The Johnny "Football" Manziel NFL thread

schaaaaaub.0.gif

The Ravens were 3-7 before Schaub took a snap for them & that pick six epitomizes why.

In the last calendar year the Ravens have lost their best DT (Ngata - trade), LB (Suggs), WR (Smith Jr), RB (Forset), and QB (Flaco). That's more of the reason why they are 3-7. Their top 5 players are not playing or no longer with the team.

That pick was totally on Schaub. It was a lazy read.

He got man coverage across the board with a deep safety. His man had a step so he let it fly in front of the CB but below the S. He didn't even scan inside to check for a zone defender. He just assumed there was nobody there.

Instead of diagnosing the defense he just guessed. Would have been a good throw if there wasn't somebody hanging out underneath, but there was.

I'm not arguing that at all. The pick was definitely his fault. The 6... I'm putting that on the team when a 4.5~4.7 forty LB returns it 50 yards for a TD.

Pryor signing with the Browns is so ironic. Bench a QB that partied, sign a guy that almost sunk a massive college program and forced his coach to resign.

Well yeah, but 40% of that list (Forset & Flacco) missed their first start last night, and they're 1-0 without them. Also, Smith started 7 games, and they went 1-6 over those games, so I'm thinking there's a fair amount more than those 5 guys when evaluating their current record.

When evaluating their record keep this in mind:
http://espn.go.com/espn/elias

The Ravens have played 11 games, and none have been decided by more than eight points. Baltimore is the fourth team in NFL history to play 11 straight "one-possession" games within a season (i.e. decided by eight points or less when the two-point conversion is available, seven or less otherwise), and the first to do so in each of its first 11 contests. San Diego played 12 straight one-possession games in 1989; Washington played 11 in a row in 1967; and Cincinnati played 11 straight in 2003.

So even with injuries and what not we're talking one possession. I wouldn't be overly concerned about them being bad again next year.

Player A is Austin Davis, the QB that Browns fans loudly booed when he entered the game, before he led them down the field to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.

Player B is Johnny Manziel, the QB that Browns fans were cheering for when McCown got hurt, after he got benched for breaking team rules and then lying to the team and fans about it.

Can someone explain this to me?

From what I say, McCown probably sustained a serious A-C shoulder separation or a clavicular fracture. (An MRI may be scheduled today to characterize the injury in more detail. The reports say that he will have x-rays today, but I guarantee you that x-rays were taken right after the injury and the Browns pretty well know what his injury is at this time.) Either way, it is probable that the Brown have lost him for the season. If Pryor is signed, he will probably revert from WR to backup QB. He isn't starter material, but since his college antics, he has seemed to keep his nose clean and work hard in the NFL, despite his obvious limitations. I wouldn't be surprised to see JFF remain #3 until things get sorted out at the end of the season.

Simple. Brown fans, like their FO, have no ability to properly evaluate talent.

Browns fans know their franchise QB will most likely be a guy drafted in the first round & not some undrafted will never be Tom Brady once in a million shot free agent. Who wasn't booed as much as the decision not to put Manziel in the game was booed. Like we weren't cheering that Schaub got hurt, but the fact that we'll finally see the QB change that was long overdue.

Like us, the Browns want to find their franchise QB. Whether it's Manziel or not is irrelevant. Throw him out there, see what happens on the field, then move the f'ck on.

Austin Davis... or whatever his name is isn't the guy any more than Brian Hoyer, Fitzpatrick, or Ryan Mallet was. Taking a shot with Mallett made sense. Wasting time with Fitzpatrick & Hoyer doesn't make sense when we already had Yates & Keenum.

Acquiring Johnny Manziel would be one of Jerry Jones' worst decisions
3 hrs
Jean-Jacques Taylor, ESPN Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas -- Johnny Football playing for the Dallas Cowboys would be among Jerry Jones’ worst ideas.

Ever.

First, there’s no tangible evidence Johnny Manziel can be a good NFL quarterback, whether he’s starting or being a backup for Tony Romo.

We’re talking about a player who has passed for more than 200 yards once in 12 games, five starts, while completing just 57.7 percent of his passes.

Cleveland Browns get rid of Manziel this offseason, the former first-round pick is a bad fit for any team unless it builds an offense around him the way the Carolina Panthers have built their offense around Cam Newton. Or the way the Washington Redskins built their offense around Robert Griffin III his rookie season under coach Mike Shanahan.

No team builds its offense around a backup quarterback that every coach hopes to see on the sideline with a baseball cap and clipboard all season.

The transition from the starter to the backup is supposed to be smooth. Well, that’s not going to happen if every offensive player must adjust for the backup.

The reality is there couldn’t be a worse city in America for Manziel to play unless, maybe, it was in Houston.

Part of the reason Manziel currently resides in purgatory is that he hasn't shown the discipline to be an NFL quarterback.

The quarterback must be the most trusted and reliable player in an organization because the game revolves around their skill set. Name a good team with a bad quarterback? You can’t. They don’t exist.

Two weeks ago, the Browns named Manziel their starter for the rest of the season. They reportedly asked him not to attract any negative attention during the bye week, and he promised to comply.

He didn’t. Videos surfaced of him partying in Austin, Texas. Then he reportedly lied about the incident when the Browns inquired about it. Worse, he reportedly asked his friends to lie about the situation if the Browns asked them about it.

The Browns verified the videos and made Manziel their third-string quarterback until further notice.

The Cowboys are willing to put up with distractions from players such as Greg Hardy who have the potential to be among the league’s best. They're not willing to do it for fringe NFL players.

Besides, can you imagine the drama Manziel’s presence would create every time Romo threw an interception or had a bad game? The Romo haters would be in full effect calling for Manziel to start.

Social media would be on fire with thoughts about Romo’s future and Manziel’s potential, and the topic would provide daily segments for sports talk radio.

All of that for a player who has 1,108 passing yards and five touchdowns in his career. The Cowboys use a timing-based offense that’s based on precision; Manziel is a player who operates best when he’s freelancing.

Any way you examine it, Manziel is a poor fit in Dallas. It doesn’t matter if the Cowboys had him ranked as one of the top players in the 2013 draft because everyone can see he’s not.

It doesn’t matter that Jones covets him, the excitement he would create, and the ticket sales he would generate for fans who are convinced that all he needs is an opportunity to be a great player.

Jones wanted the Cowboys to draft him, and the club’s other power brokers -- head coach Jason Garrett, vice president Stephen Jones and scouting director Will McClay -- talked him out of it.

They’ll do it again, as they should.

Yeah & that's worked out GREEEEAAAATT for them too. Manziel's last start, they did some spot with Suzy Kolber & they literally ran a ticker tape at the bottom of the screen showing all 22 of their starting qb's since they came back into existence. It was really eye opening just how many guys they've had start games for them over the last 15 years.

Personally I think it's ridiculous that the team punished him for partying during the bye week.

But that's me.

Personally I think it's ridiculous that the team punished him for partying during the bye week.

They didn't punish him for partying. They punished him for lying to them about it.

By all accounts, Pettine apparently still considered him the starting QB even after he was caught and brought him in for a meeting to have a man-to-man conversation. During that meeting is when Manziel lied to his face about partying that weekend and made excuses for what happened. Pettine immediately benched him in response (and had every right to do so).

I'm not arguing any of that, I'm just saying I think it's stupid & demonstrates why Cleveland is the factory of sadness they are.

They let outside opinions steer the direction of their franchise. Starting back to the hype & the text that got Johnny drafted.

This is just another example.

So you're saying that lying to your boss is ok?

So you're saying that lying to your boss is ok?

If I were the Browns (Petine) I never would have asked him. They know what they got. If we can see it from our couches in Texas, they can see it from their facility in Cleveland.

I'd have just went straight to chewing his ass out. & if I thought that night of partying was going to affect his play on the field, I'd have told him so & made sure he understood that is why McCown would start the next game.

For all I know, now he thinks the partying is ok as long as he doesn't lie about it.

A lifetime of irresponsible behavior is very difficult to unlearn. But it won't happen at all without consequences.
Yeah man but he's experienced a ton of consequences. The only 2 that are left are
A - Losing your livelihood
B - Losing your life

What consequences? Before the Monday Night game ESPN did an entire segment dedicated to the complete lack of consequences Manziel has had to face for his actions. This reinstatement as starter is just one more in a very long line.

Consequences do not begin with EMPTY THREATS. The only consequence so far is two starts for irresponsible behavior (partying while on "probation") AND Immoral behavior (LYING) toward your employer.

My guess is that the consequences are not severe enough to REALLY get his attention.

I truly hope he does not face the reality of consequences described by Scooter:
A - Losing your livelihood
B - Losing your life

But that looks like his current path. But for me, a worse option would be:
C - Killing someone else while demonstrating irresponsible behavior.

I need a little more than a good game against a team playing out the string before I think anything has changed. Not saying you don't, just saying.
Well in 6 games played this season, he has a QB rating of 88, 5 TDs to only 2 INTs. Not stellar numbers by any stretch of the imagination, but he's at least played consistently average. I'd take his average play with some upside over Hoyer's average play with zero upside.

I'm not saying he's the answer. Only me, the Aggie homer, would consider signing him if he were released by the Browns, but I feel comfortable saying he'd have gotten us at least 1 TD in all those opportunities our defense and special teams handed the offense tonight.

Man this team fell in love with the Idea of the TWO Towers Clowney & Watt reaking havoc on the NFL

Heeeeeeeeeeere's Johnny...........again!...........drinking 4 Locos at a Christmas party......as his antics are voluntarily captured by cell phone video.......reported by Busted

Partying at home - low profile.

Filming yourself drinking when you went to rehab due to drinking - not low profile.

If I'm in the doghouse it wouldn't be hard to forsake drinking with my boys but if not then Cmon have enough sense to not document it. Damn this guy is just dumb.

I can't tell if Johnny is more addicted to drinking or more addicted to social media. He obviously can't help himself from partying and somehow he just cannot help himself from capturing said partying on his phone and putting it online so all his little bro's can give him some likes. He's digging his own NFL grave and seems completely oblivious to it.

While I agree with you, if there was social media back when Stabler/Pastorini etc... played I wonder how they would be viewed today? Political correctness is inheriting the earth.

Let me add that Manziel is a target so I wouldn't doubt if one his boys told him this wouldn't be posted on Instagram or wherever but posted it anyway. He has to know that he can't trust people to be discreet by now and he shouldn't put himself in these situations.

Oh I totally agree with you. I bet Jordan, Farvre, Barkley, Magic, LT (the original) partied like freaking animals but they didn't have to worry about prying eyes everywhere.

This generation of athletes knows better though but still make it too easy to get burned. I think people me included would have a different point of view about Manziel if he was as established as a professional athlete as the guys I mentioned.

When I watched the video, I thought that he was just sneezing into his elbow crease.........the way medical personnel are taught so that they don't later transfer germs via their hands.

Was I wrong. The focus of Manziel's irrational behavior has gone beyond his alcoholic 4 Loco drink.............it has turned to the much more disturbing "dabbing" which I misinterpreted as a sneezing etiquette.

What is dabbing?................It's turned into a representative dance..........
but, it’s important to state that dabbing is also the term for smoking butane hash oil and extracting 90 percent of the THC. In other words, it gets you dumb high. No coincidence that this nonsensical dance that resembles proper seizing etiquette relates to being blazed out of one’s mind.

Just what you want to capture on Video, dumb ass!

Somewhere out there, there's a village being denied an idiot!
