Playoffs

Hall of Fame
Mock draft 1.0: Daniel Jeremiah | NFL Media analyst

PICK NO. 1 TB JAMEIS WINSTON QBFLORIDA ST. Winston has some immaturity issues, but he has ideal size, arm strength and touch. He’s ready to play Day 1.

PICK NO. 2 TEN RANDY GREGORY OLBNEBRASKA Gregory is tall, long and explosive. The Titans could take a QB here, but instead opt to add more punch to their pass rush .

PICK NO. 3 JAC DANTE FOWLER, JR. OLBFLORIDA Fowler has an explosive burst and strong hands and plays with fanatical effort. He’ll be a great fit for Gus Bradley’s defense.

PICK NO. 4 OAK KEVIN WHITE WRWEST VIRGINIA The Raiders need to surround their young QB with weapons. White is a complete receiver, and his competitiveness is off the charts.

PICK NO. 5 WAS LEONARD WILLIAMS DEUSC The Redskins need help in several areas, and Williams would be a steal at this spot. He can dominate versus the run and pass.

PICK NO. 6 NYJ MARCUS MARIOTA QBOREGON A new regime usually means a new signal-caller. Mariota needs some time to develop, but he could be the answer to the Jets' QB woes.

PICK NO. 7 CHI SHANE RAY DEMISSOURI Ray is a dynamic edge rusher, something the Bears desperately need.

PICK NO. 8 ATL AMARI COOPER WRALABAMA Roddy White isn’t getting any younger, and Cooper would be a perfect complement to Julio Jones. Roll Tide!

PICK NO. 9 NYG DANNY SHELTON NTWASHINGTON The Giants need to get stronger up front, and Shelton is a force vs. the run. He would slow the rushing attacks in Dallas and Philadelphia.

PICK NO. 10 STL TRAE WAYNES CBMICHIGAN ST. It’s not a great year for CBs, but Waynes is intriguing. He has good size, speed and agility. His physical style will appeal to Jeff Fisher.

PICK NO. 11 MIN DEVANTE PARKER WRLOUISVILLE This pick would reunite Parker with his former college quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater.

PICK NO. 12 CLE T.J. CLEMMINGS OTPITTSBURGH This class has depth at the tackle position but lacks elite prospects. Clemmings isn’t sexy, but he’ll be a solid Day 1 starter at RT.

PICK NO. 13 NO ARIK ARMSTEAD DTOREGON Armstead has similar size to Calais Campbell and is a better player out of college. He would perfectly complement Junior Gallette and Cam Jordan.

PICK NO. 14 MIA BENARDRICK MCKINNEY ILBMISSISSIPPI ST. McKinney has the size to bang inside with linemen and plenty of speed/athleticism to make plays in coverage.

PICK NO. 15 SF MALCOM BROWN DTTEXAS Justin Smith might’ve played his last NFL game, and Brown is a plug-and-play prospect. He has excellent strength at the point of attack.

PICK NO. 16 HOU ANDRUS PEAT OT STANFORD I was a bit disappointed after studying Peat, but he has excellent size, quick feet and football smarts. He’s young and should continue to develop.

PICK NO. 17 SD EDDIE GOLDMAN DTFLORIDA ST. Goldman could play NT or DE in the Chargers defense. He is a powerful run defender and plays with high effort.

PICK NO. 18 KC DORIAL GREEN-BECKHAM WROKLAHOMA Andy Reid isn’t afraid to take a chance on a player with off-field issues (Michael Vick). DGB has as much talent as any WR in the draft.

PICK NO. 19 CLE DEVIN SMITH WROHIO ST. Smith should continue to climb as we head into the postseason. He has elite play speed, and the Browns need to get bigger at the position.

PICK NO. 20 PHI LANDON COLLINS SSALABAMA Collins would be a huge upgrade in Philadelphia, and his physical play style fits the NFC East.

PICK NO. 21 CIN BUD DUPREE OLBKENTUCKY Dupree is a raw prospect, but he has big-time edge speed and double-digit sack potential.

PICK NO. 22 PIT GEROD HOLLIMAN FSLOUISVILLE The Steelers need to address the safety position, and Holliman is a ball magnet. He isn’t reliable in run support, but his playmaking ability might entice the Steelers to reach for him.

PICK NO. 23 DET P.J. WILLIAMS CBFLORIDA ST. The Lions could upgrade the O-line, but there won’t be many good options at this spot. Williams is a physical CB and should be able to play right away.

PICK NO. 24 ARI ELI HAROLD DEVIRGINIA The Cardinals' secondary is loaded, but they need to add some talent/depth to their pass rush. Harold has good burst, quick hands and versatility.

PICK NO. 25 CAR BRANDON SCHERFF OTIOWA Scherff is a mauling run blocker and would be a big upgrade in Carolina.

PICK NO. 26 BAL DEVIN FUNCHESS WRMICHIGAN Steve Smith is not going to play much longer. Some evaluators like Funchess as a tight end, but I prefer him on the outside, where he can use his size/strength to overpower defenders.

PICK NO. 27 DAL MELVIN GORDON RBWISCONSIN The Cowboys have a big decision to make about re-signing DeMarco Murray. Gordon would be a nice fallback plan.

PICK NO. 28 DEN LA'EL COLLINS OTLSU Collins is a very physical run blocker, and some of his issues in pass protection would be covered up with the move from tackle to guard.

PICK NO. 29 IND VIC BEASLEY OLBCLEMSON The Colts would spark their rush by using Beasley on passing downs until he gets physically strong enough to play on early downs. He has an ideal mentor in Robert Mathis.

PICK NO. 30 GB DENZEL PERRYMAN ILBMIAMI Perryman would be a great fit and give the Packers' inside linebackers much-needed youth and athleticism.

PICK NO. 31 NE TODD GURLEY RBGEORGIA Bill Belichick isn’t afraid to buck the trend. Devaluing the running back position? Not when it comes to a player like Gurley.

PICK NO. 32 SEA PRESTON SMITH DEMISSISSIPPI ST. Smith is a versatile defensive lineman and plays with great effort, leverage and quickness.

I'm not a big fan of Jeremiah, but his picks make a lot more sense than Kiper's or McShay's

I kind of hate him now for having White so high. :bat:

I've been thinking the raiders will go white or Leonard Williams.

God I hope we don't draft Peat. I was more than disappointed when I watched him. He's not a first round talent IMO.

i think we could do better than peat.
Pj williams, Landon collins, scherff would all be better i think.
but its always hard to do mocks.

i personally dont mind jeremiah, even if he goes with something different he always givens a decent opinion of why, and thats all you can ask for in mock drafts

No way Mariota goes in 1st round... I predict these draft gurus will begin talking about his stock sliding by March... As a fan of a team with a need at QB, I wouldn't even consider him until round 3.

The predraft QB bashing has already begun, dale. Way to makeup ground and get ahead of the pack, though.

Would you like to put some money on that?? I love easy money.

Rush LB is a need and this draft has them. Dupree is a versatile, showing up in many 1st round mocks. I have no issue filling OLB need.

It is a need and I have no problem with it, just a new name to me and one I haven't seen mocked to us elsewhere

NFL COMPARISON Jamie Collins

BOTTOM LINE Dupree is an explosive, powerful athlete with a background in basketball. While he's been productive at Kentucky, his tape doesn't always do his potential justice. He must continue to improve as a pass rusher, but his traits are undeniable.
Productive pass rusher whose success stems from his physical gifts and technique. Dupree possesses long arms, a quick burst, the flexibility to turn the corner and an explosive burst to close when the ballcarrier is near. Dupree varies his rushes, lulling opponents to sleep with one speed and surprising them with an occasional extra burst to generate big plays at critical moments.

COMPARES TO: Kamerion Wimbley, Tennessee Titans - Like Wimbley, Dupree has the blend of length and burst to enjoy a long, productive career as an NFL edge rusher. To achieve his full potential, however, he'll need to get stronger in run support.

He is a freakish athlete who moves from sideline to sideline in the same way quality NFL linebackers like Jamie Collins do. That's who NFL.com's Lance Zierlein compared Dupree to as a draft prospect:

As you say, it's a need. It would just sting to go OLB in the 1st in 3 out of 4 drafts. Not to mention the 2nd in the 2011 draft (Reed). Sad.

I would point out that Lance doesn't have a RB going in the 1st round. That would be 3 drafts in a row, if that occurs.

Off topic... why would St Louis take an OT?

Don't they have Jake Long & Greg Robinson? Are they suggesting Robinson will move back inside when Long returns?

Off topic... why would St Louis take an OT?

It could suggest the Rams are considering dumping Jake Long and his $10 million cap number.

Given the success the team has had with running backs taken below the 2nd round, I don't see Rick Smith bucking that trend with Gurley or any RB when A) there are so many other needs, and B) Our last 1st rounder was lost to knee problems. ILB and CB make sense, and both positions fit Rick's tendency to pick defensive players in the top two rounds.

Most of these draftnicks just look at the roster and say, "Oh, they don't have a starting QB? That means they're drafting a QB! Next!" They ignore that Mallet was on IR, and that Savage was a development project who now has a year of development.

Three out of four years, these guys prove that they don't know much about the Texans needs or its GM.

So this would be a Brooks Reed replacement unit?
Dupree is a one trick pony - a situational rusher. In this, he does show some potential; but in all other aspects of the position he is a project. The question that should be asked is, how often, in our defense, is Reed given the OK to pin his ears back and rush? How often is he called on to drop back into coverage, or to set the edge against the run? Dupree's natural position is not Reeds, but rather is Clowney's/Mercilus'. I'm not saying Reed shouldn't be upgraded, but I'm questioning whether Dupree is the one to replace him.

No idea why PJ Williams is falling. If he does last through the end of the first round, you're looking at a steal. He's got Xavier Rhodes written all over him, who was one of the best CBs in the league at the end of last year. Multi positional athlete who found a home at corner with long arms and a natural knack for finding the ball in zone and man.

In the past four games only Revis has a better PFF grade overall, and a better coverage grade. He tops every other corner by a reasonable distance (+11.0 for Rhodes in coverage to +7.4 to Chris Harris Jr as the third best mark). The PFF grade as you all know by now is a play-by-play account of his performance, judging him by what happened on the play, not what the result of it was. If he gets torched deep but the ball was overthrown, he would still be downgraded. If he breaks up a pass but the play is nullified by an unrelated penalty, he will still be credited in grading terms.

Some people have a hard time with the PFF grading, however, so let’s look at his coverage numbers, which on this occasion match perfectly.

He has only allowed 54 yards over that time span. Four games, 54 receiving yards. That’s pretty good. He has given up just seven catches, and no touchdowns over those games, and the passer rating of quarterbacks targeting Rhodes over the past four Vikings games has been just 22.2, a figure bettered by only Richard Sherman league-wide.

Counting interceptions and pass break-ups, Rhodes has actually directly caused more incompleted targets (8) than he has allowed to be completed.

We are talking about a corner that for the last month has been every bit as good as the best in the game.

That's who this guy compares to. A little less long, a little more ball skills.

I agree. I have only watched a couple of his games and in those two games he didn't look like a first round pick to me.

I don't get it either. I've watched many of games of Waynes and Williams and I felt Williams was the better of the two.

Mock draft 3.0: By Daniel Jeremiah |
1 TB
JAMEIS WINSTON QBFLORIDA ST.

I still believe Marcus Mariota is in play for this pick, but I'm going to stick with Winston.

2 TEN
LEONARD WILLIAMS DEUSC

The Titans need more impact defenders and Williams is a special player.

3 JAC
DANTE FOWLER, JR. OLBFLORIDA

The Jaguars need to upgrade the offensive line, but there isn't a candidate worthy of the third overall pick. Adding Fowler would juice up an already solid pass rush.

4 OAK
KEVIN WHITE WRWEST VIRGINIA

Flip a coin, Amari Cooper or White; can't go wrong with either player.

5 WAS
SHANE RAY DEMISSOURI

Washington needs to replace Brian Orakpo and Ray is a dynamic pass rusher.

6 NYJ
TRAE WAYNES CBMICHIGAN ST.

The Jets could easily go quarterback here, but in this scenario I have them upgrading the cornerback position. New head coach Todd Bowles loves to blitz and he can't with the current lack of talent at the corner spot.

7 CHI
VIC BEASLEY OLBCLEMSON

The Bears could look at a number of positions on the defensive side of the ball. They need help everywhere.

8 ATL
RANDY GREGORY OLBNEBRASKA

Gregory needs to add some weight, but he has special tools as a pass rusher. This would be a huge upgrade for the Falcons.

9 NYG
MALCOM BROWN DTTEXAS

The Giants could look to upgrade the offensive line, but Brown is a player who is generating a lot of buzz in personnel circles.

10 STL
MARCUS MARIOTA QBOREGON

The Rams can't rely on Sam Bradford to stay healthy, and Mariota would be a great fit with their current offensive personnel.

11 MIN
AMARI COOPER WRALABAMA

Cooper would be a steal for the Vikings and their young franchise quarterback.

12 CLE
DANNY SHELTON NTWASHINGTON

Shelton is an ideal fit in the physical AFC North.

13 NO
LA'EL COLLINS OTLSU

Collins has the tools to be a functional starting offensive tackle, but he has Pro Bowl potential at guard.

14 MIA
DEVANTE PARKER WRLOUISVILLE

Miami has other more pressing needs, but pairing Parker with Jarvis Landry and Ryan Tannehill would be pretty tempting.

15 SF
BRANDON SCHERFF OGIOWA

Out goes Mike Iupati, in comes Scherff.

16 HOU
JALEN COLLINS CBLSU

Houston could look at an offensive tackle here, but instead looks to add more talent to the secondary.

17 SD
TODD GURLEY RBGEORGIA

Gurley could end up being the best player in this entire draft class, and he would take some of the pressure away from Philip Rivers.

18 KC
LANDON COLLINS SSALABAMA

Andy Reid will address the receiver position in a later round, and instead picks up the top safety in the draft class.

19 CLE
JAELEN STRONG WRARIZONA STATE

Strong answered all questions about his speed with a fantastic 40 time at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. His ball skills are excellent.

20 PHI
BYRON JONES CBCONNECTICUT

Jones put on a show in Indy, but he's much more than a workout warrior. He was a four-year starter at UConn with toughness and smarts. That fits the Chip Kelly profile.

21 CIN
ARIK ARMSTEAD DTOREGON

The Bengals love players with size along the defensive front, and Armstead is a giant with powerful hands and quick feet.

22 PIT
ELI HAROLD OLBVIRGINIA

The Steelers could upgrade the secondary or offensive line here, but they also need to address the pass rush. Harold is a perfect fit.

23 DET
D.J. HUMPHRIES OTFLORIDA
Humphries is arguably the top talent at the tackle position in this draft class. He could hold down the left tackle position, and allow the Lions to kick Riley Reiff over to right tackle or inside to guard.

24 ARI
EDDIE GOLDMAN DTFLORIDA ST.

Goldman has outstanding size and strength. The Cardinals need to add more youth along their defensive front.

25 CAR
T.J. CLEMMINGS OTPITTSBURGH

Protecting Cam Newton must be the top priority this offseason.

26 BAL
MELVIN GORDON RBWISCONSIN

Justin Forsett had an outstanding season, but he's not under contract for next season. Gordon would represent an upgrade, should Forsett depart for another squad.

27 DAL
BUD DUPREE OLBKENTUCKY

Dupree hasn't put it all together yet, but his upside as a pass rusher is sky high.

28 DEN
JORDAN PHILLIPS NTOKLAHOMA

Denver could have several holes to plug following free agency. Phillips is a stout run defender with some upside as a pass rusher.

29 IND
ANDRUS PEAT OTSTANFORD

The Colts need to lower the number of hits Andrew Luck has suffered over the last few seasons. Peat has some rough moments on tape, but he has excellent size, quickness and intelligence.

30 GB
ERECK FLOWERS OTMIAMI

Flowers needs to clean up some pass-pro technique with his hands, but he is a people mover in the run game.

31 SEA
DORIAL GREEN-BECKHAM WRMISSOURI

The Seahawks were a play away from winning consecutive Super Bowls. Green-Beckham is a play-making machine. If he passes the character tests, this would be a great value selection.

32 NE
CARL DAVIS DTIOWA
Davis had an outstanding Senior Bowl week, and his mix of size, quickness and versatility would be very appealing to the Patriots.

I'm starting to hope that Tennessee has given up on Mettenberger and will draft Mariota. The thought of Dick LeBeau getting a weapon like Leonard Williams is kind of scary.

1
TB
JAMEIS WINSTON QBFLORIDA ST.
The Bucs appear to believe that the “Jameis Winston Experience” will lead them back to the playoffs in the near future.

2
TEN
LEONARD WILLIAMS DEUSC
The best player in the draft is the selection, even though the Titans have made noise about taking QB Marcus Mariota.

3
JAC
DANTE FOWLER, JR. OLBFLORIDA
The best combo pass rusher is able to keep his considerable skills in-state, and help the Jags continue to build on defense.

4
OAK
AMARI COOPER WRALABAMA
Raiders consider defense with this selection, but Cooper offers instant big-play ability to help second-year QB Derek Carr grow.

5
WAS

A pass-rushing fiend replaces the departed Brian Orakpo, and gives Ryan Kerrigan a bookend tag team partner.

6
NYJ
VIC BEASLEY OLBCLEMSON
Jets fully addressed secondary during free agency, and now add an edge rusher (and bypass QB Marcus Mariota) to an already strong defense.

7
CHI
SHANE RAY DEMISSOURI
Wins with “get off” and hands in getting to the QB. Bears' rebuild of defense gets a key cog.

8
ATL
TODD GURLEY RBGEORGIA
Surprise! Expected choice of a much-needed edge rusher doesn’t materialize. When Falcons were at their recent best, Michael Turner ate carries and the offense rolled.

9
NYG
MALCOM BROWN DTTEXAS
The Giants pick one of the best DTs available as they continue to build momentum off of a good finish to 2014 and make a playoff push in 2015.

10
STL
MARCUS MARIOTA QBOREGON
Despite the trade of Sam Bradford that brings Nick Foles to town, landing a potential franchise QB at this spot is irresistible for Rams.

11
MIN
DEVANTE PARKER WRLOUISVILLE
Reunion time in the Twin Cities. QB Teddy Bridgewater gets a college teammate as a big-time playmaker on the perimeter.

12
CLE
KEVIN WHITE WRWEST VIRGINIA
White, my top-ranked WR, automatically helps whoever starts at QB for the Browns. With free-agent addition Dwayne Bowe also in town, Cleveland has a nice duo of full-sized WRs.

13
NO
BUD DUPREE OLBKENTUCKY
Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan will find many ways to utilize this talented player, and get big plays out of him on a consistent basis.

14
MIA
TRAE WAYNES CBMICHIGAN ST.
Fins have a good defense, but Waynes makes the pass rush even better with his coverage ability. He tackles well, too.

15
SF
LA'EL COLLINS OTLSU
Whether he plays G or OT, he’s an absolute force. Could easily replace Mike Iupati at guard, and power runs stay in the playbook.

16
HOU
LANDON COLLINS SSALABAMA
The chase of Indianapolis continues. This former Crimson Tide defender has range, and pop when it’s contact time.

17
SD
MELVIN GORDON RBWISCONSIN
Ryan Mathews' departure opens a slot for this three-down sensation. His ability to pass block will make him a favorite of QB Philip Rivers quickly.

18
KC
BRANDON SCHERFF OGIOWA
Kansas City signed Jeremy Maclin in free agency, so the pressure to take a WR here is off. Hard to believe that the top-ranked interior blocker is still available.

19
CLE
DANNY SHELTON NTWASHINGTON
Browns have two first-round picks for second straight year, and now they go big with the youngster from UW.

20
PHI
JALEN COLLINS CBLSU
A safety to patrol the middle of the field might be preferable, but with Landon Collins off the board, Eagles take willowy CB to deal with Dallas WR Dez Bryant.

21

ARIK ARMSTEAD DTOREGON
This long-levered DE’s best football should lie ahead after having recently played both football/basketball for the Ducks.

22

CB is a screaming need for the Steelers, and while this former UW star had issues with the coaching staff that derailed his final season in college, he gets a clean slate in the Steel City.

23
DET
D.J. HUMPHRIES OTFLORIDA
My top-ranked LT in the draft. Humphries will help fortify an OL that must keep QB Matthew Stafford upright for another playoff push.

24
ARI
ELI HAROLD OLBVIRGINIA
A terrific, underrated talent whose stock is rising the closer we get to draft day. With the addition of free-agent Sean Weatherspoon, the Cards jump up the talent on defense.

25

Panthers had the luxury of having Jordan Gross hold things down at LT for a decade. Peat can do the same.

26

Broncos would like to be able to play their offensive linemen at their best positions. Clemmings can play RT now, and allow that process to happen. Protecting Peyton Manning is more important than ever as they make a push for another Super Bowl berth.

CAMERON ERVING CFLORIDA ST.
His move from LT to C during the 2014 season was impressive, and helped him move up draft boards. He gets to grow with QB Andrew Luck, and become what Jeff Saturday was to Peyton Manning in Indy.

KEVIN JOHNSON CBWAKE FOREST
With the loss of Tramon Williams to Cleveland, this smooth cover guy gets the nod over a LB.

ERECK FLOWERS OTMIAMI
The Saints use their second pick of the first round to upgrade the OL. Flowers is a physical blocker who can play RT, and might be used as the guard opposite Jahri Evans in a power tandem at the position.

BRESHAD PERRIMAN WRCENTRAL FLORIDA
With the loss of Vince Wilfork to Houston in free agency, it would appear that a DT would be a priority. In today’s NFL, scoring points is a very big deal, too, and this long, sleek pass-catcher will help QB Tom Brady’s cause.

I've been warming up to the idea of Collins at 16 since we made our FA moves. But I absolutely couldn't pass up Scherff to do so, as according to this scenario.

I think I'd prefer about anyone in that first round to Landon Collins

Fair enough. I'd like to add a very sure tackler who attacks the LOS aggressively and can pursue instinctively at good angles. He plays in space far better than he's given credit for and should look to be a serious nuisance to the intermediate part of the field and sideline-to-sideline for opposing qb's. This especially with the addition of R. Moore to move at range behind him. I really like the levels it would bring our defense with our LB's looking cleaner behind Wilfork & Watt, and a mobile/talented SS in Collins playing in between those LB's and a veteran cover unit of KJ/JJo/& Moore.

I can understand your reasoning, but it basically writes off Swag as a lost cause. I think it's too early for that and I think there are much bigger needs elsewhere

Writing off Swag doesn't matter much to me, I think he's hit his ceiling. He's not value-less, but I'm afraid what we've seen is what we'll get. As for other needs, I'm generally with you in that I still don't think I could personally pass on Parker/Strong/Shelton/Brown/Goldman for Collins, just that I've warmed to the idea that it could be a good pick unto itself should it happen.

Agreed, and if we did take Collins, I'd be disappointed but not upset

Is Charles Davis from Colorado? He needs to put down the bong and back away. We take Landon Collins with Shelton, Scherff, Peters, Goldman, Peat, Jalen Collins, Erving, etc... all still available. In hindsight maybe he should get back on the pipe, this dudes crazy.
