Texans trade for OL Chris Clark

Let's remember Clark has been with the team less than a week. Still learning the system/verbiage

While i do agree, knowing the system has nothing to do with getting beat one on one again and again by some scrub players. No wonder we got him for a UDFA.

Newly-acquired Texans tackle Chris Clark: 'This is a tough deal, my head is spinning'
by AARON WILSON | SEPT. 4, 2015

ARLINGTON — It was understandable that newly-acquired Texans offensive tackle Chris Clark was a bit overwhelmed by his new surroundings Thursday night.

Clark was acquired in a trade from the Denver Broncos for a 2016 seventh-round draft pick this week and has been involved in a crash course with offensive line coach Mike Devlin to try to absorb a vastly different playbook and terminology.

Projected as the Texans’ new swing tackle because of his interchangeable skills as a left tackle and right tackle, Clark started against the Dallas Cowboys in a preseason finale and wasn’t entirely pleased with how things went despite factoring in the difficulty of his personal circumstances.

“It went pretty well,” Clark said. “I had some good things and bad things. That’s part of football. I’m trying to take it all in and keep pushing forward. My head is spinning.

“This is a tough deal. You haven’t been in the fire with these guys. Everything is totally different. I’ve been trying to study and get extra hours in after practice. I’m trying to be perfect.”

Texans running back Chris Polk said he was impressed with how Clark did in his first game since joining the team.

“It’s really difficult, especially at a position like lineman,” Polk said. “You have to k now defenses, how plays are blocked. It was phenomenal that he was out there and to do what he did, it’s a testament to him and his character.”

Clark said his transition to a new team is being eased by the presence of his father and brothers in Houston.

“It’s definitely an honor to be a part of this team,” Clark said. “I’ve always liked the Texans. To be a part of this program and what they’re building going forward, there’s a lot of positivity. I have a lot of family in Houston. That helps a whole lot as I try to get this brotherhood and learn with my brothers on the fly.”

Texans coach Bill O’Brien was generally complimentary of Clark.

“Tough situation on coming in midweek,” O’Brien said. “That’s kind of the way it is with our philosophy and how we do things. Sometimes, that happens, but I thought he went in there and battled. He’ll get better and better as we keep teaching him the offense. We’ve just had him a couple of days and went in there and had to play a game. That’s a credit to him.”

I dunno, but I'm nervous as hell about going against the juice KC will be throwing at us off of the edge next week. God I hope Duane Brown is ready to go at LT because the idea of Clark having to handle Houston or Halie on passing downs worries, it's going to be tough enough if Duane can go.
And you gotta know this Clark can't be very good if all the Broncos demand for him is a 7th round pick.

Unless Clark was auditioning as a human turnstile.
Two days into a system is not a good time to evaluate a player. It would be different if he was experienced in the system like Case was when picked up at the end of last season.

But his learning curve has to be quick as a veteran. He needs to be adequate within a few games.

Clark was let go because he was a disaster at RT so saying he has interchangeable skills is laughable. He was horrendous last evening. You don't have to "know" the system to keep the opponent from running over and around you. He did not have to block "in the system" his first game to be a plus; just keep the other guy away from the QB. He failed miserably. Hopefully, he will not see field again for several weeks allowing him to get better or for someone else to be signed.

Chris Clark comes to us in a trade for our 7th round 2016 pick...................the 7th round pick we got in trade from the Rams for Case. Who says Case was a wasted pick up and wasn't valuable to the Texans.

Case was a UDFA signing at first and then last season he was picked off the Rams PS before being traded back to them for that 7th rounder. So, the Texans pretty much got something for nothing involving Case 3 times.

We're talking about the fourth preseason game. There's no system. Clark was getting schooled by guys who aren't going to be playing in the NFL, in straight up 1 on 1 match ups.

Let's hope we don't need him in a game that counts.

Today's starting line...

LT: Chris Clark
LG: Derek Newton
C: Ben Jones
RG: Brandon Brooks
RT: Jeff Adams

Is anyone going to jack with Mal if he gets the ball out quick today?

Other than Mr teX obviously.
It's exactly what the offense calls for, so not at all.

Plus, those preseason reps will help him work around newly configured line...

It is up to Ryan Mallett to help Clark and Adams at the offensive tackle spots. Has to get the ball out on time today to slow the pass rush.

Brady does this all the time.

That just affirms to me they don't watch a lot of football. Heck, they weren't even watching the other side of the ball last week, because Alex Smith ate our lunch getting rid of the ball quick.

To me, the quick pass is like a boxer's jab. He throws it out there to measure the opponent's defense while simultaneously keeping him an arms length away. A skilled boxer uses that jab to set up the whole match, to help him determine when to throw the hook, the cross, the uppercut.

I'd hate to image what would happen to Hoyer under these circumstances.

As much as I expected them to keep the right side intact for continuity purposes, I must say I do feel pretty good about this choice of starting lineup. Mainly, because priority #1 should have been to get Jeff Adams out of any G spot, and I didn't feel particularly comfortable with a newly-signed waiver jumping in and knowing the plays in less than a week.

I'm reasonably comfortable with the 2 new tackles, given the circumstances..

We're on the Mallett...

Clark was looking like a bad trade in the first half but got slightly better in the second half. Hopefully, Duane Brown will come back next week.
