2nd round DJ Swearinger

"I can confirm that report."

Looks like PDS is telling everyone not to believe the conflicting reports.

PDS and Rapoport aren't going to throw this out there if they aren't confident in their information. This trade is happening.

For those of you saying that Swearinger is a valuable player: Of course he is, that's why a team will trade for him.

It comes down to this: Crennel has been running defenses a long time. He knows what he wants his defense to be, and Swearinger isn't part of that vision.

On another note: The Texans 2013 draft. Wow.
If true this is going to weaken our already bad run D. Sure we got Wilfork but we still don't have ILB's to tackle anyone.

Trading Swearinger weakens our bad run defense?

Brian Cushing had 72 tackles, 15 assists
Mike Mohamed had 67 tackles, 12 assists
Akeem Dent had 38 tackles, 10 assists

Swearinger had 73 tackles, 22 assists.

How many missed tackles did they all have?

Ok, that is supposed to impress me how?

If the the safety is making most of the tackles, that should you something right there.

Look, even I admit he's got a nose for the football, he makes first contact, and as long as someone is there to finish up, that's fine!

But when it comes time that he needs to make an open field tackle, which a good safety will do . . . he doesn't. I lost count last season of all the times the opposing QB would dump it off to a RB in the flat behind the LOS, and there's Swagg, trying to knock the ball out instead of wrapping him for a loss, and the guy scoots for 1st down.

If I chugged a beer every time I yelled "GODDAMMIT SWEARINGER!" at the tube last season, I'd still be one drunk motherf'cker.

Exactly! When put in position to succeed, majority of the time he failed. I had hoped he would make the 2nd year leap, but he never did. He's got highlight reel on the brain and can't be trusted to just do his job

It's been wild following this team during the off-season. I don't think we've ever been this active. Kinda nice to see us taking a more cutthroat approach to how we build a team. We've lacked that for years.

As for Swearanger, I agree with those who say that the guy has shown flashes of talent, but is massively inconsistent. Trading him would be a smart move.

I don't agree, it's not like we will get a 1st-2nd round draft pick for him. We will get a late rounder, and I doubt that pick will help us more than DJ will next season. We need safety depth if anything, and I don't think S Stevie Brown is any kind of answer at safety for us.

About the only trade that would make me extremely happy is if we traded him to the Bears for Martellus Bennett. Instantly give some strength to the TE position. I think Bennett wants a new big contract though

Love the new approach, hopefully this approach extends to the warroom.

I would take a 3rd for Swag in a heartbeat and if there use it to pick Amos. Amos is a heady sure tackler who can cover the backend or drop down and cover the slot.

Is the concern the stupid penalties? or his coverage?

I am not sure why we would move him if we have no replacement. He seemed to be good at causing turnovers. I doubt anyone will really give us more than a 6th for him.

with the amount of time he was pulled last year, I think maybe he was blowing assignments...

And perhaps he doesn't really fit what Crennel wants in a SS

He's playing a hybrid position practically created by Wade Phillips. He's was drafted to be LB/SS... Emphasis on the LB. most defenses don't value those players so highly.

Looks like Crennel wants the emphasis on SS, he may actually want a safety more interchangeable with a FS or even CB... More like Glover Quin, less like Bernard Pollard.

They probably want to move him because it's not fair to him to bench him when he could very well start for teams that value what he does bring.

Sounds like we should trade him to Denver.

A source (totally unverified) told me the Texans caught him and the Clown with Thorn's Special Miracle Grass, and apparently they are bad influences on each other.

Take that for what it's worth...

Best analysis I've heard so far. I remember Wade trying to use Quin in that hybrid position, but he didn't do so well as a box safety. If DJ is truly being shopped, I believe it's more of a lack of fit in the defense.

I just would have wished they resigned Kendrick or Manning if they are truly letting DJ go. (I guess they do still have a chance at resigning Manning, but you figure it would have done by now if they really wanted to).

They did try to re-sign Lewis before they signed Brown, and Manning is still a possibility even tho Swag ain't gone yet

That's utterly and completely untrue.

We all know Thorn don't share. When's the last time Thorn offered even a slice of mango to somebody.
:stirpot:

There's a reason Manning ate into Swearinger's play time, and even stole a few couple starts. I've got two busted coverages off the top of my head that lead to walk-in touchdowns, and the only reason I remember them is because they were the same damn play in consecutive weeks.

Swearinger's a very talented football player, but he has zero discipline. Going off-script is fine with Polomalu's instincts and ridiculous amount of film study. Being a hot head who doesn't actually seem to know the route trees and assignments - makes him a potential playmaker and guaranteed liability.

If we can get a pick (any pick) we have a chance to upgrade our team.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. It's too bad, too! When he was drafted, I thought we finally found ourselves a true ballhawk.

Turned out he's just all hawk and no ball.

Get off my damn lawn.

a bit ...literal aren't we?

Rams new RB and #10 overall pick Todd Gurley did a Q&A on Reddit. Someone asked him, "Who is the hardest tackler you ever played against?"

He answered, "It's a tie. Jadeveon Clowney and DJ Swearinger"

@jungleboi_swaggg

One heck of an opportunity #texannation I appreciate everything and the opportunity and memories!! It's time for a new chapter and the defining moment of my career!! So long #HOUSTONTEXANS

DJ posted this on his instagram account. maybe the texans cut him.

Someone posted he got traded to Cleveland. Can't find anything on it though.

In the alternative, it could be a response by an inebriated player to the rumors he is being shopped. The timing (before 5AM) suggests this possibility. But to be fair, the response looked cogent.

For what it's worth his rotoworld page says on 4/29 that he's struggling with the teams "off field culture "

5AM updates. Not fitting into culture. Expect something non-football related from this weekend to pop up on the news today...

- The Texans have continued to look for suitors for safety D.J. Swearinger and there is a thought everything will be done to find him a new team before OTAs arrives. If the Texans can find a trade partner, it would be expected to be a player for player deal with the NFL draft already passed. What Swearinger can bring in terms of value is still yet to be seen and it will be interesting to watch how this plays out.

Looks real. A few media outlets picked up on it already. I'll be surprised if we don't have an answer between 10-noon.

I just noticed the time stamp on the post. 12:44 AM isn't nearly as concerning as 2-5 AM when there is little good going on and numerous ways of getting into trouble.

But we'll see.

I would doubt very seriously that Swag would have been outright cut (not traded) at this early date.............unless he was recently involved in something egregious.
