Nick Caserio - New GM

Welcome to Houston Nick. I guess I am in the minority, because I am absolutely stoked with this hire.
Now I am keeping my fingers crossed that Nick looks away from Daboll and brings in Joe Brady!

He has the smarts for this job and I feel lile he will not attempt to create a New..New England and will opt to venture down a new path.

Here’s hoping that he plucks a REAL offensive line coach from somewhere. I believe our group can still be saved. I’m anxious now. Who will he pick for the HC gig? Who will be our new DC? I need answers!
What's going to really suck, is Kelly & Weaver will stay in their current positions

Well, my default position on this I don't like it. I wanted Eastercrap gone and a new start. No More New England. But if this is it, then fine. I wish Casino all the luck in the world and hope he rights this lost ship and brings us to the promised land.

When a new coach is hired I definitely hope he will hire his own personal.
If I were Cal unless we hire a retread, I'd caution my first time HC against bringing in his own staff.

I'd try to talk him into starting with the group we have now & work on building his team in the future.

If he suggests a Matt Patricia or an ex HC, or a coordinator currently out of work, that's fine, let's go get him.

But I don't want my first time HC managing a first time OC & DC managing a first time WR/LB//DB/ST coach...

We're not the Browns/Lions/Chargers who will fire a HC in two years.

I don't know what to think.

We should all be in "hide and watch" mode. The Texans will do what they will do and all we can do is wait and see how things play out. As TK pointed out, Caserio has been their choice for a couple of years now. I do admit that the Easterby angle has a soap opera feel to it. If this were the Dallas Cowboys, I'd be betting he shot JR.

I agree with the bolded, but Cal fired OB just shy of two years after Bob McNair passed away. The Chargers aren't known for firing a HC after 2 years, btw.

I'm not to thrilled about this hire for the reason that the Patriots are fairly average in the talent evaluation department when NC was in charge.
Brady was before his time.
And the Pats have had their own hits and misses since then.
Players that went on to other teams, overall, don't do as well.

What NC has is a lot of experience all-around, and maybe that's what the Texans need.

The way I think, the Texans still need a good talent evaluator.

LOL, true that.
They're keeping us on our tail to see what will happen to Easterby.

Think Dorsey will take an advisory job if he cant get a GM gig?

This has always been the rub with the Pats: who made the personnel calls other than BB? We don't know. What I infer from the Pats is that BB is much better at coaching up the talent that he has and scheming to their strengths than he (or whomever) is at drafting exceptionally talented players.

To your point on talent acquisition. Over the past seven years, Patriots have drafted ONE Pro Bowler and that was a punter.

Caserio is perfectly qualified to be a full GM. In fact, the resume is great. All but the title of GM and final say in New England (if previous rumors correct), experienced and young with a ton of league contacts. Way more good than bad there.

The problem is the how Caserio got here with awkward failed hiring in 2019, friend of a "controversial" figure in Jack Easterby, and interview search where he was the guy all along.

The Patriots thing does not bother me although that New England tree has not really produced that good coaching/executive fruit.

TEXANS be like... "Hold my beer and watch this!".

This team has ZERO self awareness.. the last thing anyone wanted was another NE hire. I wonder what the players are thinking?
Most of the players need to be worrying about which teams need depth at their respective positions. The rest should be hoping Caserio hits a grand slam with the HC he chooses.
