Texans Training Camp 2015

OB did the logo thing last year too. I'm not sure why he does it, but it seems goofy because the logos are on for the 1st preseason game.

It's not a play, though; it's the fight that took place after Hilliard blew up some rookie safety.
I just reviewed the series of photos again and the one I mentioned appears to me to be in "play action" not fight. I compared those to others prior to my post and still think the one I referred to was not a fight scenario. If you were there and saw what happened, ok.

Maybe this has been explained before, but why do the Texans wear logo-less helmets in practice?
Pay me millions a year, but make me earn the logo before it can be put on my helmet......Millions, logo, millions logo yeah we you can keep your logo until week 1.[/QUOTE]
Feels like a "because I'm the daddy, that's why" thing to me.
It's not like they aren't collecting a check from the Texans during camp.

it's totally unnecessary.

Coaches are always looking for ways to motivate guys. I just see it as another motivational tool. It probably doesn't mean much to established guys but as a young guy working to make the team and just suiting up for pre season and getting that decal has got to give you a little extra juice.

And for some older guys it may be a reminder, like hey...you haven't made this team yet.

I don't have an issue with it at all. Coaches do all kinds of little things to motivate guys and send messages.

What if the players like it and think it a decent thing to buy into? It does no harm in the meantime.

What if the players hate it and think it is demeaning? It does do harm in the meantime.

Why paint by question a one sided scenario?

I don't think it's either in any significant way.

You actually think this could take away from a player's performance? A professional's performance? A professional you want on your team?

Spare me the idealistic generic indignation. I can apply those same questions to every HC ever's demeanor and practices. A real professional you "want on your team" would give 110% for any of them.

Doesn't freakin' work that way.

You're going to apply helmet decals to every HC ever's demeanor and practices? Knock yourself out.

If this is a negative for any player then they may need to shuffle their priorities. If it boosts even one player for even one practice then it's the tiniest of bonuses. If it does none of the above then it's just neutral, and ok.

I'm trying to pump this thing up as much as I'm trying to tear it down.

Texans All Access: Training Camp

Wow. We are already 10 days into training camp. Can you believe it? I guess it's true; time flies when you're having fun.

Training camp is a lot of things. It's fun, hard work, exhausting, beneficial, and exciting. A lot of work goes into it, and not just by players and coaches, but also from the grounds crew, the equipment staff, and many others.

Our television department recently put together 'Texans All Access: Training Camp', a 30-minute show which aired this past Sunday on KTRK ABC-13 in Houston, giving fans an inside look at all that goes into training camp, as well as an up-close look at what's happened during the first week and a half of camp.

From interviews with the team to mic'd up players to autographs with fans to wonderful camp timelapses to practicing in Richmond, VA against the Washington Redskins, this in-depth show gives Texans fans the opportunity to experience training camp like they never have before.

You can watch the show in four parts below...

OB said that this will win or lose games for them?
I don't know if he addressed this at all in any way. I just know that it was done. And if he did it without thinking it would help the team win, it's only more of a head scratcher.

I'm sure it was done to have any kind of positive effect.

In the Air Force, you have to earn the right to wear U.S. Air Force on your chest. We still got paid. I don't see the issue here. Earn your stripes.

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL
Eager to see two rookie WRs Jaelen Strong (third round) and Keith Mumphery (fifth). Both have flashed since camp began.

If you asked me to pick an undrafted Texans FA to make roster, I'd say SS Corey Moore (Georgia). Impressed everyone since he got here.

Young players I'm eager to see against 49ers: ILB Max Bullough, WR Alan Bonner, QB Tom Savage, SS Andre Hal, SS Corey Moore, among others.

Whoa!! Duane Brown has been moved to Guard!! Who the hell is gonna play LT?!?! ( :sarcasm:) Is it too much to ask the NFL to, at a minimum, know a bit about a team before they air a show? I see this all the time with these guys. About the 5:20 mark. It's pathetic that the narrator thinks one of the top 5 LT's in the game is a guard.:gotexans1

Those guys have heard they play football in flyover country, but they just can't bother to spend time on it.

Neither do I. This won't win or lose a game for the Texans. Just makes me wonder why the head coach thinks it will.

I doubt he thinks this alone will help win games, but as a part of the culture he is trying to establish I am sure he thinks it is a piece of the puzzle that can help.

Deepi Sidhu @DeepSlant
Also not practicing is TE Ryan Griffin who also missed some time in Richmond with an undisclosed issue. #TexansCamp

LB Mike Mohamed returns to practice today. RB Jonathan Grimes is not practicing. #TexansCamp

Not every year you didn't.

"Sorry Airman, you did great on the last deployment, but you've got to earn those stripes back before we let you on this one."

:spit:

I AGREE, MAYBE DO IT TO ROOKIES AND FA GUYS BUT TO GUYS LIKE WATT, CUSHING, FOSTER. BROWN ETC....... I MEAN COME ON. Damn caps

Sounds like Mallett's doing well today and Hoyer having a rough go of it. Although, Mallett's with the ones today. Hoyer's with the twos

You think an NFL veteran free agent worth his paycheck is worried about helmet decals?

You keep on lacing your questions with little rhetorical landmines "worth his paycheck" etc. C'mon. NFL players on the whole are prima donnas. They'll go somewhere else to have Skittles on the sidelines or whatever freakin' whim strikes them. Yeah, a reputation for chickenshit will weigh against a team. This would be a piece not a sole thing that would create that reputation. This stuff all sounds good whenever a new coach comes in just because it's different. A lot of it is not good for the long haul.

OB gets no choice in the matter on preseason games, that's NFL rules.
I know. That's why I thought is was a little goofy. The players are going to get the logo anyway, so why make them "earn" them for two weeks?

Eh, maybe it saves them a few bucks not having to replace them come game time. lol

You think an NFL veteran free agent worth his paycheck is worried about helmet decals?

Most of them don't want to do training camp & OTAs anyway. If they're going to have to deal with being treated like HS players... yeah, I can see it.

Helmet decals (or lack thereof) are chickenshit?

Now helmet decals equates to being treated like high school players.

So who's making this out to be more than it really is here? Get a grip guys. It's just a little camp thing. No more, no less.

Pitchforks over there -->, torches over there <---. Breathe in, breathe out. Season's almost here.

Sounds like Nix, Hilliard, Cush, Washington and Mallett are a few having good days today

Really hoping Nix comes around. If he can show his Notre Dame form we'll have a fairly formidable group of DT's and defensive line as a whole.

I tend to believe something along these lines. I doubt the players who don't need this kind of simple motivation care nearly as much as we think they do about it. On a few of them it probably works, On a few of them it probably is a bit annoying (but they have NFL salaries and the toys those buy to take their mind off of the "pain") and the majority (I bet) don't really care one way or the other.

Hey Vince, that hot sun is really bearing down on me today. Would you mind standing in front of me for awhile?

Signed,
All the Texans players
