he has progressed incredibly well. His speed is undeniable. He runs great routes and gets open in a phone booth. He also has explosive ability once the ball is in his hands. He's a home run threat every time he gets ball. I was surprised he lasted into the 3rd round. He could have easily gone on the second round. The Texans are lucky they got him. These 2 guys have nowhere to go but up. And they will continue to get better with each game.

Thank you for telling me Miller's and Fuller's attributes.

Seriously, I'll take the optimism over the other almost every time, but can we at least be real about things?

Real is that something is going to come out of the blue & wreck our season. Fumbulitis, PickSix Machine, Ole defense.... & we'll be left with what could have been.

9 days is way too long to have to wait for the first game. This is going to be a nerve racking week. lol

I remember the good 'ol days on this board... When everyone was a realist and kept things in perspective regarding our dear football team. You know, the team that is stuck in perpetual mediocrity and always, always finds a way to fuckk up a good thing. I always secretly hope and pray for the best from the Texans, but growing up a sports fan in Houston I have long ago accepted that the Football Gods hate Houston. So to see Jam put our rookie receivers on a pedestal above a proven top notch player like Jeffrey is disheartening. For now I must face the fact that either Fuller or Miller, likely both, will suffer significant career ending injuries, or go on raping and killing sprees sure to make Darren Sharper and Ray Lewis green with envy. Thanks Jam, you have indeed called down the wrath of the Football Gods.
You call that "the good 'ol days? Sounds like a bunch of Dallas fans to me. I, like many others, have a positive outlook but that doesn't mean I'm delusional, I just always watch hoping that my team takes the win. Who the hell goes to a game/watch on tv expecting us to lose just because of this silly superstition of the "football gods hating Houston?"

On the contrary, cowgirl fans typically sound like Jam. They have the absolute best player at every position (even before they take a snap in the NFL) and they start every season prepared to go 16-0.

Not a fan of all the 'football gods hate Houston' stuff either. Just sounds insecure and defeatist.

So what should I do? Be completely negative? The Texans had the worst draft ever this year and Rick smith should be fired. All of the picks and free agency pick ups will be a complete bust. The Texans will go 0-16 and take the first pick in the Draft next year....which they will once again, squander. Bill O'brien, Romeo Crennell, Rick Smith, the entire coaching staff and front office will all be fired before seasons end.
Is that what you want to see?

Go to NFL.com and look at the 2016 season predictions: and the award goes to.... article. Look at the picks for offensive rookie of the year. Fuller and Miller are both spoken of in there. Elliot is spoken of allot more, and he just could possibly win it, but even to be mentioned is good for these 2 guys.
Did that. And the overwhelming favorite for RotY is Ezekiel Elliott. One guy mentioned Braxton Miller and another couple mentioned Fuller. And on that minority speculation vs. two 1000-yd seasons, you're saying Alshon Jeffery would be our #4 WR??? Hell, if, by some miracle, Smith had managed to wrest Jeffery away from the Bears pre-draft, I'd bet Miller wouldn't be here. And maybe neither would Fuller.

I prefer to take a positive view point. This does look like a pretty good team on paper. It should translate into wins and going far this season. Do I think the Texans will blast every team to pieces and go undefeated? No one expects that. That is ridiculous, but I'm not going to go into the season thinking the Texans are going to lose. That's for sure.

Oh you've been reading the old threads on here now huh????

Dude, you know I'm just being sarcastic and cynical and stuff right? It's just kinda funny seeing someone post like you do on here. This board is a doom and gloom board, has been since I joined.

Don't know about soundimg like Jam but one contrast that hit me hard was sitting in the stadium the inaugural season and if the Texans got down folks gave up whereas Cowboys fans think the game can still be won until the buzzer runs out.

JamTex, I have been reading your post for years now and throughly enjoy your enthusiasm and positive approach. I think even YOU know some of your post are fun in gesture and sometimes seem far fetched...........but man, they get ya ready for some Texans football. Keep on keeping on brother!!

Give it a few decades, the feeling will grow on you.

No, I'm certain it won't. I've experienced my share of Houston sports gaffs, close calls, and shoulda, coulda, woulda's.

Just not wired to see things as designed for my suffering. You enjoy that though, bud.

JT, something like, "despite having a pro bowl WR, the Bears have no other weapons to scare the Texans #1 defense. Romeo will stop their only threat while the young guns begin their rookie of the year campaign. Bears get smoked 34-9" Shows a little respect, but still, I agree, we smoke em

5 Super Bowls and a team that never left town can help with that....

I'm almost 100% certain just recently we went through a discussion about insane optimism and hopeless pessimism being a completely false dichotomy.

The Texans, year in and year out have given us all reason to be doom and gloom. I've still managed to keep a positive attitude. Now we finally have a team that could just possibly do something in the next couple of years and maybe even give us a championship. We have more to look forward to this year then we ever have. Even the '11 and '12 Texans teams weren't put together or coached as well as this one.
I hope everything turns out good and this Texans team gives us something to enjoy watching and be proud of on Sundays.
We just might see that this year and the doom and gloom might start yielding to optimism and joy.
We can hope. It's ok.

Watched all the Bears preseason, and these guys are completely beatable.

Frustrate Cutler.

Get Brock comfortable.

Turn my boy Fuller loose!

Win!

Bears 10

I'm waiting for EllisUnit's prediction thread. But if it doesn't show up I'll enter my prediction here at the 11th hour.

JT, first, as was said above, keep doing what ya' doing. Please continue splashing the Battle-Red Kool-Aid<tm> around as the season approaches.... cuz I likes it!

As for Houston sports history, I don't think anyone actually believes there is a jinx or anything, but it is fun to play like there is. Maybe even a nostalgia thing going on there, makes us feel good that we been through the worst and survived.

I'm sure we are all excited about the upcoming season and hope that the Texans kick some ASSSSSSSSSSS!

Devon Still will be lucky to make the team. IMO, both Dunn and Heath beat him out.
I question what you were looking at. I watched the replay today and Still looked good. Dunn was satisfactory and Heath did well later in game against backups. I see no reason all three can't remain on roster.

That's just crazy talk. Jeffrey is very good. He would be our number 2 no doubt about it. Fuller has some features that make him really good, but Jeffrey is an all around better player, especially since Fuller hasn't even played in a regular season game yet. He does have a knack for dropping balls, so while he will help this team, he isn't some bad ass wr. He is just pretty good. Jeffrey is around top 10 in this league.
how many did Fuller drop in these four games that he should have caught? Not disagreeing on Jeffrey.

That's right. He should be ready for this game, but if he isn't, Lamm will start in his place.
I put the current starters in their place just in case Brown, Newt and JJ can't make it back for one reason or the other.

Lamm will start and Newton will see limited action.

My predictions:

Brock throws for 325 yards with 3 TDs

L. Miller runs for 128 yards, 3 catches for 45 yards and a TD

Hopkins 8 receptions for 110 yards and a TD

Fuller 5 receptions for 78 yards and a TD

Novak with 3 FGs

The defense forces 2 turnovers, allow only 260 yards of offense and 9 points on FG's

Final score Texans 30 Bears 9

Our special team play is 100 times better in this game.

Alshon Jeffrey is a young talented and dependable WR. There are very few teams that wouldn't have him as their go to guy. Don't forget they also have Kevin White, he missed his rookie season with because of surgery for stress fractures (shin splints?)

I had to edit the main post since Hunt was cut and will no longer be a possible return man for the return teams. Don't know who will be the return men, but possible that they could be Ervin and B. Miller. Maybe even Mumphrey again. Those are my best guesses anyway.

If Mump is returning kicks as the primary option then we failed to accomplish one of our off season goals.
I have the feeling return duties will belong to Ervin this year. Miller and Mumphrey will most likely be back ups.

Someone has gotten into the special spiked Jim Jones version of the fool-aid. No that's not a typo.

For some reason I envision you owning a pogo stick.
