Ed Reed agrees to terms with Texans

Like every time a big-name player is linked with Houston and you know as soon as you hear it that it's bs. The team would make an offer matching their needs and not the player's desires/expectations, and the prima donna would move on to another sucker. I can't even count the number of wide receivers that have been rumored to be interested in the Texans over the years, and yet seemed always to sign elsewhere.

Look guys, we made an offer that GM thought was reasonable and Reed left. Give him 24 hours to accept and move on. It's business. Who cares if McNair sent his jet. He did what he thought was needed.

Ok guys here the news you've been waiting for!!!!

I have a friend with an awesome connection, who has a source who worked with a guy , who was in school with a player that keeps in close contact with another player through twitter, and says he's friends with Ed Reeds third cousin who happens who happens to live in a nbeiboring state and drives down to see there grandma all the time and supposably a grandson was told that the Texans might have a chance, but only if the money is more than what he is worth, unless he can't find a better deal, but he still might think about it because he's friends with dre and they went to the U, but he still needs a big pay check to retire with, so he still thinking about it, according to the grandsons brother who happened to be friends with the guy writing this, which doesn't know how to use periods, or make sentences only commas, and exclamations!!!

Ok, hope that clears things up,
Can we end this thread now!

John Harbaugh 'very hopeful' on signing Reed

A week ago, it looked like safety Ed Reed would never return to the Baltimore Ravens after taking a private jet to visit with the Houston Texans. Now, there's increased optimism that he could come back to Baltimore.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters Tuesday that he was "very hopeful" on the team's chances of re-signing Reed.

"On the hopeful scale I’d say it’s of high hope," Harbaugh said at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday. "It’s high on the measuring stick. We’ll just have to see how it works out.”

Contrary to previous reports, Reed is not close to a deal with the Texans, according to The Houston Chronicle. The paper is reporting the Texans offered Reed $4 million a year, which is far below his asking price of $6-$7 million per season.

Reed's agent is in the process of contacting other teams, but it seems like the Ravens would have a chance to match any offer given his ties to the team. Harbaugh has kept in contact with Reed through text messages this offseason.

"Ed and I are very close and I know he would tell you the same," Harbaugh said. "Our relationship has just blossomed. It’s been good, but this year with Ed especially, we really just got close."

Harbaugh said he doesn't feel Reed is close to making a decision. Beyond that, he's not making any prediction about Reed, only saying that he has his fingers crossed.

Looks like John and Ed patched things up after the "mutiny"... lol

If he won't take $4 million-per...if we could even up it to $5 million-per and he'd still be wishy washy and need days to consider....then I'm ok with us pulling away and looking elsewhere.

Sometimes the best deal is the one you never made. This has become a situation of Ed looking for money and not necessarily opportunity. We don't need that in 2013, we need guys who believe we can get it done. Not looking for one last ride out of NFL City at the expense of our team's cap and roster spot(s).

I'm officially hoping we walk away and go get the other possible secondary players that fit the budget plan.

Is it true Rick Smith is meeting right now with David Dunn to continue discussions?

Lets please limit all joking for a while and follow what's happening.

Based on what happened...

Maybe provide a link or paste the tweet or snippet of Internet information to help us to not make jokes of the situation.

Not trying to attack you, just saying that that's how we got to the endless joking in the first place.

Where did you hear of this? Was it on twitter or ESPN or on radio, etc.? I'm all up for new information, just curious as to where you heard it.

John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL)
Bob McNair and Gary Kubiak said today they want Ed Reed but they're not trying to rush Rick Smith, who's negotiating with agent Dave Dunn.

McNair on Reed: “U have 2 b cautious. We've got Cushing coming up and J.J. next year. We have 2 make sure we have enough room under our cap

Totally hear you. Was really asking for some substantiation from someone, myself!

Heard a couple comments from McNair about being careful with cap and having to extend WAtt and Cush. Sounds like we've got our price and aren't budging.

ETA - friend told me a later responded mclane tweeter it I think??

I don't want to hear any noises that come from McClain's tweeter. :shades:

Seriously, though: I might have to start following McClain on twitter. Although I don't really follow or check twitter much anyways. I probably should in free agency and in camp during the summer.

Aaron Wilson ‏@RavensInsider 2m Ravens expected to meet with safety Michael Huff within the next five days, according to a league source.

The Ravens are expected to bring in Oakland Raiders safety Michael Huff for a visit to team headquarters within the next five days, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation.

The Super Bowl champions are interested in Huff, a former Raiders first-round draft pick cut by Oakland prior to the start of the free agency signing period.

Other NFL teams that have made inquiries about the former University of Texas standout: the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans.

Huff, 30, could provide Ravens a contingency plan if veteran free safety Ed Reed signs with the Houston Texans, a situation that remains up in the air with sources saying the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year nonplussed about a three-year offer worth roughly $12 million.

Please Steve Bisciotti make it happen as fast as possible so that the Texans aren't paralyzed any longer!

The Texans are coming off as desperate in this ordeal. It's time for Rick smith to move on and prepare for the draft a little over a month away. Ed reed doesn't want to leave the ratbirds. Are the Texans brass to dumb to read between the lines?????

When the McClain report came out about the $4 mil per year, it was implied x 2 years. Someone on ESPN though reported that it was for 3 years.

How does making an offer and apparently sticking to it come across as desperate? This is the opposite. If they were throwing money just to make a move that would be desperate.

He may not want to leave them, but he hasn't signed with them yet either. This is more about money than staying in Baltimore. He thinks he's worth more than he is at this stage in his career, and if he keeps insisting on 7 million, it's going to backfire on him something drastic. If I'm Rick, I'd bump the offer to 5 mil, but no more than that. If he keeps taking his time, I'd pull it and look elsewhere. No one has any time for this.

Why in the world would you compete w/ yourself? It's obvious Reed is not getting anything better then what the Texans are offering, so why up it? If he was getting something better, especially from the Ravens, chances are he would've signed or his contact w/ the Texans would be limited or over. If I was Rick I would stand pat & even might up the anty at this point by putting a deadline on the deal. Right now Reed is stringing the Texans along as other players are being signed away & creating a bigger upper hand for Reed against the Texans. Take it or leave it By a certain time & move on so the Texans can at least explore other options & get a worthy alternative IMO. At this point Reed's intentions are suspect & in the end the Texans could be stuck w/ a player who doesn't help this team.

Any examples of teams desperately throwing away money? ;)

*EDIT*

Yes, we can go on and on and on and on......... Meh, so much for being fiscally responsible.

Houston's offer was competitive. That's why no other teams have swooped in to top it.

A guy like Reed is going to need a little time to mentally adjust to the fact that he is no longer worth what he once was. It's a reality check on the ego, and it's also why McNair and Smith utilized the private jet. It's a gesture that says, "We really want you here, so no disrespect intended by this offer that is based on market value."

Reed will be ready to sign when he comes to terms with his declined value, which may not even happen until he watches his former team start working out other safety FA's.

Texans are ony offering 3million per season less than he played for last year...no biggie deal....

He isn't worth what he made last season. You don't see Ozzie offering what he got last year either. Ed clearly thinks much more highly of himself than NFL teams do. The guy is past his prime. I hope he eventually signs a 1 year contract in Baltimore and retires.

Aaron Wilson ‏@RavensInsider

Texans offer to Ed Reed in the three-year, $4 million annual range, per league sources. Reed made $7.2 million last year. Seeking similar

He's going to pursue $7 million while half the league has cap problems.

Ego adjustment period. When he comes out of denial, the Texans' offer will be the most attractive one left.
