Ryan Mallett

Based upon what? Draft position? Where did you see this "potential"?

I don't know how fast Posey is anymore, but he was pretty fast & tall.... I like fast, tall receivers.

I liked Keyshawn early on. Seemed to get open all the time, just couldn't catch. Demaris..... fast as heck, but watching on TV I'm not seeing him running past too many people & if we're not going to send them deep, I'd rather have the "fast, tall" receiver.

We're not even using the little Johnson on kick-off or punt returns. If we're not going to use him as a receiver, it's frustrating not to activate Posey.

I just think it's much ado about nothing. Johnson and Martin average 3 targets a game between them. Would Posey get more? I think a change at QB could/would make a bigger impact than a change at the little used slot WR position.

He's never played them as far as I know. Not in college or HS

That applies to a lot of players coming out of college or HS. Either make the effort to be multifunctional, or remain inactive. It's not rocket science.

Put Mallet in the game, next drive please.
Fitz is playing just as bad as Mettenberger. Might as well see what we have in Mallett against a sorry team.

As I type this, Arian scoring the touchdown may have prolonged Fitz staying in there longer. :kubepalm:

Titans are too inept on offense to score. No Mallett this week.

For those who so desperately want Mallet, just watch Mettenburger and you'll see why OB won't put him in.

Why wasn't Mallett given some reps in the last half of 4th quarter? Is he in OB's doghouse? Mettenberger ended up doing a decent job, and if Mallett is like him...

He can work on his hand offs in practice. Wasn't going to gain anything w the score and situation.

And this is after being in NFL for how many years? Mallet looked worse in preseason than Met. Why the hell did BOB bring him in? I think to protect Fitz because if Case was here the yelling would be even louder.

Awesome

Rodgers pulled his hammy and is crapping the bed, so it looks like my team is screwed.

Happiest moment of my life when that happened lol. My undefeated team was down on Thurs because of Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Gates. Then today I get huge games from Foster, Forte, and the Dolphins DST. My friend had Rodgers and Cobb go off in the beginning, and I was like
snoop.png
. I was only up 20 with a half to play, which is nothing for Rodgers, Cobb, and Mason Crosby. But then Rodgers threw some picks and a hammy, and now I'm like
whoo.png
, undefeated season still in tack. Blowing out fools yo. Over 850 pts kn the season not counting today.

Wait till next week and philly brings their high powered offense.

The Texans have already played the #1, #2 and #4 rated offenses in the league and lost all three games by a combined 15 points.

The Eagles are give up a lot of points on defense and the shutout against the Giants is the only thing keeping them from being in the bottom 5 in the league. They have a horrible run defense at #22 and the Texans have Foster playing in peak form right now.

Philly is the second worst at giveaways, while the Texans are second best at takeaways.

Not predicting a win, but having played close games against high powered offenses, having Foster to dictate some ball control strategy and taking advantage of the turnover opportunities has me thinking another close one.

Will still expect Fitz to not be able to seal the deal on a close one, but still think it will be close nonetheless.

You make solid points in this post and the one in the other thread .... Being at home , it sure appears to be a more winnable game than I had given credit for on the surface.

I hate moral victories, but we've already had three this year and I think this will be another one. We hang close, but can't close. This team still hasn't learned how to do that, which is what makes an average team a really good team.

I'd have been satisfied with a season filled with moral victories .... had we been developing a quarterback instead of going with a journeyman who does not improve our chances of winning in the future .... and who's every W reduces the chances of getting that player in the next draft meaning we are likely in the same position next year.

Guess I'll have to start the "who's your quarterback:2015 edition" soon.

They have TOOOOOONNNSSSS of speed at the skill positions on offense and defense though and you know that is this defense's achilles heel. We could very well see 1 of our 24-28 pt meltdowns on defense again.

I hate to make your day, but think about this: there's a good chance Mallet will be gone after this season, which means we have to draft another QB. Good, but this QB at best will be mid-round or lower. And it seems as if OB does not like playing young QB's in his "complicated" offense. Fitz has one more year on his contract; so it's reasonable to expect Fitz to start the season next year as he continues to groom his QB of the future.

For us to win, we'll have to slow the game down and keep their defense on the field. Foster will have to have a big game; and on defense, Watt. Clowney will have to be healthy and be capable of making some plays. The odds will be with Philly, but an upset is there for the taking.

You don't necessarily have to start a young QB to be developing him. We're not going to know what our future QB situation is and how well OB and Smith prepared for it until we get to the future.

Terrell Davis was covered in a recent "A Football Life". He got the attention of his coaches his rookie season during the first pre-season game. He was a late round draft pick and last on the roster at running back, but he knocked the crap out of an opponent and ended up as a starter by the end of pre-season.

Check out this video of that tackle.

I've got a lot of respect for football players that are willing to do anything in order to get playing time. Davis, for instance, was not about being a snob and ONLY playing running back. He was given a chance on special teams and owned it.

Posey, and whoever else, should learn from Terrell Davis.

yeah, i saw that episode, very good. But i think its more of guys ceasing the moment. Posey hasn't quite done that. Some of it isn't his fault (injuries) and some of it is. I just know once BoB got here, that was his best chance to come out of the shadows and be a factor. Instead, he didn't perform well enough, allowed enough doubt to creep into BoB's mind for him to bring in Demaris Johnson over him. This same post could be applied to Keyshawn Martin as well, but at least he gets to suit up every week.........I don't know why b/c he makes 0 impact on ST's but he does get a few touches every week.

Not sure what IDP is ..... This is just a standard ESPN league.

Individual Defensive Player.
In some leagues, you draft 4 or so defensive players in lieu of an entire NFL team's defense/special teams.

The combined score for all of your IDPs will usually be quite a bit higher than the score you get from def/s.t.

HD tv has really spoiled us. That was barely watchable lol.

No , not that kind of league.

O'Brien was not about to let anything happen to increase the call for the backup. That's why you did not see Mallet for mop up IMO.

That's exactly what it was because it is otherwise totally inconsistent with his assertion we will see Mallett play this season.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner!

You know how best to avoid a QB controversy? You don't plan anyone else. At that point in game it was all about running the ball and killing clock.

He certainly would have made his case for the job with all those hand-offs to Blue and Grimes.

It was 27-9 at the start of the 4th. O'Brien could have sent Mallett in for the entire 4th with an 18 point lead. 43 seconds into the 4th we scored a FG making it a 21 point lead. There were 6 pass attempts in the entire 4th quarter.

Why would he insert Mallett at the start of the 4th? We were in the midst of a scoring drive that was already into Tennessee territory. Nobody would change QB's at that exact moment. You let the current QB finish the drive because you don't want to insert a cold QB into the game and end a possible chance at scoring. Once we go up 30-9 and Tennessee goes 3 and out I can definitely see you inserting Mallett into the game to get some reps.

It's hard to see him making any legitimate play for the starting job in a 30-9 game where he's only going to throw 2-3 passes at most. Naturally 2-3 throws would be enough for most of this board to announce him as the new starting QB, but no coaching staff is going to see that sample size and decide to make the switch next week because of it.

I do think he should have entered the game at some point in the 4th quarter and would like to see him get some garbage time reps just so he can get some actual live reps (because he's had so little in his career). I don't think those garbage tiem reps mean anything toward claiming the starting job but you can't reproduce live reps and he's going to be starting a game at some point so you might as well try and acclimate him some when you have the opportunity.

I agree with you about mid-drive, but try backing it up a little. We started the drive up 27-9 with a little over 2 mins left in the 3rd. Wouldn't have been a bad time at all to put him in. There were 8 passes from then.

You beat me to it.

Yeah, we all are very eager to see how smooth Mallet handoffs look like to our second depth rbs. And when we get to 3rd & long let's put it on the cold shoulder of a QB playing in a loud environment that hasn't had much reps with our starting oline and wrs. What could go wrong? It's not like this team can give up 24pts in one quarter.
