What Mallett brings as a (full-time) Starter

Don't tell me Rick Smith is going to be given a bye on putting together this team. It takes more than 22 months to put together this Texans team. I guess Rick had no say in picking the head coach. He really is smart in that he has no say in anything and therefore can never be blamed for anything. We have been saying for over 3 years that this team is SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

It would actually turn out to be hilarious if the divide in the locker room was actually caused by Mallett and not OB.

And I don't mean that in defense of OB. He's the one who wanted Mallett here, so he is responsible for the result.

While I can see that, it doesn't explain our piss poor defense

It just goes to show a fundamental difference that a good QB can elevate his offensive squad, but the best defensive player in the league does not have that same impact on his own squad.

Not only were the Texans defense out-coached, but professional players should, at the very least, understand basic tackling concepts and angle of pursuit. That stuff is drilled in little league football. Even J.J. cannot inspire those players around him to act like professionals.

A team is NOTHING without a competent QB.

Bit but mallet throws harder than any qb in the history of the game. He shatters finger bones on every pass. Don't believe me just ask all the mallet haters.

Have you gotten your list of people to apologize to that you insulted and threw mud at behind your defense of Mallet yet?

Your boy didn't even last 8 games with this team.

Mallet's gone, we got a QB that couldn't make it in Cleveland, and we're bringing back Yates. Don't be surprised if Yates is starting at some point. Not that Yates is that good, just that Hoyer is that bad.

what mallet didn't bring to the texans:

Wasn't saying anything other than of all the players and coaches who contributed to what is being called one of the worst, most embarrassing loses in the history of the franchise, the back-up QB got cut for missing the team plane. Think about that for a minute and tell me this organization isn't a train wreck.

Right. He was cut because he couldn't even meet the bare minimum as a teammate and employee, not because he sucks or contributed to the embarrassment on the field. As bad as the team, the organization appears, you just can't allow the immature BS Mallett was pulling to continue or whatever is left of the team and locker room would implode.

HERB'S CROW HASH

4 or 5 crows
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can chicken broth
1/4 c. butter
Salt & Pepper to taste
Juice from 1/2 lemon
8-12 oz. sliced mushrooms
Flour
1 bay leaf
Rice or toast

THE MARINADE:

1 pt. vinegar
1 pt. water
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper

Skin the crows. Cut away any fat. Cut bird in half. Mix marinade. Pour over crow in glass container for 24 hours in refrigerator. Discard marinade. Boil crow in a pot with water, 1 bay leaf. Remove meat from bone, slicing it against the grain. In a large fry pan heat butter, mushrooms and add chicken broth, lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 20 minutes. Thicken with flour. Serve over rice or toast. Serves 4.

My boy? Just shows you're lack of compression skills.

Have you gotten your list of people to apologize to that you insulted and threw mud at behind your offensive onslaught of Clowney yet?

Never liked mallet. Never thought he WAS a good qb. Just wanted him to have a chance to develop since there was no other qb on this team with unanswered questions. How'd Hoyer look in that last game? You happy that turd is the starter?

man the Texans are so strict what was the reason he missed a flight ok big freakin deal maybe he did get stuck in traffic and least he made it there isn't that all that matters I wonder what happened ..???? I wonder if he hada house here I betcha it was I-45 had to be LOL or maybe I-10

And I have no issue with that whatsoever. I have an issue with this team and organization sucking donkey ass, and so far their answer to it all, the only thing they have addressed to do differently, hold accountable and improve is cut the immature backup QB. Oh, and cut one kicker who missed PAT's with another kicker who misses PAT's. These guys are a joke.

Can't argue with that. We're staring into the abyss that is the Texans organization. It's both disturbing and hilarious.

But he hasn't JUST missed a flight. This looks to be another example in a string of screw-ups this season, possibly going back to last season.

You don't tell the GM you'll never be late again and then show up late AGAIN. Mallett is not a man of his word.

Traffic be damned. No one else missed the flight despite Houston traffic.

It doesn't matter who plays for the Texans. Without a winning program and coaching staff they will never be good.

Well, aren't you a Pharisee to my Publican...
No. The Pharisee wouldn't have a problem with the ..., just the word. Better to properly describe it as "plays poorly" than to use or even imply the vulgarism. Words are not vulgar, but the heart that misuses them are.

This is getting into a theological discussion so it would be nice to have a category for this along side or as a sub-forum in the NSZ specifically for theology. I will go no further here.

What's the phrase I'm looking for...

Don't judge other people because they sin differently than you do

Although in this case, the word sucks isn't sinning. It's just you setting up a false narrative of decency so you can humblebrag about your spirituality while looking down your nose at the everyone else.

Not really. I used a turn of Biblical phrase that most everyone understands about being pompous. Nothing you said in your reply would be in danger of being called "theology".

The word comes from a perverted sexual act, but is rarely used for that. Thus a vulgarism. There are sufficient words in the English language (even Americanized) that it's use is not needed. I am not judging others. I am indicating that there is no need for using vulgarity where it is not describing THAT vulgar act. And that, not my judgement, but the Lords where he has made it CLEAR.

I grew up in a different generation which retained shame both where appropriate and in some cases where it was not. I miss it in this generation which not only has no shame, but relishes and celebrates shameful hearts and acts.

It was used by vacuum salesmen long before being used to describe a sexual act. You just have a perverted mind

From Aaron Wilson:

"It was always something with that guy, you just couldn’t count on Ryan to be here on time, to work hard and to do what everyone else is required to do,” said a Texans player speaking on condition of anonymity. “None of us are surprised that he’s gone. That had to happen. I wouldn’t say what he did was a distraction, but you have to have accountability and this was obviously the final straw for the organization. Good luck to Ryan wherever he winds up, but we’ve got our own things to work on. We’re trying to win some games.”

So as I saw earlier in the thread from per-Madonna sources (which could have been a typo and may have actually been pre-Madonna sources, namely Cher) you have to BE a superstar before you strut around and take the superstar privileges. :)

Joking aside - It is unfortunate Mallet may have everything you look for in a QB size arm strength etc. etc., but seems the ultimate problem comes down to missing something between the ears that is holding him back or maybe just a poor work ethic and propensity to par-take of to much of what an NFL lifestyle can bring. (Not being preachy at all... sign me up for the NFL lifestyle :))

Strange that the comments don't mesh with how O'Brien spoke publicly of Mallett late last year before starting him over Fitz.

Whether he was "promised" the starting job, we'll never know. I imagine the writing was on the wall for him when Hoyer was brought in at a higher salary. Whether he was always petulant (a la Ryan Leaf), or only when he was rejected as the starter will be the question for any team looking at him now.

I wish him well. He had no part in last Sunday's debacle, though he had a similarly poor performance against a better Falcons team. If Hoyer & Mallet only had to go after 3rd string, prevent defenses, the Texans would be a playoff lock.

Ex-Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett eligible for $1.47 million in termination pay By Aaron Wilson on October 28, 2015 at 8:21 AM

Although the Texans terminated former backup quarterback Ryan Mallett’s two-year, $7.005 million contract Tuesday, he’s eligible for $1.47 million in termination pay for the remainder of his Paragraph 5 base salary under the NFL collective bargaining agreement.

That still counts against the Texans’ salary cap.

It’s a one-time mechanism where Mallett can file for the remaining 10 $147,058 game checks, which includes being paid for the Texans’ bye week. Mallett was already paid $1.029 million for the first seven weeks of the season in game checks, in addition to $437,500 for seven per-game active roster bonuses.

Mallett forfeits the remaining $562,500 available in per-game roster bonuses, which could have netted him up to $1 million if he had been active and on the roster for every game.

The Texans guaranteed $1.75 million of Mallett’s $2.5 million base salary for this year, but they have no financial commitments or dead money for 2016 to Mallett with his previously scheduled $2.5 million in base salary and $1 million per-game active roster bonus now off their books.
