What to do in 1st round?

Out of position for top 3 QB's, what should be 1st round strategy now?

Unless there's just one guy you're looking at that you're afraid Cleveland might grab, I wouldn't bother trying to get up to #1. I don't see anybody in the top 10 that I think would be willing to burn that high of a pick on a QB. SD should start looking for Rivers replacement but do they spend the #3 to do that? I don't think they do. Same with Dallas. I wouldn't think they spend the 4th pick in the draft on a QB even with Romo's injury concerns. Might take one in the 2nd (SD too) but I'm not sure they'd take the shot at #4.

With SF announcing they're keeping Kap and Gabbert, I don't see anyone else needing to burn a 1st on QB until maybe Philly at 13?

I absolutely think the Texans need to do what they can to move up to take a shot at getting their franchise QB, because they remain in mediocreland until they do. I just don't think they have to pay the mother load and go all the way to #1 to do it. They could trade up to 6, 10, even 12, and still have a shot at Goff, Wentz, whoever the top QBs are that Cleveland doesn't take.

This is pretty much how I see it. I think the trade targets are Cowboys at 4 and New Orleans are 12.

Of course getting Wentz or Goff later in first is preferable but at least twice recently IMO, Texans were jumped and lost a LB and a QB. Other teams could offer more to jump Texans at
#12..Eagles for example.

You don't move up to "take a shot at getting your franchise QB".

Really? Then when do you take your shot?
With a scope so you know what you're looking at.

Oops! bad eyes. I thought you said how. When? Is when you see clearly the probable outcome after sober consideration and it is good,.

Listened to 610 radio today and was announced Texans interviewed OG Cody Whitehair for second time. Bucky Brooks compares him to Zack Martin.

Maybe Goff starts to fall... and he can't eat at Burger King...

I can't wait for the draft. On pins and needles. But if the Toros don't get a QB, just consider me a Saints fan from then on.

You ever want to get discouraged about the lack of investment outside of Carr (obvious 1:1 pick for an expansion franchise) and Schaub (ended up being a great value for two 2nd round picks), look at the all time passing leaders for the organization. Sage Rosenfels is #3 and Brian Freaking Hoyer is #4.

We run a ball control offense that can't control the ball b/c we can't run it with any consistency.. That's why I voted for taking a rb in the 1st.

But I'd be fine with taking the best offensive skill player on the board..rb, wr or te
How about the guys that block for the skill pkayers?

The draft is still practically two months away. And we have the 22'd pick. I don't see a really good QB falling to us, so we may have to reach to get a lesser quality QB that we HOPE might work out. Which is the case with all of them anyway, I just would hate to see us drafting 3rd round talent in the 1st round if there's a run on QBs this year.

Get a super good skill player in round 1. Then get Jimmy Garoppolo from the Pats for a 2nd and 4th round pick. That should take care of our QB woes without selling the farm.

I think Elliott, Spriggs, Alex Collins, Corey Coleman, Josh Docston, Jaran Reed and Will Fuller could develop into super good skill players and all could be there #22.

Well, there's some pretty damn good running backs. 1 pretty good looking TE. Some nice slot type guys.

The only way I draft a RB in the first round os if he's a game changer. Gurly or Peterson type. As much as I like elliot he's not at that level for me.

TE no thanks not in this draft.

What slot guy is worth a first round pick?

Actually Badboy thats a pretty good list. I wouldn't complain about any of them. I would rather we went after Offense in FA and built the defense through the draft since this is such a weak offensive and strong defensive draft. Something like resign Brooks and Jones then Bring in QB Osweiler, TE Green, RB Miller and WR Benjamin.

Then draft BPA preferably OL and DL early.

Elliott is close enough for me. Closer to being a "game changing" RB than any of these QB prospects are to being "franchise QBs" a-la (Andrew Luck or Russell wilson).

thanks, issue is IMO all but Collins will go between #22 and our #52. Positive is we can check off two priority needs with Spriggs a true LT and Collins RB; with Brown a 50-50 casualty and nothing much left at RB, both these players could start game one. Another possibility that interests me is looking at OTs like Stanford's Kyle Murphy or ND St Haeg who could be long term LTs even if they don't start immediately. We could then go possible franchise WR Coleman {need to see if he can run 40 at pro day} or Jaran Reed #22.

Anybody besides me pumped about Clemson's Charone Peake? After acting like he did not know what he was doing, he turned it loose this season and jumped up boards. 6'3" 209 4.45 speed with a vert of three feet. He has supposedly beat Sammy Watkins and had two stop watch of 4.29s; currently ranked 168. A good blocker with soft hands that can play slot or outside. If Strong take the usual step up in second season, we could have best receiver corp in league...if we have a QB.

I think Os or Garoppolo could work. We need to fill as many spots with FA as possible.

there going hackenberg in the 2nd and 1st we will get BPA on Offensive Like a Tackle or WR or RB

that way whoever comes in Hoyer or savage or rookie he will have weapons and protection

Well .... they seem to believe they got their QB , I'm not so sure .... but that signing changes my draft perspective.

You have to take the best available offensive skill position player on the board be it WR , RB or TE (unless one of the top two QB's falls into your lap) and I might consider an OT as well ... if he graded out significantly higher than those skill positions with Brown being highly questionable.

Any chance that wide receiver Josh Doctson out of TCU (6'4 and 195) will be on the board when the Texans come up to pick at #22 in the first round? Trying to visualize him and Nuk Hopkins. Oh my goodness, Brock Osweiler can throw some deep bombs to those huge hands.

The hands, the athleticism, the speed. He's a playmaker.
The Houston Texans have to consider him if he's there.

Also a beast in the red zone because of his great leaping ability.
He would be quite the weapon to have on the other side of Hopkins.

The Texans really need to address LT in the draft. I'm not sure the right guy will be there at 1.22 and I'm not sure the guy needs to be penciled in as a starter, but that position needs to be addressed with a sense of urgency. Clark will do as a stop gap, but he should not be considered the long term answer if DB doesn't return to form.

Does anyone else want to draft a DT in the first round? I am hoping Ryan Kelly from Bama in the 2nd round if he is still available and then either a speedy WR or solid LT in the 3rd round.

I have to disagree a little. Most see this a a defensive heavy draft for defense. I'd say get the BPA regardless of which side of the ball they're on. We need a good NT, a DE, ILB and a safety and perhaps CB if Strong doesn't get the message to avoid "friends" like those who threw him under the bus.

If this guy is there at 22, this would be my pick.

Our offense might just be more than mediocre with a QB that can throw, Nuk and Doctson and Strong and Miller at RB. Sure would be fun to watch.

Several mocks have Doctson falling to us and past us. I'd be totally psyched if we got him, and I think it's possible.

But there's also Duane Brown's injury to consider, so one of the better OTs will also be in play at 1.22.

If Doctson is there you pick him. He's the weapon that would make this offense very dangerous. If I was in charge I would pick Doctson and trade beck into the bottom of the 1st or top of the 2nd for the best OT if a guy like Spriggs/Conklin fall.
