2009 NFL Draft Thread

Who questions that Slaton is the man? The question is, who plays behind him? Anyone confident in the Texans ability to find retreads? I'm confident in their draft choices.

If they felt there was a huge dropoff after Greene and Coffee, they should have traded up to get one of them. Hill looks to be good #2 TE, but it's not like they couldn't live without him. Should have tried to use the rosencopter pick and move up to grab one of them. Anyway, it's not over until it's over. Let's see how this plays out.

A freaking men.....Texans should have taken a RB in the second round or the center in the second round. Third round could have been RB and 4th CB and DE... we did not need DE that early. Those supporting the pick said we are gonna have a quality RB in the third or fourth round...but that is not the case.

Outside of Slaton...we are screwed.

Anthony Hill.

NFL.com said it best.

Pick Analysis: Hill is a big, blocking tight end with adequate speed. He is almost like having a third tackle in the game. He's probably the best blocking tight end in this draft. The Texans have the receiving tight end in Owen Daniels, and now they have the blocker to go along with him.

That says goal line power formation and short yardage situations to me.

So if we had Barwin rated as a late 1st/early 2nd round pick but the next RB we wanted was graded out as a 3rd rounder... you want us to take the RB?

That's actually called reaching.

Andre Brown and Gartrell Johnson were available for either of our 4th round picks but we passed them up.

Completely forgot that James Davis is still available. I'd like to see us target both him and Jennings if they are available with our next two picks.

Check out a running back named Javarris Williams from Tennessee State. Runs a 4.52 and is 5-10 223, 25 reps on the bench. He is from Richmond, Texas and had offers from Texas, A&M etc...

Just what I've read in the last few days leading up to the draft. Never seen a game. Interesting pick though- they obviously liked him more than the other DB's that were available.

I've kept up with Ryan Mouton the last four years because he's from my old high school. Didn't think we'd draft him because he doesn't fit the DB mold of the Texans.

Not trying to be a smart-ass, but am honestly curious. Based on the last 3 drafts, what has this current front office done to make us think they do not know what they are doing?

The Texans can pickup a productive RB that has the size and the speed to make an impact on our team. Herb Donaldson from Western Illinois, Walter Payton Award candidate who had a productive career at WIU and is a good character blue-collar workhorse. He should be around FAs and I would love to see him backup Slaton.

I think the Texans take a RB in the 5th, which one I dunno....

So who was it saying we'd go Defense all 7 rounds? That there's no way we take any Offense before the 6th? The no guy on the OL would be taken before the 6th?

Well Defense- 3, Offense- 2... and we havn't even addressed RB yet.

Smith is taking what the draft is giving him. Their getting guys that they like specific to our team.

How about Collins following Leach up the middle in short yardage situations?
I'm fine with that. Or the guy from Liberty. Or the back from Virginia or Tennessee State. Just draft a RB, Smithiak, and get us off this ledge. ;)

(Not really on a ledge. Just in the kitchen making tuna salad).

I thought we needed an interior lineman, second TE for 2 TE sets, and a backup RB for our offense to be set. While I really wanted a RB earlier we've got two of them filled. I also wouldn't complain about another WR late, although I could see a backup QB too depending on who's available.

End of the day I'm betting they take 5 defensive and 3 offensive players, with another RB being the offensive guy and another secondary player on D. 7th round they go best available.

Crap I really like Dillard myself. That guy's tough as nails and totally breaks the Jags mold of huge tall WR's with no hands.

Don't forget the other requirements for Jags receivers...a drug problem. Dillard just doesn't meet any of those requirements for Jag receivers. So of course that means he'll be a solid pro as opposed to a failure like Jones/Williams/etc.

I dunno, you might want to ask SpursTexansStros. He seems to know more than they do.

:heh:

I like it when our LBs are very, very pissed about anything. That means it's clobbering time.

:texflag:

Yep. His answers in the press conference are impressing me. He's got a quiet yet obvious cockiness. If his attitude is contagious, he could be a huge presence on that defense.
