Texans 2015 Free Agency

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter · 21s22 seconds ago
Former Broncos safety Rahim Moore and Texans reached agreement, per source. #Markman50

Great, a definite upgrade.

Now up the ante a little for Wilfork. Sign him and trade a 4th for Stills and I'm happy with the FA period.

We have a priority need at SOLB with the departure of Reed.

That's not so bad either. There are many more OLBs in the draft than serviceable QBs and FSs. And who knows, Clowney COULD be here and functional by the end of the season. Of course, I'm not sure if he plays SOLB, WOLB or both. Is JLB essentially the same as WEAK (side) OLB? Man I can't keep the terminology straight.

Texans should trade for stills. Put him in the slot and let him go to work.

I remember this guy from college, and he's a real burner, that's a 4.38 40, very impressive time, and that's the kind of reciver we neeed to pair woith Hopkins IMO. Wonder if Billy likes him or even knows anyhing about him ?
I'm surprised he was only a 5th roun pik coming out of OK ? I think he had a bad injury (ACL Maybe) the year before he came out ?

I was just perusing PFF's FA listings and noticed Meachem's an UFA. I reckon he could be had fairly cheap.

He'd be a good one too. Seemed like he dropped a lot though. Anyone?

He played in 13 games last year but only started him once. In that game he had 5/79.

I think he just wasn't utilized at all. K had a hard time finding receivers at all I think.

I'm greedy,

Trade a 4th for still/sign S.Johnson in FA and draft McBride or Lockett in the 3rd /PR and Smelter in the 6th.

WR corps upgraded with speed/KR/PR upgraded too. Gone AJ/Martin/Posey. looks like a plan.

Would anyone take Dwayne Bowe ?

Bowe's drop rate has been 10%+ for too long, with a pretty accurate QB who protects the ball. He had 60% in 2013 and 58% in 2014 catchable balls, which is very low and either tells you he's running poor/undisciplined routes or the QB is inaccurate. Alex Smith was rated 2nd in accuracy(79.8%) in 2014.

For me, he's all potential.

Texans want to re-sign FS Kendrick Lewis, who signed for minimum last season. They play 3 safeties a lot

Signing Moore is huge. If we can get Lewis and Moore.......:hurrah::smiliedance::spin::dancer:

I'm really loving what we are doing this offseason so far.

Me too, Wilfork would be the cherry on top. I would up the offer to 2 yrs 12 mil to get him.

I really hope Lewis resigns, he was good last year and seemed to really work well with our CB's. His level of play last season earned him an extension. Moore, Lewis, and Swearinger would make a good 3 safety set.

The Vikings are trying to move Cordarrelle Patterson, but there's A REASON (he can't learn the offense).
4:59 PM - 12 Mar 2015

Patterson pretty much fell off the map last season, eventually finding himself losing offensive snaps to Charles Johnson and Adam Thielen. Going into the off-season, both head coach Mike Zimmer and Patterson's teammate, Greg Jennings, vowed to give their efforts to "fix" what was going on with Patterson. It's even been put out there that former New England Patriots' wide receiver Troy Brown was going to be mentoring Patterson this off-season.

The Vikings gave up a lot of capital to move up in the 2013 NFL Draft and select Patterson, and he was largely expected to make "the leap" last year by many media types and football experts. But, after making a big splash in the season opening blowout in St. Louis, Patterson found the end zone just once over the remainder of the season, and took a big step back both offensively and in his duties as a kick returner.

As I was typing this story, this came over the Twitter from Vikings Radio Network analyst Pete Bercich.

I would like if we got him, he has all the potential in the world. Maybe O'brien could turn him around.

I was big proponent of Patterson coming out in draft but all info says he could not learn Vikings system. If so, how well could he do with Texans? 4.42 with vert 37 # 6'2" 216

I think you get way to hung up on numbers badboy.

The Vikings picked him up to be #1, to play on the outside. I bet OB wants him for the slot. He'd be like Welker with turbo

I'm surprised we haven't gone after Harvin.

stats like injuries and off field issues are information that clubs research so I do also. Not everyone is familiar with players we discuss so I provide. Really irks me when guys name players that are not front page news and expect all to know their position, size and stats.

For example, he had a knee/ankle injury when forced out on a return against GB Nov 2014. This could have impacted his inability to run routes well. Also had a hammy and a chest injury that year.

He was 29th pick 2013

Fair enough but you leave out the stats since college:

2013 - 77 tgts, 45 rec., 469 yds, 10.4 ypc 4 tds.
2014 - 67 tgts, 33 rec., 384 yds, 11.6 ypc, 1 td.

Played in all 32 games.

Patterson was drafted by the previous regime. Never fit into Turner's offense. But, this is a guy who scored 9 TDs in 100 touches as a receiver, runner, and returner as a rookie. Isn't it incumbent upon a coordinator to find a way to utilize a player with that kind of explosive talent? OK, Patterson's not a downfield receiver. Find things he can do...WR screens, reverses, slants. I don't think Patterson is the ultimate answer to replace AJ. I do think that O'Brien could make him a fit, though.

I'm surprised we haven't gone after Harvin.
Really?

Not too many guys out there that would fit what we're looking for in a slot receiver. If OB is making a push (my opinion that he is) you're going to have to deal with a few warts.

HArvin was & is the only guy available that could come close to what Welker did in New England.

But if we're "inquiring about trades (brave new world) we may not have to deal with Harvin's particular warts.

NOOOO! ... Rule of thumb- avoid receivers who can't catch and/or can't run routes.

You know that's not going to happen here, right? The exact opposite of a team first, O'Brien kind of guy.

He would only be $1 mil for each of the next two years. Hard not to take a flier on that as a depth guy and returner ... and then hope for more.

As I noted in OP, he is not in coaches dog house for stats but not running routes well, as you noted also. I am wondering if injuries played some part and NFL overwhelmed as he had only one season at Tenn.

I could get on board with Patterson especially at that price.

Give me Stills at a cheaper price. Should've just drafted Stills to begin with.

I have not seen anything on him being a "me first" guy. Where did you get this impression or were you referring to Harvin?

Bring in Stills and Patterson. That would make our WR corps look decent on paper right?
No, Patterson on paper would look like a reclamation, long shot, low risk/high reward guy. As we seem to be filling our needs fairly well, I am ok with one or two of these type guys.
