2015 Houston Cougars Season

Like this 5-star superstar DT Ed Oliver. Beast mode!!!!
I can't wait to see him dominating on the U of H field.

One scout told me he's as good as Vince Wilfork was.
Same size as big Vince was coming out of high school.

The Houston Cougars will be a top program for the next several years if they keep recruiting five-star recruits in the state. Cracking the top 25 right now is just the start.

They've already been recruiting very well in the state of Texas for next year. A lot of those 5-star recruits are finishing their senior year of high school right now. This was just the first big piece that fell into place.

If we can just keep the best local talent in the Houston area U of H will become a National Championship team before you know it. The days of those other schools coming into our house and stealing away our best local talent are over!
Yep, he is a beast. Love the video thanks. There are several 4 star Texan prospects undecided and I hope, they choose UH. Seems to me Coogs is on rise in recruiting. Gosh, its been too long. When UH joins Big 12, it will be like an old Southwest Conference minus a few original schools of course but similarity is there. TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor and, UT.

I am in the same boat. I am trying to sell my Texans tickets, but if I cant get good value, I will just go to the Texans game.

I was able to sell the Texans tickets and attended the UH SMU game and its safe to say I made the right choice. Had a blast. And I am sure NRG was filled with frustrated fans.

Go Coogs!

Where can they end up if they run the table and finish undefeated. Top 10 maybe? I know the strength of schedule isn't the best this year. But certainly, looking at their schedule, going undefeated is possible.

They actually have a chance to move up quite a bit because there are some legit teams the last month plus a potential AAC championship game too.

Cougars have two O-linemen out for the season. A third one is questionable with an ankle sprain.

We shall see how they adapt.

Yeah, the O-line that is now on the field is going to have to play better as the season progresses.

The AAC is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the near future, hell already 3 teams in top 25. This should help recruiting within the conference as well. I just hope Herman dont pull a Sumlin and bail for a power 5 school.

South Carolina has targeted Herman as the #1 priority for their opening. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. They are a P5 school but I don't really consider them a hot job.

Sumlin turned down Arizona or Arizona St. and maybe another job or two before settling on the A&M job. I tend to think of SC the same way I think of Arizona (St).

I'm not saying he leaves but I do think it will be interesting to see it play out. There are a TON of openings this year. This is not a good year to have a hot young coach (looking at you UH, Memphis, Temple, Western Michigan, Toledo).

It's hard to justify turning down the kind of $$$ that Herman will likely be offered. It could setup his family for life. I couldn't blame the guy a bit. It's just sad that UH has been boxed out of the big conferences and the money that comes with them.

Is there a big precedent for coaches leaving after a single year? I mean, other than asshat Todd Graham do a lot of coaches bail out after a single season?

Not really but then not many coaches win a national title as a coordinator and then get a head coaching job and go undefeated. The Herman situation is pretty unique.

Herman going to SCar would make things interesting. Two former UH coaches going head to head once a year in the SEC...

You know what would really make things interesting? Herman staying in Houston and leading the program out of obscurity and into a real conference and regular top 25 status.

That's what I'd find really interesting. UH should be talking to him about his future there non-stop and scraping together the funds to make it happen.

Frank Beamer announced today that he will be retiring after the season. Add another Power Five school to the list.

Virginia Tech
Minnesota
Miami
South Carolina
USC
Maryland
Illinois

Those are the P5 openings right now and there will probably be 3-4 more openings before the season is over. We're looking at about 10 P5 schools having HC vacancies this offseason and some pretty prominent programs will be among them.

The 34-0 final score was not even that close. Coogs completely dominated Vanderbilt in every phase of the game.

I don't think Coach Herman will leave after this season but I do feel he will leave if the facilities, marketing, and other aspects to making a solid program don't happen. For example he is big about upgrading facilities and wants an indoor training area. He also wants to bump up the marketing efforts and doesn't understand why alums and fans don't fill the stadium (including students).

If I was wealthy and not working in a shaky industry (O&G duh) I would throw money at UH to make improvements and be a part of the change. I'm not a fan of money going exclusively towards athletics but UH is an exception. If the above mentioned doesn't happen HE will leave for another program. He is truly God-send in that he cares enough to turn UH football around.

I would hope that the admin at UH becomes focused on improving UH from several areas that are too numerous to list. Hell if the City of Houston would step up and make that area safer and get rid of the hood that would go a long way.

We attended the game. It was a wet mess. But the team made the night super enjoyable. The defense and special teams dominated Vandy, while the offense took care of the football and did OK.

I am very interested to see how this team does against Cincy since Kiel seems to be playing so well lately. UH should be able to pull out the W especially with the defense playing elite football. Then the showdown with Memphis. Thankfully 3 of their last 4 games are in Houston which helps. Even with more rain predicted for Saturday, I expect a nice sized crowd, and a sellout vs Memphis.

Screw that, how about him staying at UH and finishing what he started trying to turn the program around. We are top 25 this year, hell i bet we see some big national non conference games come next season that if we win could propel us into a top 10 team.

Don't get me wrong, Herman is great for UH and if he stays for a while, they'll have a good thing going on down there. But if USC gives him a call, what with all the talent on their roster, you think he won't head out West?

Southern Cal? Of course. He and his wife are from SoCal. South Carolina? Maybe. Not impossible to win there, but a lot tougher. Like a lot of things in life, it usually comes down to $$$.

The Coogs open 2016 against OU at NRG. So yeah, that would be a monster win for the program.

I'm not a USC fan i'm a UH fan so i want him to stay regardless.

Cincy was easily the toughest opponent we have faced all season. Kiel is an NFL caliber QB.

Just win, baby.

On another note, Cougars landed a pretty explosive player:

Interesting. The highlights only showed offensive plays. I wonder what his defensive play looks like? But it would be nice to have a CB with good hands.

ps I truly hate the Disney Costume mascot. SHASTAs III and IV were my friends and I spent a lot of time with them. Cougar Guard 1977-1979.

That's really cool. I'll bet it was one of those two who scared the crap out of one of the two Baylor cub bears they always had on the sidelines.

We were in Waco watching Houston play Baylor (20-18 Houston if memory serves, but I might be thinking of the wrong game). So one of their cubs got near Shasta's cage and Shasta took a violent swipe through the bars and that poor little cub turned and ran like hell the other way. The stadium was audible with laughter.....lol.

Sucks that Memphis had to go and get their ass whipped by Navy. Nevertheless, i plan on being in attendance this saturday to check out the Coogs, the new stadium and possibly the Texans' next qb prospect in Lynch...even though I'm not that high on him.

Most likely SHASTA III who was the longest serving live mascot. SHASTA IV unfortunately developed Feline Leukemia and died after only a brief period of service. SHASTA V, who I never worked with, was the last to serve as Mascot before the end of live mascots at the University of Houston. I don't know what happened to her.

I should have looked up the more recent history. Apparently SHASTA IV was retired before developing Leukemia due to difficulty handling her.

Also, The University adopted a Cougar housed at the Houston Zoo and has called HIM SHASTA VI though it has not, and will never serve as a traveling Mascot.

My freshman year was 1977.

Oh brother what a comeback with our backup QB leading the way.
Way to go Coogs!

Watching Postma was a bit like watching Johnny Football. That was fun.

The crazy thing is if Adam Schultz didn't tear his ACL in mop up duty a few weeks ago we would have been seeing Postma at WR this year. He was only moved back to QB when Schultz was injured.

Any word on Greg Ward? I was at the game & they were about to bring the cart out onto the field literally a few seconds before he popped up and walked off. Haven't heard anything since.

Herman says Greg Ward should be good to go against UConn this Saturday.

$3 million a year offer from UH. I keep waiting to hear about him accepting it. The longer that takes to happen the worse it's going to be. When Kevin Sumlin was pulling his bullshit and pretending he wasn't going anywhere you could literally see the team starting to unravel before that C-USA Championship game against Southern Mississippi back in 2011.

I really don't want to see another great season end like that with a coach on the sideline pretending he's committed to the program and then abandoning his team before the bowl game. I've always thought Kevin Sumlin was a complete piece of **** for doing that.

So the emergency meeting with the chancellor worked out and we found a way to offer him more money huh? Can't say we're not trying...I hope he accepts, but I know we have at most 1 more year with him before he bolts somewhere else. Pisses me off that we're in this position largely because of the way college football is and the conference we play in..
