Anyone else starting to feel optimistic?

Anyone starting to feel pesimistic again?

I am more or less feeling like I did all season. Our run D was a little worse than I expected and our O-line wasn't quite as good as I thought - still Newton quite a bit better than expected.

I still think without a real QB we will go nowhere. Every team has wholes, ours could be fixed by our draft picks - if they ever get on the field...

I'm still optimistic about this team. I still feel we can win enough games to get a wild card. I didn't see anything today to make me think differently.

I can't wait till we get clowney back obviously when he comes back we will be a, much better team, and will be much stronger against the run and the qb pressure

Other then that I'm not worried at all I'll just be glad if we can get 8 wins. But hey one week at a, time

I disagree...

...is why we can't have Nice Things

My confidence is shot. I realize it is one game. Between our offensive line (i knew what fitspatrick was)and our none existent run defense/pass rush (besides Watt) just deflated me

Mainly because the Giants aren't in the same league as the big boys.

Maybe after I get some rest I'll feel a little better

Giants were in the Superbowl 3 years ago. They are not as bad as the record would indicate as we found out today.

Yes they are. What we found out today is that our Texans are who the Negative Nancy's have been saying they are. A team with potential, but large, gaping holes that are obvious if you take the :koolaid: goggles off.

I expect the blueprint has been set..every defensive coordinator knows now what to do ...offensive coordinators now to pound the rock to in inside.

Yeah I am overreacting. I know we will win more than 2 games but I hope we can right the ship and play better

Guess what bothers me is out of all our draft class..blue is basically the only on making a contribution (clowney will when healthy)

I was hoping they would push our vets

Seriously? were you expecting us to go undefeated this year?
LMAO!! Quite the opposite. This team has holes all over the place and most of them are on defense. I'd put OL as a close second.

Teams have, can and will win with less than "peyton Manning" or "Tom Brady" level QB play. Fitz was constantly harassed ( I'm on the record for giving Mallett a shot) and the OL was consistently whipped at the LOS today.

What we saw today is what we would've seen in week 1 if not for some fortuitous turnovers in the RZ. Heck, today's score should've been a minimum of 36-17 if not for some fortuitous mistakes by the Giants.

This team will be extremely lucky to sniff a WC berth and will not sniff a playoff win.

If the Texans had managed to knock RGIII out of week 1's game, the Texans are likely 1-2 not 2-1.

How bout the past two draft classes ?!

Clowney is out.

Su'a-Filo , Nix & Fido have contributed nuttin. I'm actually surprised by this as I was very happy with both Su'a-Filo & Nix when they were picked and expected them to contribute early.

Brennan Williams , Sam Montgomery , Trevardo Williams , Alan Bonner & Chris Jones (leaving out Quessenberry) a buncha nuttin too.

This team is built by Rick Smith. How can you feel optimistic.
Mistake not trading first pick. Look at the talent. Foster, AJ, Cushing, JJo just names now. Texans needed so many players I don't see how you can justify putting all your eggs in one basket. Last few drafts have hurt this team. Unless franchise QB available for first pick you trade it. Just my opinion.
Won't feel good until Smith is gone, but he is family.

Hey I'm happy with the result and if they go 19-0 with 2000 yds passing yippee. :hurrah:

But if folks are going to talk about antiquated (not even sure how that applies, as last I checked the field still has yardage markers, 1st downs, etc.) and misleading stats then calling the Texans passing game efficient should be exhibit A. David Carr once set the NFL passing record for completions in a row. That like the Texans current "efficiency" rating was a sham. An efficient passing attack is one you can call on at will when you need it. We ain't got it. And having said that, I hope it never gets exposed and we keep right on winning.

I would say it's inconclusive.

1. It's been exposed.

2. No longer inconclusive.

:coffee:

If the Texans beat the Bills on Sunday and improve to 3-1 I'll start to feel a little optimistic but it's going to take a win over the Cowboys and Colts coming up after that to make me feel this team is legitimately good.

I'm awaiting see at least three things:

1. What happens when opposing defenses load up the box to stop our running game and DARE Fitzpatrick to beat us with his arm.

2. Our defense slow down/stop someone else's running attack. We've had some pretty long drives ended via turnover and for that I'm grateful, no doubt. But we can't keep depending on our good turnover luck to continue. I'm not saying we haven't produced any 3-&-outs because we have. I just want to see more of them.

3. What happens when we face a prolific QB? RGIII and little Carr weren't exactly stern tests. What will we see when Luck comes to town?

4. Bonus: What happens when we get three scores down? We've only been down by 6 in the two games we've played. What's the alternative to O'Brien's ground & pound when we're down by 17 in the middle of the 3rd or beginning of the 4th qtr??

bottom line:
We haven't passed any real tests yet. Color me - how did Playoffs put it? - skeptically optimistic?? ...pessimistically hopeful?? something like that.
Flunked our first real test...
1. With Foster out, it was on Fitz's shoulders. He fell short.
2. Our defense gave up damn near 200 yds rushing - 176 to Jennings alone. Flunked.
3. Faced a 2-time SB-winning QB on one of his better days. He went 21 of 28 for 238 yds, 2 TDs, no INTs, and only sacked him once. That's not horrible but when coupled with the swiss cheese run defense it's a fail.
Bonus: Down 14 - zip in the we did manage to close to within 7. But our defense couldn't contain Jennings or pressure Manning in the 2nd half.

Didn't see what I needed to see to be optimistic.

Say what you want about the Giants mistakes, the fact is Fitz gave them good field position twice off INTs, along with a blocked punt. A little better QB play and this game would of been really close. Funny how people forget we gave them the ball 4 times, 3 times on our side of the field. Yet we are luck they only scored 30 because of their fumble and missed FG. HAHA please

I've been bitching about defense since week one. Texans need NT and Clowney.

The :koolaid: is strong with you, padwan....

Not koolaid making me say that haha. Fact is we shot ourselves in the foot and basically gave this game to the Giants. 4 turnovers and we lose by 13 ?

I suppose that's one way to look at it...
another is that most of last season's losses were by 7 pts or less

hopefully we'll rebound at home next week

Haha i don't know why but i don't feel as bad about this loss as a lot of people on here do. I thought blue had a pretty good game, Nuk is coming to his own. I don't think it is as bad as some people think. We're still in first in the AFCS :)

Those turnovers were a foregone fact once AF was declared out. Today was vintage Fitzpatrick. Today was a good beat down. Look forward to more of the same.

This loss was against an NFC opponent on the road. When I first saw the schedule I had this chalked up in the L column. I'm not extremely disappointed about this loss as a result.

Did any Texans get seriously hurt playing today's game? If the answer is no then I'm feeling pretty good about next week's game.

I think I speak for a lot of posters when I say, its not the fact we lost, its the fact our "issues" have been there for 3 straight weeks with no improvement and the Giants took advantage of them. The last 3 weeks we had problems with

Pass rush
Stopping the run
Tackling

Passing the ball
Creating lanes on short yardage
Getting our rbs the ball in space (passing)

We have sucked in all these phases and nothing has been shown to suggest we will improve. If we don't show consistently that we can beat teams deep, they will continue to stack the box to stop the run. If we do not eliminate the rushing lanes the PA and pass rush will continue to suck. Its a team effort to improve.

I think we need to either force Fitz to pass deep or bring in Mallett who will at least take chances.

We need to figure out our ILB because DJ playing down in the box is just not working out. He is getting blasted by the FB and G and being washed out of plays too easily. He is too small to be in the box. Cushing isn't as explosive but he can hold his own, we just need a guy next to him to do the same. And for all the love we share for JJ he was getting single blocked quite a bit today and they were rushing right at him with ease. He needs to improve as well as our other trash linemen.

Guess Smith was more important to the DL than some of you would like to admit.....

The month of October will tell the tale for the 2014 Texans. That will be the test, and boy will they be tested. .500 ball (not to mention any playoff aspirations) will hang in the balance.

If the Texans go 2-2 or better they have a shot at 8-8 or better. Worse than that: losing season guaranteed!

I'll save you a little trouble. This team is not legitimately good & won't be this season. However because of our schedule & the overall strength of our conference, or lack thereof, we still might get a wild card spot.

I wont argue with that ... Hell , I've made the same statement multiple times - as long as the defense holds up.

I did expect a better effort against the Giants tho .... But that's what we can come to expect if Foster isn't playing / playing well.

Don't forget about the TE's having disappeared.

Tuggle hasn't been very good inside either , he's gotten washed out just as often as Swearinger when he's been in the box.

Crick hasn't been horrible but they definitely miss Ninja. The bigger problem I think is the NT spot getting blown up consistently.

I'm feeling pretty much the way I did before the game.

This isn't a great team. I'm not sure if it's a TERRIBLE team. I expect us to win some and to lose some.

I'm hoping that Mallett's going to come in and take advantage of our WRs. Nuk showed off why he was a first round pick today, just some amazing catches (even if the best one didn't count.) Fitzy is what Fitzy is. I had been hoping that maybe I was wrong about him and OB had something in place to minimize Fitzy's issues... and I guess he did and that "something" was Arian Foster.

Our defense needs to play better. But we were in nickle and dime almost the entire game, daring them to run, and the Giants took advantage of that.

So... 6-10 to 8-8 looks to be where we're going to end up. I'm just hoping we sweep the Jags and Titans. (And if we do, that gets us to 6-10 which is the worst case.)

I'm optimistic that Cushing had 17 tackles today. That's an insane number.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know all the caveats. I don't care. Cushing's legs were destroyed two years in a row. For him to be involved that much is important and encouraging.

Hopefully Clowney comes back, we shore up the run, and Watt, him, and Cushing can dominate.

Was it? When I go back to watch the game, I'm going to be looking at the run game & see if maybe we gave up on the run too early... like why was Ronnie Brown even in the game?

If we've got Arian, we don't see anyone else until very late in the game except for an occasional breather or what not. Yesterday, no Arian & even though Blue is doing ok, we saw all three active RBs before the half.

Who was surprised that Ronnie Brown was stuffed for a loss? :cricket:

:cricket: .:cricket:

Sucks, because I know Bridgewater will be the best QB out of this draft class.

I'm not too worried about Bridgewater. I don't believe he's going to be elite. Better than Fitzpatrick... yes. Substantially better than Mallet/Savage... doubt it.

I expected a bigger upgrade at QB, so that is still hanging out there. However, Fitz is doing OK so far.

I'm still optimistic right now, but that optimism can change given sufficient evidence things aren't going well as the season progresses.

Given the schedule and assuming a fairly healthy season? 10-6 sounds about right.

Evidence not looking good.

QB play still a major weakness.

Schedule might not be weak enough.

Fairly healthy? Hardly. Combine the bad health with rookies who aren't having an impact even though they were high draft picks at positions of need for a 2-14 team...not looking good.

I'm not a pessimist yet though. I want to see how the new staff reacts.

=============

I expected a bigger upgrade at QB, so that is still hanging out there.

I'm not trying to be nit-picky here, I can understand wanting a "bigger" upgrade at QB, but did you see a better option? Matt Schaub was probably the best QB available this offseason.

I had high hopes that Mallet could have been that "bigger" upgrade, but if he's still riding the bench after this last game, I can't imagine OB thinking he may be an upgrade.

Those turnovers were a foregone fact once AF was declared out. Today was vintage Fitzpatrick. Today was a good beat down. Look forward to more of the same.

I never look forward to nor expect my team to get beat down. We did not play as bad as some on here are claiming is all i'm saying. 3 ints and a blocked punt and we lose by 13, take away just 2 of those turnovers and this would of been a different game.

We do need an upgrade at QB though because i don't think Fitz knows how not to turn the ball over.

Even though we got our hopes up, and then looked like jerks loosing to the Giants, we still need to have a bit of patience with the new coaching staff. They haven't had all the time they need yet.

Honestly, the team is kind of where I expected them to be.

2-1 is actually fairly respectable for a team that is in,
essentially, a rebuild.

I expected them to lose to WAS and beat OAK and NYG.

Even though the sequence was different than I thought,
there's no shame in 2-1 right now..

I'm not even looking at it like that. I thought the first four games were winnable. If we end up 3-1 or 2-2, that's about where I thought we'd be.

Indy, Dallas... if they play like they did yesterday, we're not going to beat them. However, there's no guarantee that they'll play that well. So we may have a shot. Just can't get into that "shootout mentality" & match them score for score & throw for throw.

Steelers, again, they looked good yesterday. We couldn't beat that team. But between now & the time we play the Steelers, we have the opportunity to get better. & that's what I expect to see. I was hoping we'd be playing well enough to compete with Indy in week 5, but it doesn't look like it.

So we'll see.

Welcome back TK I see you have put away the hatorade :)

It could be worse. We could be Oakland or Jacksonville fans.

Did you see Derek Carr yelling at WR Denarius Moore after the pass bounced off Moore's hand and was intercepted to end the game vs. N.E.? I didn't know he had that in him... kid has some fire in his belly.

Boring game from a boring team. They'll be lucky to win 6 this year, IMHO.

Fitzpatrick is exactly who I thought he was when they picked him up. Hopefully they can find a solution to QB by September 2015, either on the bench, free agency, draft, or trade. Because Fitz will never be more than what he is right now.

I was a draft Bortles with the first pick guy. I know first round quarterbacks bust frequently. I know you aren't supposed to draft for need. However, the Texans are being held back tremendously by the lack of an NFL QB. I would have started one of the other guys a couple of games and thrown Bortles out there. No guarantee it would work, but I'd have done that. There is also no guarantee they get a franchise quarterback next year. I think the legacy of David Carr at #1 still hangs over this franchise like a black cloud.

On the bright side, it might not matter if there is a good quarterback available or not. At the rate the Texans are going, they might have to draft d-line next year. :toropalm:
