2015 Houston Cougars Season

That happens all the time in this defense. All kinds of players make check with me's and it's difficult to follow. That's part of the problem, that type of mistake is not uncommon. The coaching is just bad on defense, I'm really tired of it. The previous two defensive coordinators had these players and similar players playing excellent defense. This guy just flat out sucks.

I'm actually a big time proponent of that style of defense. It allows for reactive audibles that you just wouldn't have time to get called in if they came from the sideline due to the tempo of today's offenses. TCU has been doing this for years with great success up until this year, but that had more to do with an unusually high number of injuries forcing young guys who weren't ready into action.

Having said that, communication is of utmost importance and there has to be a clear structure to the decision making. A CB or LB doesn't get to overrule a S, even if the S is making the wrong call. That's how you end up with two guys in the same place.

Based on what you're saying, I would have to agree that it falls on the coaches to either prepare the players properly for that kind of situation or just scrap it entirely.

Another all out spread zone blitz, beaten again. Shocking.

Why would you blitz 7 with nobody at the mid level to cover mistakes on that type of play? Coming from the same guy that had our 290 lb DE running 30 yards downfield trying to cover tight ends last year. Terrible.

Florida St got absolutely dominated on the sidelines today. In every single phase of the game. There were multiple plays in this game where Houston won the play before the ball was even snapped.

UH players did their part obviously. But the coaching staff did a hell of a job. Just fantastic. Very big day for UH football.

Not to mention the QB threw 4 unforced interceptions. Just horrible throws. One was extremely underthrown, the guy was wide open for a TD. Another was to nobody in particular, he basically threw it to the defender. Another was into double coverage and lofted.

Both teams showed up to play, but Houston was better prepared. Florida State will get better on offense with a change at QB, but they won't win a championship with this defensive coordinator. Nole fans said it last year and they had to bring a consultant in that basically said that our defensive coordinator was putting players in stupid positions. This year, I hope he gets fired. I doubt it though, Jimbo likes him for some reason.

The big key in this game was shutting down Dalvin Cook. Complete domination on their best player. Also, the UH coaching staff dominated the FSU coaching staff.

I guess all the talking heads never bothered to notice that UH had one of the best rushing defenses in the nation this year. They held Navy to 150 yds rushing and shut down Cook today. Thats pretty impressive if you ask me.

I can't say enough about the job Herman and his staff did this season. An injury to the stsrting QB away from an undefeated season. For a team in their initial year inthe program, that's incredible. This team is on the map, now.

Cougars have a lot of new top 300 recruits after our bowl win. 15 if I'm not mistaken. They rank 25 in the nation in recruiting strength. Not bad...

That's debatable. He has to sit out a year so if Herman leaves for UT or wherever after next year then he might regret this transfer.

If Herman doesn't go anywhere then yes it's a very good move for him.

IF UH can start the season in the top 25 (like they should) and has a chance to make some noise and be in the running for the play-offs Herman will not go anywhere. I think this season helped us a lot as far as rankings and stuff for next season. 4-0 against ranked 25+ opponents is something, thats for sure. Not to mention we open up against OU next season. Win that game and who knows how far this team could go.

UH will probably be preseason top 20 next year and have a legit shot at the playoffs if they go undefeated. Despite that, to think that Herman won't attempt to parlay his success into a bigger job is a bit naive.

If UH has another great year next year he is going to have much, much better suitors than South Carolina and Missouri. He's going to have Texas, A&M, and possibly LSU going after him.

If UH does what you're supposing it'd be all the more reason that Herman would then go elsewhere. It would be cash in huge time.

Still don't mean he'll jump ship, especially if he sees that he is successfully making UH a power house again. We could also potentially join the big 12 if we continue to compete and beat power schools.

What ties does he have to UH or the area to keep him here?

As long as TV contracts determine the going rate for conference payouts UH will never be part of the BIG XII.

It's not that they aren't worthy, but they don't add TV sets that the conference doesn't already get, and so they would just be taking a slice of the pie without adding to it.

The BIG XII would only be looking at schools that are outside their current blueprint.

Didn't say he had any ties, just saying some people like to finish things they start.

This is true, however unlikely it would be for him to pass up on millions to secure his family's future

I mean UH did up his contract, he is the highest paid non power 5 head coach. So i guess we will see what kind of man he is after next season, and depending on how the season plays out. I hope he stays, i'm sick of UH being a launch pad for coaches to get power conference head coaching jobs.

?

Does him leaving make him less of a man?

No way a caring family man could leave for a few million dollars a year :sarcasm:

Well you make a commitment to a school, to the recruits you bring in. And i have even heard him say he wants to take UH to greatness, and rebuild the program. So far he has done that, what i mean is we will see if he follows through or chases the money to a power school.

I get the logic here, but didn't the Big 12 just add a team from the Dallas area in TCU? Are you saying that Dallas wasn't watching the Big 12 already?
