2015 Houston Cougars Season

While I might quibble about the #18 ranking, I have no problem with them playing for the Bowl game they got. What I object to is the fact that it's all they were playing for before the UConn loss. The UConn loss didn't matter. And we're supposed to care about every regular season game.

Houston didn't have enough skins on the wall. They finished with the #92 schedule, even after the championship game. That's not good enough.

As mentioned above, this is the same thing that happened to Boise St and TCU.

Houston played their way into the Peach Bowl. If UH wants serious consideration moving forward they must win this game and the Oklahoma game early next year.

You have to play people, and UH's conference doesn't provide enough quality opponents for them to make a case unless they win some really big games out of the conference.

Even a perfect season would not have gotten us into the playoffs. The selectors will always find a way to wiggle out of selecting anyone outside the POWER FIVE, even with losses by those they select. The eye test is flawed when you see what you expect to see.
You are right about even with undefeated season by UH wouldn't gotten to playoffs which was too obvious how they ranked UH prior to UConn loss. And, UH loses to UConn suddenly UH disappear from top 25 so even with win against Navy, UH wouldn't have a chance to come back with high ranking. With win against Temple, they only gave 1 slot higher than previous week. After putting Memphis, Navy, Temple on higher ranking than UH for most of season and after UH beat all of the mentioned Unis, still they do not give more credit to UH. Hello, what is wrong with this picture? I just do not understand why general public and media aren't questioning these committees harder.

The UConn loss really hurts, regardless of what excuses could be made for why it happened. It still shouldn't have happened.

Having said that, UH really got hammered all year in the rankings and there isn't a real reason why. Based on resume, I have them at #11. In the end it doesn't matter. They still got the top non-power five spot. And after the UConn loss, that's all they were playing for.
One of the reason why I am ready pissed about how they ranked UH is that Group of 5 like UH needed to rank higher to get more recognition from general public and media. More recognition brings more attention which helps other Group of 5 in ranking and to take some power away from power 5 gradually and hope eventually help bring balance between Group of 5 and Power 5 conferences in the future. Because right now, I see kids playing bully game and people who are doing this (Committee) supposedly educated adults. But what I know, I am just a dirty old man who like to chase young women's asses.

Count me in the group that agrees that UH got screwed in the rankings all year. The game vs Florida State will be exciting. I see a close game decided by turnovers.

Says who? The same people that just arbitrarily decide who the champions are?

No, says a computer model that connects every team in the country through wins and losses against common opponents. That's just about as unbiased as it's ever going to get.

For argument's sake, here are the teams an undefeated UH would have been competing against for a playoff spot.

Clemson: 13-0 against the #42 schedule
Alabama: 12-1 against the #4 schedule
Oklahoma: 11-1 against the #19 schedule
Michigan St: 12-1 against the #44 schedule

Alabama
Opponent Record: 91-66 (.580)
Wins Against Winning Records: 9

Michigan State
Opponent Record: 90-68 (.570)
Wins Against Winning Records: 8

Oklahoma
Opponent Record: 78-66 (.542)
Wins Against Winning Records: 7

Houston
Opponent Record: 66-90 (.423)
Wins Against Winning Records: 5

+1. As others have mentioned, Navy was as high as #15 this year, Memphis #13! Yet the highest the Coogs could attain after beating Memphis and Navy is #18, and that's after being completely dropped out of the top 25 after their one loss.

Bottom line. The committee does not believe in Houston. Or really any non-power 5 team. Either play and win non-conference games like the Oklahoma game, or join a P5. There is no third direction.

This is a circular argument. You can't play quality opponents if you define quality as those who will not play you. The system now penalizes teams for not playing against POWER 5 schools who all play each other. This predetermines the schedule and strength of schedule to exclude anyone not already in the incestuous club.

UH add another recruit WR Tyrie Cleveland. Ohhhhh Yyyyyyeeeessss. Here comes Coogs. Watch out.

Receiver Tyrie Cleveland, the No. 60-ranked prospect in the class of 2016, has become another jewel in the crown for Tom Herman's American Athletic Conference champion Houston Cougars.

Another guy who shunts several offers from big name schools.

Best recruiting class ever for the Coogs, most likely.

I like it.

Bowl game tomorrow, can't wait to see our Cougars in the National spotlight against one of the Nations power houses. This is our time to shine, and this could help our recruiting class majorly if we win !

Good luck tomorrow, I hope y'all lose. It should be a good game. FSU has elite talent but only above average coaching on defense. I expect a Herman offense to put up points against us.

This game should be interesting. I don't really have a handle on which way it will go. If UH can corral Cook (not an easy task whatsoever) then they have a really good shot. That said, FSU has athletes on defense that UH hasn't seen all year. I think this could be a close, low scoring game unless Cook goes off in which case I think UH gets blown out (unfortunately).

This man is confident ...

Coogs lead 7-0. I hope blow these cocky fuckers out.

Both teams talking ****, which is normal.

Anyway, Houston is going to be able to move the ball all game. Charles Kelly, our defensive coordinator, is bad against teams that spread it out and go tempo. I've wanted him out since early last year.

Yeah sucks your starter got hurt, looked like a broken foot to me.

Or torn achilles.

Houston's been smart. Playing heavy run D and letting some of those deeper routes go with one on one coverage and FSU has been unable to make that work for them. Now with the backup QB, it will only be more effective.

Of course I hope UH wins but honestly, I'm just happy right now that they look like they actually belong in the same stadium/game as Florida State.

Cosentino looks completely overwhelmed. This is going to be rough going for FSU if they cannot at least create the semblance of a threat in the passing game. UH is teeing off on the running game and FSU has consistently failed to make them pay for it through the air.

Maguire is pretty inconsistent as well, although he throws a nice deep ball. Next year we will have 2 good options at QB.

Maguire lost a lot of his arm strength, which is basically is only strength as a passer. Consentino isn't ready at all. The defense isn't well coached enough for this type of offense.

It's not looking good for FSU, I don't know the recipe of success with these limitations. Jimbo is excellent at adjusting at halftime though, so who knows.

That all may be true, but the story of the game is -6 yards rushing for Florida St. and the turnovers. As long as UH can take away Cook, they have a real chance. It forces FSU to play a game they're not comfortable with.

I'd expect a lot of screens and draws from FSU in the second half. Gotta make Houston pay for being so aggressive.

Defense is playing well but the Cougars are letting them hang around too long. Houston needs to get into the 30's while they hold the Seminoles down.

This is what I'm talking about. Needed 7 instead of 3 in that last scoring drive. 24-17 isn't anything to get excited about when there are still like 12:00 left

That's Ramsey going rogue right there. The S always makes the call in that situation. No reason why a CB should think he can overrule him and just freelance.

That happens all the time in this defense. All kinds of players make check with me's and it's difficult to follow. That's part of the problem, that type of mistake is not uncommon. The coaching is just bad on defense, I'm really tired of it. The previous two defensive coordinators had these players and similar players playing excellent defense. This guy just flat out sucks.
