• Started 14 regular-season games and three playoff contests at left tackle in place of injured All- Pro Ryan Clady in 2013 as part of an offensive line that allowed the fewest sacks (20) in the NFL.

• Started every game at left tackle during his final three seasons at the University of Southern Mississippi, earning All-Conference USA recognition following his senior year.

• Played in the New Orleans High School All-Star Game and was named an All-District offensive guard as a senior at McDonogh 35 High School in New Orleans.

They needed to upgrade the reserve OLine spots. I wonder if they'll give any consideration to playing him at guard. LG is a real weak spot.

Posted this in the other thread but will post it here as well...

He's been a swing tackle for them as well as playing some OG. Has been solid at both. Don't be surprised if he gets a shot at LG.

We could see him starting at OT though if Brown isn't ready to go week 1.

That's where we need the most help, imo.

Clark had started 17 games, including the Broncos' postseason run to the Super Bowl, in place of the injured Ryan Clady at left tackle in 2013. When Clady returned last year, the Broncos counted on Clark to make the switch to right tackle.

But after starting the first five games last year, Clark was benched for Paul Cornick, then Louis Vasquez, who was bumped outside from guard. There was even a three-game spell last season when Clark wasn't even given a uniform to serve as a backup tackle or special teamer.

"It was just an adjustment for me that took a little longer than I expected," Clark said of the move from left to right tackle. "I was expected to excel at that spot immediately, and it took some time. I had never really played on that side."

Given Clark's struggles at right tackle last year, it was surprising he stayed put after Clady suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury during the first day of OTAs last month. Instead, the Broncos switched Sambrailo from Clark's backup at right tackle over to No. 1 left tackle.

Anyone who isn't 300 pounds and athletic — which conservatively accounts for 99.8 percent of the general population — might be surprised at the drastic difference between playing left tackle and right tackle. Most people think: Block the guy in front of you. How difficult can the adjustment be?

For Clark, a left tackle in high school, college and first six seasons in the NFL, right tackle was like asking a natural left-handed hitter to switch-hit and bat righty.

"It's a switch of the hips," Clark said. "On the left side your dominant side is your right arm and right leg. On the right side your dominant side is your left leg and left arm. I wasn't used to using those limbs as often. If you asked Ryan Clady to be a right tackle, he would not be the same. It's one of those things where you have to play it to know. Any tackle in the league would agree with what I'm saying. It's not a cakewalk at all."

The zone-blocking system favored by Broncos' first-year head coach Gary Kubiak and offensive coordinator Rick Dennison will help. One reason why Clark grew up playing on the "blind side" is left tackles tend to be longer and nimbler to handle the opponents' premier pass rushers. Right tackle is usually given to the more brutish-type blockers.

The zone system, though, wants all linemen — left, right and center — to have quick feet and possess the athleticism to get out to the second level and throw a cut block on a linebacker or safety.

To keep his starting job, Clark will have to fend off challenges from Ryan Harris and Michael Schofield during training camp and the preseason. But Clark is the favorite to start regular-season game 1 against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 13.

"I'm feeling really good, I'm ready to go," Clark said. "I don't worry about having something to prove to anybody, but I'm ready to prove myself that I know I can play this game at right tackle."

I'm thinking insurance for Duane Brown's injury and replacement as swing for J.Adams.

Clark slots in just behind Duane Brown as second oldest OL at 29.

Hope he can contribute positively to our depth. He lost his job to a rookie and Ryan Harris at RT. Last year, the Broncos OL performance was relatively poor. Peyton's quick release saved the Broncos from their pass protection stats looking terrible, but not enough to save him from multiple hits and injury.

Chatter became louder. At one point, Julius Thomas caught a touchdown pass during drills and blurted, "This is too easy."

The embers soon grew into a flame.

The trenches can become fire pits, and Wednesday didn't disappoint. Texans defensive end J.J. Watt squared off with Broncos right tackle Chris Clark. Clark pulled off Watt's helmet, drawing a flag and Watt's advice.

"Don't get mad when you get beat!" Watt said with a strut befitting his all-pro status.

Is it just me or does Chris Clark sort of remind you of Rick Smith?
I love his attitude. Good addition to the team. He'll be good depth.

We're trading a 7th round pick for him, how good can he really be?
Probably the best, most experienced guy they could get at this point. I bet Kubes has given us the inside line on a player that was getting cut but ain't too bad. When your picking up guys at this point in the offseason, it's a case of desperate times calling for desperate measures.

Chris Clark should provide good swing depth at tackle and a player to step in at LT if anything went wrong w/ D.Brown. Athletic, not strong

While I liked UDFA Kendall Lamm & the way he's progressing, trusting him at be the swing tackle at this stage might be a bit much for Texans

Based on how he did at RT, I hope Clark doesn't "swing both ways"! Did I really say that?

PDS @PatDStat
They will throw Clark in at tackle vs. the Cowboys. Mentions he has experience on the inside at guard.

Drew Dougherty ‏@DoughertyDrew
O'Brien: Clark will be a swing tackle. Smart, veteran player. Will bring toughness, experience to position. Will play Thurs @ Cowboys.

O'Brien at podium. Said Chris Clark is in building already.

Clark is better than any OT not named Brown or Newton on the roster, so upgrades are good. I remember how good Newton played at RG when Brooks was hurt last yr. Since he played LT I imagine he would be a major upgrade at LG. Although I don't think that is going to happen.

Brown/Newton/Jones/Brooks/Clark.

Give me a RB with speed and this is a playoff team.

yes you did so cut it out! "Cut it out"..get it? I crack me up!

On a serious note, are we sure Clark plays LT rather than Newton if Brown out?

The only statement I've heard from OB is that he will play TACKLE in the Dallas game. I think from last year's failed conversion experiment to the RT position (Clark's), we would rather not confuse the OL composition more than it is now, and at least leave the RT in the hands of a player that we know excels in that position already.

Case is locked in as Back-up to Nick Foles. Good for him, not sure a back-up to a back-up OL is fair trade but in most cases, 7th rd. picks with exception of Diles & Newton are complete flyers.

Chris Clark comes to us in a trade for our 7th round 2016 pick...................the 7th round pick we got in trade from the Rams for Case. Who says Case was a wasted pick up and wasn't valuable to the Texans.

Case = Swing OT (Clark) and 2 W's on short notice to keep his team in the playoff race. Yes, Keenum had great value to the Texans.

On a side note, is this Keenum's 4th yr in the NFL? If so it's his 4th yr and he will get a pension, which is what I was rooting for in Case's career. Better than sitting out in the cold in a deer stand.

BOB should be on Keenum's Christmas list. BOB really did him a favor and in return Keenum played well for BOB on short notice.

Yes, his 4th year...........a pension and possibly a gold watch.....:)

Ripped the scab right off that wound, didn't they?

My thought would be Newton replaces DB and Adams replaces Newton at RT. Clark would be available if Newton goes down while playing LT and for OG.

Looks to me like Clark is primarily here for depth behind Brown at LT. He can play both sides but his time at RT hasn't been pretty. This allows us to keep Newton on the right side even if Brown were to miss time.

He could have added value as competition at LG. I think he can play there (possibly even start considering what we have at the position) and then move out to OT as needed.

Duane Brown said he'd be ready for our first game, which is good because Clark was unimpressive in the scrubs game.
