Ryan Mallett

I'm extremely excited about Mallet.........not so much about Hoyer.

Not to add any controversy/anxiety to the Hoyer acquisition, but I can't help but being somewhat guarded re. Hoyer after being knocked out of the end of the season with a "shoulder injury" when he was driven into the ground.........of his throwing arm. He tried to throw a week later and could hardly get the ball out of his hand. What did not get widely publicized is that he also suffered a biceps injury during that same play. I certainly hope that Hoyer will be thoroughly checked out medically (including MRI/MRI arthrogram as appropriate) and performance tested before all is finalized. A QB coming back from an ACL can be quite different from a QB trying to come back from some combination shoulder and biceps injuries.

Don't worry. The same guy who checked out Ed Reed for the Texans says Hoyer is good to go.

Team is bringing in specialists for this...

Bean, Walton and drummer Dane Cessac, childhood friends who grew up in Pearland, are assembled at Walton's studio near US 290 and Mangum to drag their arch, keenly satirical, hyper-catchy songs out of mothballs. Those songs, as released on the albums Washarama (1981) and Moo (1985), as well as on various EPs and 7-inch singles, once made the Judy's one of the most popular bands in Texas.

I used to play basketball with a bunch of guys who went to school with The Judy's . That's how I knew who they were .

I notice they pluralized their name with an apostrophe even on the cover of their album. They must have been a bunch of damn fools.

Or you don't get it. It's not plural. It was specifically chosen to designate one band rather than a group of members.

You know that for a fact, do you? The Temptations, the Platters, the Jordanaires, ad infinitum didn't make that hideous error.

Yes - the band was asked about it at the time. But continue with your ignorant rant based on an incorrect assumption. The error is yours in the assumption. There is no grammatical error in what they did.

PS - citing bands doing it the other way is foolish. Oh my God a punk band rebelled against the norm, who'd a thunk it.

Basing their name around the graphic elements and images of the 1950s that pervaded the musical movement at the time and recalled a period of naiveté and hope in the future, The Judy’s (“Possessive,” singer David Bean points out. “We didn’t want it to be plural as if we were each ‘a Judy’”) quickly envisioned a new direction for their musical exploration: a stripped down, minimalist sound that reveled in their limitations as both musicians and humans
From their own damn website.

Sounds exactly like somebody trying cover up a mistake later, after it was pointed out.

Well, Chris, it most certainly is a grammatical error to pluralize a name with an apostrophe.

You mean citing groups with proper names like the Carpenters or the Osmonds? I've told you and you still don't see it. What are you, a ?

"I have no doubt."-Mallett on whether or not he thinks he can help take #Texans to playoffs.

"I want to be here at all costs."-Ryan Mallett on what he told agents about staying w/#Texans.

PDS @PatDStat
Mallett also mentions that it will be good to have the same Head Coach. Didn’t want a third different HC for three straight years. #Texans

“I feel we are building on something here.” Ryan Mallett (says again wanted to be here) #Texans

On why he wanted to be here “I love being a part of this team. I wanted to be here." Ryan Mallett #Texans

“Our football team is base on competition, the quarterback position should be no different.” Ryan Mallett #Texans

Ryan Mallett was committed on staying with the Texans. He absolutely wants to be a Texan. Everything he has done this off-season proves that. I love it.

they say it's a competition for qb, but in reality we'd be stupid to not at least give mallett the first shot with his contract of only 2 years.

infantrycak: The sky is blue.

(Imbecile - fill in blank, hereafter referred to as Others)

Others: It is not, it's really black, our atmosphere makes it look blue.

infantrycak: from our perspective, it is blue.

Others: why do you have to contradict everything? And be so mean about it? It's their mistake they called it blue in the first place. Everyone here sucks and is out to get me. All hail king OB.

I think it would be wiser to give the best quarterback "the first shot".

Good to have him back. I just hope next time he's injured he tells us so we don't watch him miss every throw he makes and lose another must-win game and lose him for the rest of the season.

Ryan sounded really good on the radio... on point, focused, but relaxed and happy. Easygoing interview.

I've really been impressed with the guy. It's almost a 'too good to be true' vibe, which my dad always taught me to never trust situations with that kind of vibe to it. :bubbles:

That said, I'm staying optimistic about Mallett until he proves otherwise. He really looked like he had full command of this offense in that Browns game, and his teammates all had positive things to say about him as a leader.

Just make sure that you're an original owner of a "15" jersey lol

Your dad was a wise man and clearly he watched some Oiler football in his time.

I'm with you. Mallett is the guy until he proves otherwise. We're not going to talk about him costing us a game against the Bungles by not fessing up to how bad his injury was affecting him. I put that as much on OB for not pulling him as I do Mallett for not sitting himself. I understand why both of them made the decisions they did but it's water under the bridge at this point. Learn from it and move on Texans.

There's no doubt in my mind that Mallett will beat out Hoyer. That's mainly based on seeing more of Hoyer than Mallett. My concern is whether the Texans will surround Mallett with enough talent for him to succeed. Another WR. Or three. A TE. A better backup RB. It will be difficult to find all of that in one draft. Just saying.

This is my concern as well. But making the defense dominant and getting a couple of WR's either in FA/trade (Stills/Patterson) draft would help me.

My feelings on the QB situation:

Of all of the players on the team, Mallett is the one player that gives me the greatest reason for hope.

I see Hoyer the way most see Keenum: a backup at best.

Not sure if Savage is ready, but from what I've seen from him so far, it isn't much, but then again he's been holding a clipboard, hard to hold a football with a clipboard in your hand.

Ryan Mallett is the key as to whether 2015 is a good year or not.

I'm going to go on record one more time here to make sure I'm not accused of hindsight in a few months. I think Hoyer is the starter next season and I base that on my perception of how O'Brien views Mallett, which I laid out in detail earlier.

I'm going to agree with Lucky that Mallett wins the job. Which is what bothers me about Hoyer's contract being wasteful.

I'm trying to be optimistic here but I see this as Mallett having to beat Hoyer for the starting role.

It's kind of like when OB said there was a competition for the starting role last year, and he quickly named Fitz as starter right before training camp.

I think it is going to be a Hoyer slight lead, but Mallet given every opportunity to win the job situation. My fear is that it is going to be a mess where one or the other 'wins" the job, but gets pulled after a game or two of suckage. that along with an injury or two leads us to ending 21015 without knowing enough about Mallet nor still having a real starting QB.

BTW, I still not sure how I am supposed to conclude that a really smart guy with more recent experience with a system knows less than a dude three or four years removed from a system that was not entirely O'Brien's to begin with. Bill just likes Hoyer more than Fitzpatrick. We can only wait and see if O'Brien is correct in his assessment.

Nailed two of my concerns. Whoever wins the job having fans turn at the drop of a hat and OB getting (not because of the fans necessarily) ansy and not riding things out to a definite conclusion.

Also don't understand how Hoyer's experience 4 seasons ago with no starts trumps Fitz' experience last year with 12 starts.

I'm a little bit confused by your stance on this. Weren't you one of the folks who were vocal about the fact that Fitz was horrible and O'Brien took too long to get Mallett in as the starter? If I"m right about that, shouldn't that give you some level of comfort that O'brien won't have a knee-jerk reaction to the fans opinion and bail prematurely on the plan? Secondly, with the obviously low opinion you held of Fitz (at least during his time before Mallett was named starter), how is it you're so down on the fact we traded him and brought in another QB (maybe a starter, maybe not) who the Texans obviously feel puts them in a better situation?
