Everything you wrote makes it clear Dillard was the much better pick.
I would have liked to see Dillard here, but much better? He fell to #22, no one envisioned Philly (or anyone) trading up for him at that point

What do you mean no one envisioned that? He was projected as high as a mid first. Tytus was projected as a second rounder.
NO ONE foresaw Philly taking an OL in the first! Man your hate of all things OB is really clouding your mind.
Anyone can trade up at anytime, especially for a guy who has fallen slightly below his projection.
This one mistake alone is not horrible. It's all of the mistakes compounded over the years.

You keep repeating this as though its a knock on Howard. Lots of tackles start in the NFL as guards, hell Tunsil did, and Dillard won't even play this season so....
Also yeah the scouts did report Dillard as better , but also the scouts don't go to smaller schools or study them like they do the D1 schools. Plus we only saw like ESPN scout reports, not the actual team scout reports and all the teams seem to think very highly of him. Now all that being said no I wouldn't have taken him in the first but then I wouldn't have taken Dillard either. I don't think Dillard was worth a first round but he happen to be in a draft that was very light on quality tackles and very heavy on teams that needed them so that upped his value. Even still he fell all the way to 22 and might have fallen further if Eagles hadn't jumped. Its also to me very telling that the team that valued him the most is a team that was drafting him for depth and not to be a day 1 starter.
Dillard is a great 1-2 year project that will be Eagles answer for the next 10 years. Howard is a decent day 1 starter that could have filled a hole that Texans had today and maybe an answer for the next 10 years. Both were drafted where they will fit in best.

Slightly below? Dude fell nearly 10 picks...that's a massive slide my brother.
I wanted Dillard amd would've traded into the top 10 for him. If Howard develops into a 10 yr starter at LG or RT then he will have been an excellent pick.
I think Howard will be playing RT at some point this season after Henderson gets hurt or suspended.
Last time for me. Dillard was much more highly rated than Howard. If we had traded up, it's true .... we would not have anyone to represent us in water polo .... but seriously, spending a 3rd there, would have saved us 2 - 1st and a 2nd. That's not a minor mistake ... it ruins the next two drafts !
The whole Clowney affair was a fiasco. If we are going to keep Bob, (which, of course, I am against), we must get General Manager, an Offensive Coordinator, and a Director of Player of Personnel. Bob has proven that he is not good at those ! Maybe he should be the team to press liaison !

Everything has been addressed & mostly in a big way. I know most don't like the way it was done. I don't.
Most teams don't wait to do it all 8 days before the season opens though. Has anybody ever made as many significant trades like that between camp ending and week 1?
It's like everyone saw how the Clowney deal went down and couldn't wait to get on the phone with the Texans.
And DW4 keeps getting killed for 2019. Dillard would not be a stud LT on the getgo. He is just a prospect, just like Howard, maybe better, maybe not, but we paid the ransom to protect DW4 now. We likely want to extend him next summer, and we don't need him thinking we don't care about him, his health and his career. All this build through the draft is fine, but we had failed to get this done in time so are paying a price. My .02Last time for me. Dillard was much more highly rated than Howard. I totally get what you suspect could have been. But just because drafting Dillard may have saved us those picks that were traded doesn't mean that the confidence of the staff would have been the same as it is now with Tunsil. I have zero faith in Devlin/OB developing ANY o-line prospect. That scares me about Howard/Sharping. Hell I even chose Dillard in a draft simulator but it I think it would have been the same feelings as with the 2 we actually did draft. I think Tunsil will be fine as long as they leave him alone at LT.Last time for me. Dillard was much more highly rated than Howard. It’s amazing how a team can win 11 games in spite of its HC/OC. Those 11 wins are on Watson’s magic, Crennel’s D and pure ******* luck.Your little sister can win 11 games in the NFL? I'm on board for signing her up.
Been saying this since they didn't want to pay up for Trent Brown.

I’m not sure Watson processes the information fast enough at the NFL level. NFL “ open” is barely a cousin to NCAAF “open”. IMHO, Watson holds the ball a split second too long checking if his 1st read is really covered or is coming open.I don't think he's blaming Watson. He keeps saying, "We have to design a better play." Which puts the blame on his staff.
But yeah, he keeps saying the ball has to come out, doesn't say why it didn't.
Which I'd love to know. We saw in pictures Watson had options & opportunities, just didn't take them. We don't know why. We speculate he's looking for the big play, but it may very well he didn't see them or didn't trust them.
I think he's been looking for the big play. He needs to take up boxing. Learn what the jab is, how to use it to see how his opponent is going to fight & then use it to set up the crosses & upper cuts.

In that scenario what is OBriens job?

Not to worry. Carl Smith was brought in to show Watson how to be more like Russell Wilson.I think he shows a lack of understanding or vision at the LOS. The protection was bad, but a lot of that, I think a lot of that was on the guy calling the play. Free rushers, combobulated looking OL, RB on his left when he should be on his right.
I honestly believe BO'b put way too much on his plate. The whole offense. Not just protection, but routes too. Looks like he has the whole offense at his command.
But he's a smart guy. Hopefully he'll have mastered enough of it to be dangerous from the pocket.

Hey, alt least we now have a QB that actually looks downfield for a change.
Anyway, back to the OL. Anyone have an idea what the starting OL lineup is for Monday?

If that transformation happens, I will consider Smith's hire to be the best move of all the off-season moves.

How long before Howard replaces Henderson at RT? Hopefully soon.
Tunsil/Sharping/Martin/Fulton/Howard
Exactly
Apparently any booger eater can win 11 games with a crappy OL and a QB coming off of an ACL. Plus you figure in playing with a collapsed lung.
I don't understand how someone can say this in hindsight. I understand you are saying that's how good a prospect you think he is.
But Dillard falling to 22 shows how wrong the "experts" assessed team needs vs perceived available talent.
I could understand someone saying, "I'd have traded up to the low teens." Or even "as soon as he fell out of the top 10."
But into the top 10? That's a little much.
How did that happen. I'm sure it had nothing to do with O'Briens oline carousel
Lack of talent on the OL due to yrs of neglect is how this happened. Lack of draft picks 2 yrs ago and failure to trade up this past draft is how it happened. Before these last 2 drafts dysfunction between RS/BOB is what lead to the neglect.
How did that happen. I'm sure it had nothing to do with O'Briens oline carousel
Rick had already been gone two seasons. He's now gone for 3
And O'Brien is still playing oline carousel. Who is starting anyway?
My guess is Roderick replaces Seantrel and Kelemente replaces Howard. I have no confidence in Seantrel and the rookies
And the 1st yr they didn't have the picks in the draft due to RS trade for Watson and RS incompetence in the Os deal.
Yr 2 they drafted Howard/Scharping and traded for Tunsil, again what more did you expect them to do?
Why dont you have confidence in the rookies?
I don't have confidence in any rookie
I don't have confidence in any rookie
Draft Dillard and sign nsekhe
That's on you then, rookies contribute to teams every yr.
Even a rookie starting his 1st game should be an upgrade over what we saw last year. By game 6 I expect alo
They traded for Tunsil and drafted Howard/Scharping. Different visions but close to the same.
