So you say goodbye to two QB's - one a slam dunk first ballot HoF'er, and the other a young QB moving on to take on the starter role for a team you'll likely play every other season or so (plus any playoff match ups that may happen), and you decide to publicly refer to the play of those two QB's as sub-optimal and near replacement- level?
Stay Classy Denver!
That article doesn't mention all of the other key losses, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Typical Denver drivel to entertain the masses for a few laughs and giggles. They lose six starters, maybe seven at last count (if C.J. Anderson's offer sheet with Miami isn't matched), from that Super Bowl 50 winning team but they act like they're still the team to beat and a guaranteed dynasty in the making. Winning Super Bowls is easy, right?
And they have Super Bowl 50 MVP, Von Miller, slapped to a franchise tag like they don't have the cap space to give him a major deal. I'm sure Von Miller would like to receive his big multi-year payday already.
Especially when guys like Olivier Vernon, are making major bank this off-season. He's now the second highest-paid defensive player in the game (after Ndamukong Suh) and he's just a very good player, I wouldn't call him elite by any means - 3.5, 11.5, 6.5 and 7.5 sacks during his four seasons as a pro - eh, that's pretty good but a little yawnish to me (he's no J.J. Watt obviously but he's now being paid more than Watt)..
J.J. Watt and Von Miller should be the two highest-paid defensive players in the league based on actual talent and domination on the field. Watt is barely in the top five highest-paid defensive players (Justin Houston is third) and Von Miller is on a one year deal, franchise tag.
What am I missing here? Best players should make the most money right? If I were Von Miller's agent I'd be pissed off and ready to break the bank. LOL. Denver better pony up and stop hiding behind the franchise tag.
Also no mention of Wade Phillips' coaching track record. He has the #1 ranked defense, or top five and near the top, everywhere he's been the D-coordinator during that first year. After that it all goes downhill. But I'm sure all is good in Denver. They can win the Super Bowl again next year with any quarterback.
