The Actual And Real 2016 Texans' Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

With the 45th pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams select:

Jaylon Smith LB from Notre Dame

Though only a moderate need, he's just too good to pass on when you get the chance.

If you didn't need him then that's good. Cause he is going to miss the 2016 season, lol

I really wanted to draft him with my comp pick at the end of the 4th.

Anyone think he can last to end of 4th at the comp picks in the real draft?

lol I was worried that you would nab him with the 43rd pick, knowing that the QB you wanted would be safe 2 picks later lol
It's like you were reading my mind.

I actually had Bell at 43A and Smith at 43B with Cook at 45, but I chickened out. I was planning on getting two of the three.

I look at him like trading a 2016 second for a 2017 first. If he comes back earlier, thats even better. But if he makes a full recovery, then he's elite.

Not really.

I was already considering him as well. This might be a little early for him, but like Marshall said, if he fully recovers, you just got two first rounders in 2017. Except he'll have had a year to work with your doctors, your strength and conditioning staff, and most importantly, he'll have been able to be in team meetings and see how things work.

I think you have to be pretty secure in your job to make a pick like that. I don't think Smith and O'Brien are that comfy.
I think they've shown a lot of nerve myself. To the chagrin of most many times, but with the occasional lotto pick.

With the #49 pick the Buffalo Bills select:

Kevin Hogan - QB, Stanford

I'm not super confident about this pick but we can't walk out of this draft without a QB. I wanted to wait a little later but the way the board has fallen leaves me with little choice. I love Hogan's mind and his pedigree. He needs a lot of technical refinement but he has the tools to be a decent starter in this league if we can coach him up.

I love the pick. I love Hogan. I know whatever team he goes to will try to work out some of those mechanics, but... I don't think he'll ever be pretty. However, he's going to be able to get to that next level, I think, because of what goes on between the ears.

& he's tough as nails.

I'm not worried about pretty. It doesn't need to be the prototype release for me to be happy. But it has to get tighter and quicker. I am worried about strip sacks from holding the ball out away from his body and INTs from telegraphing his throws.

This can't be routine in the NFL.

This is a gut pick, I don't really know where this guy "should" be taken. I'm looking at a few different top 100s, a couple of rankings from some of our very own draftniks... but I just like this guy for Atlanta more than the guys I "should" take. So...

With the 50th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Michael Thomas WR(Ohio State).

This is not a Roddy White replacement... this is something different, something new... hopefully something better.

This is Thomas' range. That's a great pick for Atlanta.

Jets are up. They could really use help at RG and RT. I'm thinking Josh Garnett would be perfect. Fits that need and it's great value here.

I would agree with Josh Garnett. I would also opine that the Jets passed on any QBs that could definitely beat out Geno or Petty. So, QB would be a wasted pick here.

We should take votes on the Jets pick and wrap it up tonight, so we can start fresh in the morning with the Texans pick.

I'll give my vote to Garnett also... maybe we can start on Texans pick tonight :D

Sure, once we settle on the Jets pick. I just want the morning types to get their votes in on the Texans selection.

We could start discussion and voting for the Texans tonight and maybe conclude tomorrow morning? Say make it official at 9 AM?

That would give two hours on the clock tonight and two hours in the morning.

Garnett is a solid choice.

Just realize he'll probably miss OTA's, so late start like X.

For the Texans has Fuller been picked yet?

I dont see him anywhere on the list. If so he's a must pick for the Texans.

There's a couple of options I see.

Possible future LT in Coleman.

Stud S in Jeremy Cash.

But I'll cast my vote for:

Sterling Shepard - WR, Oklahoma

That's a no brainer to me. Perfect slot receiver. More well-rounded than Fuller. Every bit the athlete, better route runner, and better hands by a great deal.

I'm going off the reservation, but I have to vote for Braxton Miller, WR, Ohio State. I think he's the best playmaker left in this draft. He may end up the best playmaker in this draft, period. I know O'Brien could come up with all sorts of ways to use him.

I like Shepard and Fuller but man Safety is a screaming need to me... are there WR's to add later and are there Safeties to add later? Nick Martin should be a strong consideration also if he's available. What's the value pick here?

Well since you guys screwed the pooch and didnt draft a WR in the first I have to go Sterling Shepard. We HAVE to get our new QB more weapons.

Sarcasm. But no really I vote Shepard.

Count as of now, subject to change:

OT Shon Coleman (1) - Texian
WR Will Fuller (2) - beerlover, steelbtexan?
WR Braxton Miller (2) - Lucky, thunderkyss
WR Sterling Shepard (4) - bah007, infantrycak, mussop, WolverineFan

Thoughts on Su'a Cravens? He'd make a dynamite SS in the Polamalu mold

I don't know if my vote I sent to The Pencil Neck was tabulated or not. I thought you might make the pick before I got back.

It is for Fuller. One of the other 2 of 3 choices got taken two picks before.

But all the selections mentioned would make me happy. It' time to flip a coin. Just don't make a bad selection when there are so many good ones available.

While I will give you Shepard runs better routes, (Not that Fuller has been asked to run these routes) and has better hands, I just cant turn down a WR with gamebreaking speed that has scored 29 TD's in the last 2 yrs.

If you guys like Shepard and want to go that route I understand, but I would draft Coleman and Glasgow in rds 2-3 and pick Malcolm Mitchell who's basically the same player as Shepard in RD 4.

I like Cravens better than Shepard for the Texans pick.

I'm torn between Cravens, Cash and Nick Martin for the Texans in round 2. Martin is supposed to be better than his brother and would solidify the position for years... compares to Alex Mack
