from beautiful Miami, Florida (February 7, 2010)!

After all the mess the Saints and City of New Orleans went through since 2005! They are clearly the underdog in this game. Will Sean Payton call this game with his hands stuck up his ass like he did against the Vikings? Will Reggie Bush be having too much fun with Kim Kardassian?

We'll find out soon. In the meantime:

As for the Colts, they could have went 18-0 and be playing this game for the undefeated season. Instead, manangement just wanted to one-up the Patriots on the regular season record. People knocked them for weeks, but it doesn't matter know. Colts are in the big game. Will Manning's big forehead help the Colts win the game (Saints have some nice defensive schemes)? We'll see in two weeks!

My prediction? Saints win it 35-28.

I'm good...

Hopefully Sean Payton opens up the playbook. They played conservative against the Vikings. Should be a good game. Can a mod add a poll to the thread?

Agreed. I thought Payton called a curious game against a team that had an injury or two to the secondary. He is going to have to open it up if he wants to keep up with Manning and the Colts.

I have a feeling this Super Bowl is going to be epic.

New Orleans has suffered soooo long with the Saints, it'd be nice to see them win. I don't think they'll win, but that's who I'm rooting for.

Go Saints

The Colts will win. But I'm rooting for the Saints.

Disappointed with the prospect of the game however. I think the Jets against the Saints or Packers would have been entertaining.

I'm pretty sure this game is going to be the best Super Bowl since 2000. Can't wait to see these offenses go to work in two weeks.

If only they could rebuild their storm dikes as fast as their football team.

Peyton wins his second SB.

I guess this is suppose to be a joke.

just a statement as to how fast Peyton got that team to the SB when I thought they would be floundering, and the ongoing efforts to safeguard the city from the next storm.

you're much too sensitive GB, or you're too critical of my posts.

No I just think it was a shitty thing to say. Wish I could say I was surprised.

Sorry. You don't BLINDSIDE a QB at the knees after he's CLEARLY released the football. That equals bad karma for your own offense. If you have a horseshoe on your helmet and the guys with that cute little fleur de le try to do the same thing to Manning that they got away with on Favre...it's gonna be ugly. As much as I don't like the Colts I'm pullin' for them in this one. I want to see the Manning brother who SHOULD have the fat contract surpass his dad yet again by beating his old team.

karma doesn't exist, certainly not in sports

So I IMAGINED Barry Bonds being treated like a pariah because of breaking "Hammering" Hank Aaron's home run record with the help of HGH or the malestrom that McQuire is getting right now because he's admittig to steroid use? NO KARMA? I respectfully disagree.

Sorry. You don't BLINDSIDE a QB at the knees after he's CLEARLY released the football.

Maybe not throwing the flag there was payback for the earlier flag when the guy was already in the air when Favre threw and the just barely put a hand on the out of bounds player flag.

I'm fairly conflicted about the game. I'm not exactly sure who I support as of yet.

I like Indy because Manning is one of the greatest QBs of all time and deserves his day in the sun. I dislike Indy because they are a division rival and I would love it if they got their butts kicked.

I like the Saints just because of who they are, and it's their first time there. I disklike the Saints because of Reggie Flying Bush.

But I have to say it's not going to take up a lot of space in my mind thinking on this. I don't care who wins because neither team is the Texans.

I voted Saints. The NFL and the refs will make sure of it!!

BUT, I'll be pulling for the COLTS, which will be a waste of time. THink I'll just go to the beach!

Go Colts! As it's now been proven it doesn't take 8 years to turn a team around and make the playoffs (let alone the superbowl) regardless of what external effects happen.

I'm rooting for the Saints, but I expect the Colts to win this one.

Maybe Peyton will retire if the Colts win it. One can always wish.

As far as I'm concerned, the Colts have beaten the Texans three times this year: twice head to head and once when they rolled over for the Jets.

Not only that, but how exactly is Indianapolis in the "South" division, anyway?

Makes almost as little sense as Dallas being in the NFC East, or Atlanta being in the NFC West for so many years before expansion and realignment.

The Saints were the only team in the playoffs I didn't hate when we started, and in an effort to deny Peyton the 'greatest ever' tag, I will be a huge Saints fan in 2 weeks.

Im rooting for the Colts simply because I dont want to hear Saints fans talk about Reggie Bush and his 41 yards of total offense, 1TD catch and one fumble lost, and how that got them to the superbowl so they could win...

Seriously, dude had 8 rushing yards on 7 carries.

I can't root for an AFC South rival of the Texans ever. With the exception of it benefitting the Texans i.e. needing them to win to help regarding playoffs, etc.

I do think the Colts will win, but I'll be rooting my ass off for the Saints.

Haha, nice one. Go pull up some examples.

Should be an interesting game and a good one. The media will focus on the "business as usual" mantra that is the Colts vs the drama of the Saints making it after all these years.

I really wish they wouldn't talk about Katrina and all that but they will ad nauseum. I think I'll skip all the pre game blowhard media reports and just watch the game. Some of it anyway.

I think the Colts take it...Peyton being the difference maker. He handled the Jets D. He can do the same with the Saints.

I could only hope....

but I've seen this accusation thrown around pretty liberally and it's pretty much bullshit

as a Saints fan, I found plenty to complain about.

They got flagged five times while we got 9 flags thrown at us for 50+ more yards - 2 of them were protecting Favre and were terrible calls. The McCray shot at his knees should've been. The Hargrove one was garbage as was the one where McCray took Favre out when he was clearly squaring up to lay a block. Though there was some confusion on who the penalty was one - was it a bad penalty on Favre who was blocking or a ticky tack hit-out-of-bounds - they called McCray's number and he was the one who hit Favre.

If they wanted the Saints to win, the penalty discrepancy would not have been so pronounced. They would've given Reggie a TD without forcing Payton use a challenge. They don't call PI on Porter in the end zone. They call holding for the OLine mugging that was going on all game. Etc.

It was a pretty poorly officiated game for both teams.

As for this conspiracy theory? What does the NFL stand to gain? Seems to me most people wanted Favre/Manning badly. Higher ratings. More people watching. More interest. Etc....

Personally, I do agree with a lot of people that the Katrina-related reportage can get old and tiresome and, at times, can be unrelated. As a result, people will speculate that the NFL wants a title for this hurricane-ravaged region.

My counter to that would be that if there's one thing that I see more coverage of and comments about - its Brett Favre. If there's one NFL story that trumps Saints/Katrina, it's Brett Favre. If there's one storyline the media would be more obsessed with going into the Super Bowl, it's Brett Favre. If there's one story most deserving of a quick and painful death, imo, it's Brett Favre's. Perhaps the tin foil hat wouldn't appear as tight if the story opposite this nonsensical Saints conspiracy was the story that won't die. Ever.

Like I said, I think it's a pretty baseless charge and always seems to be the last argument in the defense of an argument that's poor to begin with.

I am not going to say the Saints didn't benefit from bad calls.

But so did the Vikes - led to two TDs for them.

Bad officiating. Both sides. There is no conspiracy.

If it benefited the Saints, I'd take it - and wouldn't apologize or feel bad.

Hell, I wish you were right.

People act like the New Orleans defense didn't cause those turnovers though. The Saints offense couldn't capitalize on them. Also, the Colts defense has not played an offense as good as the Saints' this playoffs (Ravens and Jets? Nah). The Saints defense has (Cardinals and Vikings? Yep). Should be a good game. I think people are overrating Indy's defense actually.

it's the easy man's and lazy fan's out - the Saints defense did what it did ALL season - gave up yards, but fought for turnover opportunities

The Saints do not have world beaters up front. Ellis is phenomenal as a second year tackle up front - but he's been hobbled a fair bit. The other DTs are journeymen for a reason - Hargrove has moments, but the rest are just bleh. Will Smith is sporadic and doesn't keep containment. Grant has been decent against the run.

Our LB corps isn't great to begin with and we have no depth. Our OLB are adequate with each having flashes from time to time. Vilma is the heart and mind and soul of that defense in the middle. Love him.

The strength is in our secondary.

Greer is FINALLY getting noticed - a couple of prominent articles make reference to him as a something of a poor man's Revis. The truth is, he's been amazing this year. His closing speed is among the best in the NFL and despite being challenged a lot before he got hurt, he had amazing statistics and performed admirably.

Porter gambles a bit more, but he's been a surprise since his rookie year. Between the two seasons (he's missed a lot of time due to injuries and that's a concern), he's got nearly a full season under his belt and looks good. Sharper and Harper have also been $$$$ this year.

So when Williams comes in, he looks at the personnel and says that with the front 7 we have, we MUST create turnovers because we aren't going to be able to contain a lot of offenses.

So they PRACTICE turnovers.

Did you see Porter's forced fumble? He punched the ball out while Berrian was in the air and had his other hand wrapped. It was a really impressive play. And Smith's forced fumble? He had a good look at the ball in Harvin's hand and made a good play.

Even the offense sees it - Meachem in the Redskins game had that strip and TD after an interception in what I think was one of the most - if not THE most - impressive individual play of the year. He credited Williams for that - for the mentality of turnovers he preaches, the strip tactics and drills practiced every day.

And Greer almost had a third INT - hit him square.

The two interceptions - I read that Vilma called an audible on BOTH of those defensive formations/assignments and people were in position to make a play. And did.

This defense - out of necessity - has to be an opportunistic one because we don't have the personnel of a Ravens or Jets or Vikings defense.

We've done it all year - live by it, die by it.

And yet, people act like they were gifts. Some of them were no doubt mishaps by the Vikings - like the bad handoff. That one I'd call a "gimme" turnover. Well, we had one, too - with Reggie on the muffed punt.

Giving up yards and taking away the ball is how we have to play defense.

And it's entirely possible that if we don't get turnovers against the Colts, it could be very, very, very ugly. No doubt. The game scares me. But so did Warner. And so did Favre.

I like our CBs very much. Our LBs end up matching up against slot receivers or Dallas Clark or a RB out of the backfield - that's worrisome.

But we are in the game - we have a chance. And only a couple of teams can still say that.

manning will handle them the same way he handled the jets defense. Initially, williams will be coming & coming hard for manning until they get burned a few times thru the air & with screens & draws. Williams will then back off & at that point, it'll be open season on their secondary who by the way don't have a Revis shutting down 1 side of the field.

The little thought about advantages indy have (outside of manning that is) is that indy's lb's can run and cover a bit which will help them in the long run whereas NO's lb's really can't. That's going to leave lots of complete mismatches on Clark. Also, Indy's edge rushers can generate pressure fairly consistently by themselves (without blitzing, this is not the case with NO) & both of them are speed rushers which won't really allow them to shift protection just 1 way like they did with Minny against Allen. Also, after watching Minny fumbling their season away, U can bet that emphasis in practice for the colts will be on ball security. So i don't anticipate NO getting as many turnovers.

Great post.

And Warner and Favre have something in common. Before playing the Saints, those two were barely touched (during the playoffs at least). When they played them, they were rocked...

I think we should ALL be rooting for the Colts.... why?

So New Orleans and all the bandwagon Saints fans can taste the pain we Texans fans feel twice a year every year recently when facing the Colts. I truly enjoyed the Jets and Ravens getting a taste of this, I had friends who were SO confident going into their games and laughed at me for telling them they'll feel my pain and they all came out giving the Texans credit for the way they've played the Colts in past years even though we haven't beat them. The Texans certainly have given the Colts the most difficulty this year, excluding the two games at the end of the year where the Colts threw in the towel.

So Texans fans SHOULD be rooting for the Colts so others can feel our pain and realize how tough it is to beat Manning.
