NFL.com Mock Drafts 2015

I've been warming up to the idea of Collins at 16 since we made our FA moves. But I absolutely couldn't pass up Scherff to do so, as according to this scenario.

I'd be surprised if L. Collins is there at 16 & I'd be thrilled to get him. But I'd also be surprised (almost kinda upset) if Mariota falls past 7 & we don't go get him.

I know it looks like the Texans built their QB depth as if they didn't believe Mariota would be in reach... but we should be willing to go up to 8 to get him.

It would take at least our 1st and 2nd, I'd be ok with that

Would you be ok with 2 1sts to move up to 8?

But then it's been said that OB was higher on Petty than Mariota or Winston. Would you be ok with taking him in the 1st?

I'm completely more comfortable with Mallett running this offense than Mariota, would let him pass right on by.

:toast2: cheers on the Collins take, btw.

I can understand your reasoning, but it basically writes off Swag as a lost cause. I think it's too early for that and I think there are much bigger needs elsewhere

I'm not seeing that at all. Just like the Nickel corner is basically a starter, that third safety could be considered one as well. It should motivate Swagg to get better quick...should also have Rahim watching his back. We didn't break the bank on him & after this season wouldn't be a big deal to cut him...

& it's only a three year deal so you could look at Collins as his eventual replacement.

Yes

eh... I'd be more critical but I could live with it.

I see very little difference between Petty & Bortles. I think Bortles should have been drafted mid to late first. I've got a first round grade on Petty... but unless the conversation changes it sounds like he'd be available late second, early third. I'd be more perplexed if they took Petty at 16 after signing both Hoyer & Mallett.

I agree with the third safety, but I think you would want 2 coverage guys as opposed to two in the box guys

edit: reread your post and Collins is not a coverage FS type. He wouldn't be replacing Moore he'd be replacing Swearinger. 1 of them would be sitting on the bench most 1st and 2nd downs

It baffles me that people will still use a 1st on a SS in today's league, regardless of how talented the guy is.

Collins is a tremendous athlete, but there are guys far later in the draft that can play that position in the pros just as well as he can. I don't like downhill players in my secondary. I like a SS who is physical and can tackle, but he has to have more coverage ability than Collins shows. I'll gladly trade some of that physicality for more ability in space.

Adrian Amos (2-3), Ibraheim Campbell (3-4), and Clayton Geathers (4-5) are all capable of performing the same duties that Collins would, and at a lesser cost. Are they as purely talented as athletes? No. But they possess the skills on the football field that would make them just as valuable as Collins.

Give me Amos in the 3rd over Collins in the 1st. Basically the same player except Amos can play slot CB if needed.

I believe Collins is underrated playing in space. What I'm about to type is going to get shat on because the focus will be on one name instead of the entirety of the point, but here goes, Collins is closer to Troy Polamalu than Bernard Pollard when it comes to moving backward, laterally, or turning and running.

I also believe he will be a significantly more impactful player than the next tier at his position.

After Mark Barron I am down on Alabama safties.

Charles Davis Mock Draft 4.0
1
TB
JAMEIS WINSTON QBFLORIDA ST.
The Buccaneers have spent a tremendous amount of resources vetting Winston and appear to be ready to make the top-ranked QB on my board the top selection in the draft.

2
TEN
MARCUS MARIOTA QBOREGON
More and more I'm hearing Mariota is truly a strong option here. Coach Ken Whisenhunt has liked him more than expected during the draft process.

3
JAC
DANTE FOWLER, JR. OLBFLORIDA
With Tennessee passing on USC DL Leonard Williams, the Jags could switch and grab him, but the best combo pass rusher in the draft gets the nod. A wild-card surprise choice here? How about one of the top WRs (Kevin White or Amari Cooper) to aid young QB Blake Bortles?

4
OAK
AMARI COOPER WRALABAMA
An even tougher decision for the Raiders with my top-rated defender (USC's Williams) still on the board, but getting second-year QB Derek Carr his primary target for the next 5-7 years wins out.

5
WAS
LEONARD WILLIAMS DEUSC
The Titans end any discussion of Marcus Mariota landing in Washington, but no tears are shed in DC. The Redskins happily welcome the versatile defender to the nation's capital.

6
NYJ
SHANE RAY DEMISSOURI
Measurables put him behind other top-rated OLBs, but his knack for getting to the QB and being disruptive has the Jets turning his name in on draft night.

7
CHI
KEVIN WHITE WRWEST VIRGINIA
Yes, the Bears need defense, defense, defense, but it could be irresistible to pair this strong, high-flyer with Alshon Jeffrey, and help get QB Jay Cutler in form.

8
ATL
VIC BEASLEY OLBCLEMSON
Edge pressure has been a screaming need for the Falcons since John Abraham went to Arizona, and Beasley is available and fits the bill.

9
NYG
BRANDON SCHERFF OGIOWA
I had DT Malcom Brown here in my last mock, but am back to the Giants taking an OL. Scherff can play tackle, but he's my top-rated guard. The Giants are ramping up their offense for a strong playoff push in 2015.

10
STL
DEVANTE PARKER WRLOUISVILLE
So many ways to go for the Rams. They will strongly consider OL, but Parker's polish and skills on the perimeter help new QB Nick Foles up the Rams' offensive production in 2015.

11
MIN
TRAE WAYNES CBMICHIGAN ST.
The Vikings continue to make strides, fulfilling the image of coach Mike Zimmer by becoming a very good defensive team. Waynes is an immediate starter and producer.

12
CLE
BRESHAD PERRIMAN WRCENTRAL FLORIDA
The biggest riser in mock drafts everywhere, the blazingly fast Perriman replaces Pro Bowler Josh Gordon and will pair with free-agent pickup Dwayne Bowe for a set of full-sized WRs.

13
NO
BUD DUPREE OLBKENTUCK
Another name that is getting more and more mention moving up the charts, Dupree can fit any scheme that defensive coordinator Rob Ryan can conjure up.

14
MIA
LA'EL COLLINS OTLSU
Plays the game like the movie franchise "Fast and Furious." My second-rated guard, he can play offensive tackle, but he might be even more of a force inside and help the Dolphins play with more power.

15
SF
ARIK ARMSTEAD DTOREGON
Fits the 49ers' 3-4 defense to a T. Long-levered and has his best football ahead of him, Armstead plays with excellent leverage for a man nearly 6-foot-8.

16
HOU
TODD GURLEY RBGEORGIA
Surprise! Yes, I know all about Gurley's ACL, but his rehab is is coming along really well, and he is expected to be ready for training camp. He is an absolute force who can run and catch, and he takes care of the ball.

17
SD
ERECK FLOWERS OTMIAMI
There will be a strong temptation to take a running back here, and that makes sense. But the Chargers opt to fortify the offensive line, and Flowers can plug in at right tackle, with D.J. Fluker moving inside to guard.

18
KC
CAMERON ERVING CFLORIDA ST.
Jeremy Maclin's addition has reduced the need to grab a wide receiver here. The loss of starting center Rodney Hudson makes this a need pick. Erving brings plenty of talent, too, having moved from left tackle during the 2014 season.

19
CLE
DANNY SHELTON NTWASHINGTON
Hard to believe that the "The Big Rumbler" drops this far on draft night, but the Browns and their fans would rejoice. Two first-round picks for the second year in a row for Cleveland.

20
PHI
LANDON COLLINS SSALABAMA
We are all still waiting to see just how the Eagles manipulate their way into getting Marcus Mariota, but short of that occurring, Collins fits very well as a big-time thumper with range.

21
CIN
RANDY GREGORY OLBNEBRASKA
This is truly a wild-card pick, but we knew that he would slide because of the failed drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine. Gregory's talent is immense, and Cincinnati is a great landing place.

22
PIT
MARCUS PETERS CBWASHINGTON
Peters has well-documented off-field issues, but he's a gifted cornerback. Coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers organization will help him mature, and he'll give the team a much-needed talent on defense.

23
DET
MALCOM BROWN DTTEXAS
Brown is being mentioned as a top-15 pick, and with the Lions essentially starting over at defensive tackle, Brown becomes a good running mate for recently acquired All-Pro Haloti Ngata.

24
ARI
ELI HAROLD OLBVIRGINIA
The Cardinals continue to get stronger on defense with a lesser-known pass rusher, but one who is definitely talented and versatile.

25
CAR
ANDRUS PEAT OTSTANFORD
Peat is talented and well-schooled in a pro-style offense and also has NFL bloodlines. Peat has a chance to start at left tackle for the next decade.

26
BAL
MELVIN GORDON RBWISCONSIN
Wide receiver is a strong possibility, but the second-best runner in the draft (and best pass protector among RBs) is a tremendous value pick for a team that loves to run the ball.

27
DAL
KEVIN JOHNSON CBWAKE FOREST
With both top running backs off the board, the Cowboys think about defensive tackle here but ultimately opt for a smooth corner that is aggressive in coverage.

28
DEN
T.J. CLEMMINGS OTPITTSBURGH
The Broncos are planning one more run with Peyton Manning, and Clemmings fits right away at right tackle and allows the rest of the offensive line to go back to their best positions.

29
IND
D.J. HUMPHRIES OTFLORIDA
The top left tackle on my board heads to Indy to help protect Andrew Luck.

30
GB
JALEN COLLINS CBLSU
The Packers need to help ease the loss of CB Tramon Williams and keep up with the big-time WRs of the NFC North.

31
NO
BYRON JONES CBCONNECTICUT
It's hard for the Saints to turn down off-the-charts athletes, and Byron Jones fits the bill. He is one of the stars of the pre-draft process.

32
NE
EDDIE GOLDMAN DTFLORIDA ST.

There is strength and power in abundance with this former FSU defensive lineman. With defensive tackle Vince Wilfork off to Houston, Goldman has an excellent shot at replacing him.

I don't see it. As much as I've been politicking for Gurley, I don't see us leaving a first rate C, CB, or DT on the board to take a RB when we still have Foster.

I frankly think Foster and JJo are in pretty much the same boat and this is their last year on the team. If they had any intention of keeping JJo I think they'd have extended him and cut his cap this year. Next year is Foster's last under contract and it's $7 mil is cap savings to cut/trade him. We need future starters at both positions this year rather than waiting to next year IMO. I don't see how NT particularly, but it or C, rate as highly as needs as CB or RB.

Having said that, I doubt they take RB in the 1st even if Gurley was fully recovered and he isn't.

Foster is too big, too important to our offense. We need to hit on a big time RB that can split carries with him and/or take his place if needed. I find it odd that we would take a chance on a guy coming off an ACL, even though Adrian Peterson came out like gangbusters after his. But we all know Peterson isn't human & we shouldn't expect anyone else to repeat.

Foster being on the team is good, but he's not going to stop us from taking a RB early any more than Jjo would stop us from taking a corner, Crick is going to stop us from taking a DT, or Jones is going to stop us from taking a center.

I'm a big fan of Charles Davis work, Gurley should be considered BPA on the board if there w/16th selection. How many times have we heard Rick Smith say, "we take the best player available on our board"? I'm thinking however, he is either gone or a team wants to trade up with Texans, like the Cowboys, to get him. So does Rick ask for a kings ransom again or do Texans wind up with BPA?

Trust me, I was all in on grabbing Gurley in the first until Doc showed us his knee issues. TPN and I went back and forth on that if you recall. And I'm all for getting a Foster supplemental unit (and ultimately replacement) in here ASAP. But since this is J-Jo's last contract year and we have one more year with Foster, that makes getting J-Jo's replacement a higher priority IMO.

If your issue is Gurley's knee, then that's different.

As far as CB having higher priority.... I just don't see that as a reason to use our first round pick on a CB. Imo thats qhy we got Morris, Bouye, & Hal. Maybe not #1 CBs but we did resign Kareem.

I want them to take whoever they believe will have the biggest impact on our chances to win, both in the short & long term. Then I hope I can make sense of there choice. Gurly would make sense, in that he's supposwd to be a feature back. But the knee does concern me, especially with our medical staff's history.

We got Morris, Bouye and Hal to do exactly what they are doing. Play #3, #4 and move up in case of injury.

Not every 5th round pick grows into a 1st round talent if you just water it long enough.

Well sure.

IMO a Rb can hit the field with less time coming out of draft than most positions. Foster and Blue this season and draft a guy like Stuart Woods from Oregon State 2016. A Texas boy that I watched and mocked in his junior 2014 season before he remained in school. 6' and bulked up to 212 pounds. He avg 6 per carry and almost 7 per catch in a pro style offense. New coach Gary Anderson who coached Melvin Gordon @Wisconsin is expected to go to no huddle spread should put Woods in Gordon stat area.

Another Rb/WR is DJ Foster Ariz St. We can use this draft to solidify and get a RB to compete with Blue in '16

I'd take Melvin Gordon at 16 and call it a day. His vision is so damn good and could be the perfect replacement for Arian while learning from him. Seems like a team first guy and no knee problems.

This offense needs to be more potent, period. They had to claw and fight for every yard when Foster was out and Blue was such a drop off. His vision seems under par. I don't think O'brien wants to go through that again and gets a RB early.

why use two picks to accomplish what you can with one?

BL have you not read the comments against me suggesting Dallas would possibly trade up with Houston to get Gurley?

I'd rather Blue get an increased workload to deem him worthy of a starting position if Foster does start to wind down, thus I dont think they pick a RB at 1. Defense is much closer to being elite than the offense so I would expect the pick to be on that side of the ball.

foster is likely gone after this year no matter what.

Blue is not a starter.

Defense is much closer to being elite than the offense? Really???? Take JJ Watt off this defense and what do you have? Neither unit is anywhere close to being "elite". You take the BPA that will start and make the biggest impact.

Sorry missed that. I think that is a real distinct possibility. My own opinion is Gurley is this years Clowney, only difference you know about his acl going through the process. Hence he is fairly valued @ the 16th pick because like Clowney he is that once in a generational kind of player for his position. Here is a draft day scenero, if Jerry can't work out a deal sometime by late Thursday night w/Vikings for Adrian Petterson & Gurley slides into the teens, I would wager a beer he at least calls the Texans about trading picks. Not sure what Rick would ask for or get, hopefully at least this years 2nd +? Not a big fan of Dallas reloading @ RB after low balling DeMarco Murray.

people have been either in total opposition or support of your trade down proposal... not much wishy washy

Or Both.

Trade down - support
Price received - opposition.

That's not wishy washy. Just a search for value.

Why does he continue to have the Texans always pick players he finds to be a disappointment?

Pretty much everyone mocking Texans doesn't have a solid fit for them available or just blows off the pick putting a player we wouldn't likely take. #16 is an awkward spot this year, with most of the first round graded players that fit a need of ours already gone.

Seahawks GM John Schneider only has 16 first round grades this year.

So despite selecting later than Texans both Eagle picks seem better?

I wouldn't be upset with Perriman/Rollins at all

But we'd need to go ILB in 3rd at least

Maybe Dawson or Anthony falls or we go Heeney or Jones

I'm fine with Benardrick in the 2nd, but Agholor at 16th overall? Yeesh. Randy Gregory, Melvin Gordon, Cam Erving, Marcus Peters, etc., all passed up for him? Yeeeeeesh.

I don't see the talent differential between Agholor and Erving or Peters. The Texans aren't taking Gregory. Gordon would be interesting, but I can't see the Texans taking a RB that high. I just don't see QB or RB in the 1st.

Having said that, clearly this mock is worst case scenario for the Texans. Which is why a trade up for a top WR or edge rusher, or down for extra picks is the way to go. Maybe the Texans could drum up a market for Gordon on draft night?

I have no doubt Agholor is going to be a very good pro, tremendously fluid receiver. And I would feel confidant rooting for him as a Texan, if we got him in the second.

I'd prefer Malcom Brown & Devin Smith if I were to cherry-pick this scenario.

Agholor is getting the same kind of disrespect from draftniks as Odell Beckham got last year. I remember people blasting the Giants for taking him #12. That went well.

My only concern on Agholor is that in the film I've seen, he seems to be really shy about blocking... I'm not expecting Kevin Walters but this guy seems really timid

Can't speak for anyone else, I just happen to think Malcom Brown is the better pick for us. Not even really knocking Agholor.

If at #11, Vikings did go CB that would leave both White and Parker on board and at #12 one is taken, no other team between us seems to take WR, we would have the receiver not taken #12. Me likey that.
