2009 NFL Draft Thread

Needs who cares about needs...we have a player that the Patriots like and could have been a first rounder....ok Texan fans that is the pick you will hang your hats on this draft.

We could have had quality SS or RB or even C in the second round instead we draft another tweener who has "potential" to be a reserve...not someone we desperately needed.

Instead we draft a center in the 3rd and now by the time the next pick come in I feel that it wont be a Terrel Davis type player.

Your 2005...errr 2009 draft.:gun:

Yeah, sure...you're trying to use projections that draft pundits make instead of realizing that actual scouts and coaches don't pay attention to that sort of thing....they make their own projections and value charts.

obviously. I can see that most team don't pay attention to those stuff. hence where reaching come from. refer back to Al Davis first round pick, I doubt he cares how big of a reach DHB is either. He's too busy creaming his pants from DHB speed.

Pretty clear that our FO doesn't think much of the RBs that are left OR they are convinced they have the heavy back in Chris Brown.
Who's not confident in Chris Brown? Hey, why not bring Ahman Green back? Or Ron Dayne?

Smith and Kubiak had better get a RB out of this draft. Or trade for one before the season starts.

How many teams left in the 4th are threats to take a RB? Maybe the Texans can wait until the 5th. Only 7 RBs selected, thus far. There's gonna be a run on RBs sometime. Right?

Kinda gotta give Smith credit here.....he's sticking to his big board now and Hitting BPA filling a need. Agree with it or not.....

And what this says to me the RB falling and them waiting....Steve Slaton is the man in Houston. And Kubes wasn't lying in December when he said the things he said about Slaton. Old Miss have you ever heard of this DB from New Mexico ?

And Good luck to Ryan Mouton....Go REL.

Glover Quin looks terrific. Thanks for the link. To simplify what I saw: Looks like Jacques Reeves with ball skills and hits with abandon like Dunta.

I like this pick alot. He's all over the field. He flys to the ball and likes to hit. He has a nose for the ball and looks to be heady and aware.

I'll await the presser to see what they're thinking with the TE, but I LOVE the Quin pick.

Crap, let's bring Jonathan Wells and James Allen back.....dang it, pick up Andre or Rashad guys!

If you think our FO draft pick track record resembles anything close to Al Davis' draft pick track record, then you haven't been paying attention.

If I were a Raiders fan, then I'm sure I would be ticked w/ their choices b/c they've been burned w/ bad choices over and over. But the players that the Texans FO have given us repeatedly in later rounds just makes me trust their judgement and player evaluations a little more.....Owen Daniels, Fred Bennett, Xavier Adibi all in the 4th....Hey, you're entitled to your own opinion and knee-jerk reactions, but I'll reserve my judgement until I know and see a little more from player X.

Lucky got me to thinking... almost four rounds in the book and only 8 RBs selected (Andre Brown went to the Giants as I was typing this)... Maybe the quality @ RB just isn't there this year....

so maybe smithiak thinks they can work a deal for a RB in F/A

Well Denver has about 8 RB's right now and nobody is getting playing time over Moreno.

on HT.com Shannahan says Caldwell is not expected to compete for the starting C spot. He's exptected to be the backup interior swing OL.

Bye bye Kasey. :)

Or.....Denver is going to let go of a few Rbs this summer. When a man is walking towards the gallows.....you feed him more rope.

Cush is on 610 NOW !!!!

I agree...he looks great in those highlights. Granted, they are only highlights, but I like all the qualities that I see in them. He looks excellent in coverage, is always getting his hands on the ball, and is definitely not afraid to deliver a big hit...if a player like this can develop and adjust to the NFL, he could be the disruptive, play-making S we've been needing.

I made an analogy to the Raiders because of our one, single reach but no where did I say their track record were comparable. not even close.

The thing is, our past 4th round selections were prospects that were suppose to go higher but fell to us, beside Daniels who was taken where he was slated to go. Quin was someone we could've taken probably in the later rounds, or atleast thats where others felt like he was going to go. I wouldn't know though since I don't have every teams list of player rankings.

Who questions that Slaton is the man? The question is, who plays behind him? Anyone confident in the Texans ability to find retreads? I'm confident in their draft choices.

If they felt there was a huge dropoff after Greene and Coffee, they should have traded up to get one of them. Hill looks to be good #2 TE, but it's not like they couldn't live without him. Should have tried to use the rosencopter pick and move up to grab one of them. Anyway, it's not over until it's over. Let's see how this plays out.

Andre Brown is a good player guys, but he gets injured constantly. That's not what we want. He is also a bit of a underachiever. Should have been alot more dominate than he was in the ACC.

There were better receiving TEs out there, but we probably got the best blocking TE left.

Sporting News Radio:

"It's a great organization. They are hungry to win."

"I'm told to make an impact immediately."

Stoids:

"Unfortunately it had to come up. People starting rumors" Move on.

Like who? And they have to be good blockers.

Speaking in terms of value, Ingram from Florida (although, blocking is meh), Dan Gronkowski is the 6th, or Jon Phillips in the 6th.

My main issue is the selection of TE. It is not a need. More OLine depth, a run stuffing DT, a RB, those are the people I want.

Allright! I calming down now, I'm still getting over these 2 "projects"! Sigh! I thought we could have gotten them in the later rounds! I'm sure I will eventually warm up over these 2!:foottap:

That begs the question: How much do you give up to get a guy or how high do you draft a guy who you know will probably only get 8-12 snaps a game??

Be patient Lucky. They have been working on this for two months. They have someone targeted. And they are pretty confident he'll be they when they want him. I don't beleive it's knee jerk and haphazard. They have a plan and they are sticking too it.

Trading up for those guys wasn't worth it. New England scored two 2nd round selections from teams that wanted to move up in the third for "their guy".

No way in hell I would give up a 2nd next year for a third this year especially considering how weak the talent is in this year.

Anthony Hill.

NFL.com said it best.

Pick Analysis: Hill is a big, blocking tight end with adequate speed. He is almost like having a third tackle in the game. He's probably the best blocking tight end in this draft. The Texans have the receiving tight end in Owen Daniels, and now they have the blocker to go along with him.

Rashad Jennings
James Davis
Kory Sheets
Cedric Peerman

are all some talented, big backs who are still around going into the 5th. Wouldn't mind either one.

I can't find any of our old threads about the draft... did they get deleted?

I think Smith is picking players that they really like and have a fit on this team. Love the Caldwell pick. The Glover Quin pick reminds me of the Jacoby Jones pick. Not because of their play but with the draft. Right after we took Quin, then David Bruton, Chip Vaughn immediately got selected. They obviously like him more than the other safeties available or DJ Moore the CB. This wasn't a pick I was expecting but I'll trust their judgement over the others.

The TE pick makes me think he's going to block and catch in the redzone. Seems like a guy the liked and chose him over a need.

I was preferring Andre Brown and Chip Vaughn with our two 4ths.
