Robert Woods at 195 or Dell at 165 have seniority. Perhaps we should check out McConkey or worthy that some posters are clamoring for? Or Ricky Pearsall or McMillan? Yes Franklin is considered lanky but he is not going to be a fullback so not sure why you brought it up?

Made Bruce Feldman's Freaks list.
Is a tenacious blocker and is plenty big enough to play TE.
His downside is he needs polish on his route running and his hands are not quite there but that can be fixed.
I'm sure Slowik would have fun cooking up plays with this guy - and I imagine the end zone would feature.

I don’t think it’s terrible, but allocation of resources is a concern. if you sign Barkley and Evans, you’re not leaving room for a difference maker on defense. I would also sign Schultz over Everett.
Thanks to our vaunted GM’s propensity to sign guys to prove it deals, we have a league high number of our own FA’s to deal with as well. That large cap will largely be spent in house, but they aren’t totally incapable of a splash or two in FA if they are careful.
Given that, I favor Henry at RB. If they can make Barkley work…I’m loving the player…just wondering about the $$$.
At WR, instead of Evans at ridiculous money, give me Calvin Ridley, Darnell Mooney from the Bears, or Curtis Samuel. Mooney intrigues me. He had over 1000 yards in 21 so the talent is there, but QB play and a run heavy offense might make him a great value pick. Ridley is loaded with talent but was inconsistent, and Curtis Samuel is a poor man’s Deebo Samuel…no relation ironically. Much better value in any of these three.

Ya know, with Diggs here in Houston for likely only one year, it might be wise for Texans to draft a WR anyway just to see what you got and bring the rookie along so he can hit the ground running in '25.
That way if the rook does not look good you can take another swing in '25.
It doesn't have to be a high pick but if a guy Texans like is available with one of those 4ths, I personally wouldn't be mad - especially in a draft as deep as this one.
We only have Noah Brown for 1 more year on his contract as well.

true but there are a lot of good players that I would be more than satisfied with at 42 and 59. I am more concerned with our outside cornerbacks than interior but that's probably just me. I also don't think that Ryan's is going to draft at either of those two positions a safety or a right tackle. I am hedging my bets on putting a defensive tackle at 42 from what I see of the roster.
Saintistil, Khyree Jackson, Payton wilson, Leggett; Kris Abrams-Draine and Brandon dorlus are going to have better careers than being given credit. I think Brenden Rice right there also.

Love Newton and Sanristil would be a great pick as a nickle CB. Newton with just about any other pick would make me very happy.

This depends on what you think of Newton, I think his ceiling is Donald and his floor is Geno Atkins. Either way a great player and by adding Newton the Pass rush would be so good that the other outside CB shouldn't be a worry. You run Stingley 1 on 1 on one side and zone on the other side. You would need to upgrade the S position either in the draft or FA and they have the cap room to add a vet S upgrade.

Realistically his floor is definitely below Geno - that's an insane hyperbolic floor.

Sure but I think the argument could also be made that if you had a McKinstry opposite Stingley, you wouldn't have to worry so much about your defensive line. It's all good and we're going to end up with two very good players in my opinion. And that is if we don't trade down for more pics. Also a guy named Xavier Leggett who I think you brought to the board could be a outstanding long-term starter for Houston. I am really enjoying this off season and talking about the draft. I still think we're going to see some other teams veteran cuts before game one and maybe even shortly thereafter that could benefit our roster.

True but those same free agents through their own agent could be looking at the salary cap space for Houston rubbing their hands and chuckling while they hold out for the big payday. I think Simmons is one of them.

I've got Newton ranked much higher than McKinstry. McKinstry is a good CB bottom of the 1st, top of the 2nd type guy.

I would only draft a receiver in the 2nd if somehow one of the projected 1st rounders fell to us. I am fine with finishing fixing the defense this year and pick up a receiver in the first round next year. Now that we have Diggs a receiver is a luxury this year. I have high hopes for Hutchinson and Metchie (full year after cancer recovery) they were both basically rookies last year. Let's see if they grow.

since I made this post earlier today I just went to tankathon and see that Leggett has dropped to 3.70! I am stunned by this and have no clue as to why other than just some mocks movie players up and down the last few weeks before the draft.
Understand your point but this roster with last season's accomplishments; if we can get a Stephon Diggs in round 2 let alone 3rd, I just don't see how Ryans would not do that. Yes wide receiver is a luxury in this second day of the draft. But we see people calling for drafting Cooper or Wilson when we have three starting linebackers now. Let's not forget that To'oTo'o was doing pretty well before he was injured.
We are pretty well set at defensive tackle but we are talking about drafting Johnny Newton if they're at 42.
I don't see Legette out of round 2 and possibly going round 1 as could Cooper or Newton. This is a very unusual draft and why I called for trading down from 23 for seconds and thirds. Ryans agreed.
2.42 Newton 2.59 McKinstry 3.70 trade up for Legette and earlier in round 3 trade up for Wilson.
Too Too is a fine backup LB and ST's guy. In no world should he be a starting LB for 16 games.
Love Legette and if he fell to the top of the 3rd trading up to get him should be on the table. 3-86, 4-123, 6-188 should be enough to get a deal done. The CB I really like at 2-59 is Melton. Fast can play inside or outside. Since I'm terrible at evaluating CB's what do you think of Melton?
I would absolutely be fine with trading out of 59 for a couple of 3rds or whatever the draft chart worked out to. This is a deep draft

His 10 yards is 1.51; below 1.50 I consider elite for either position. 5'11 and I prefer 6' minimum but wouldn't rule him out.
He is ranked just above average in man coverage but barely adequate in zone which is as you know we see on the field. In 2021 and 2022 his stats while good he had an average qbr when targeted. In 2023, he maintained his statistics but tremendously improved his qbr when targeted. Just my opinion and as I stated, I did not watch him during live game action, I think his stats and qbr are as significant as they are due to his opponents. Personally I would not want to draft him as I see others as better. I think most people have him correctly at late round two to mid round 3.
Mike Sainristil is usually seen as inside only due to hight but at 5'9.5" should be able to hold his own because of crazy good skills and on field intelligence. He could be a phenomenon.
Kris Abrams-Draine is better outside than Sainristil..for now but Sainristil plays both .
Khyree Jackson is the guy I just can't get out of my mind's eye. Watching him play at his almost six foot four is hard to ignore at 4.50 speed . You just don't see guys that tall with his hip action, swivel and knee bend. Most seem to compare him with 6 ft guys that are slightly better in back pedal but I just don't agree. I would love to have any or all three of these if that could be worked. All , I like better than Melton.

I disagree with you about 2 2 basically because he played out of position for the most part in 2023. If I remember correctly he was a middle linebacker for Alabama. As far as Max Melton , as he played for Rutgers, I did not watch him live game but only on film and reading other sources evaluation. Having said that, he plays outside/man press at 4.39 which is what I like. Great vertical at 40.5 in which is another indicator that a lot of people seem to ignore but is extremely important for wide receivers and cornerbacks.

I'm really on board with CB- Khyree Jackson (Oregon) and I'm really on board with adding CB- Miles Battle (Utah) later in the draft. Miles was not invited to the Combine (???) but had himself an eye-opening Pro Day. At 6-3 and 197 pounds....he popped a 4.37-40. I hope everyone stays lost on this guy b/c he can cover and play the run. I just don't understand how some guys like this slip through the cracks. Also, a former All-District Cy-Creek HS athlete. Let's bring him home.

He switched after 3 years at Ole Miss to Utah perhaps lost in shuffle? I had to find him on my list of undrafted free agents for this off season. You are correct that he has the size and 40 speed but he only started two games if I remember correctly while playing in all this last season. You can be sure he and others like him will be on Nicks radar but I would be surprised if we used a round seven on him.
Utah did have great defense and good record.

Battle played all games including bowl games in 21, 22, and 23. 18 and 20 were abbreviated seasons...not sure if it was Covid or due to injury. He did play 10 games in 19. He didn't do too bad at Ole Miss, but did deliver for the Utes in 2023. I seen him projected in RD7 and just stumbled across another sire that him projected in RD6. His 4.37-40 could move him up on some boards.

I'd like to ask, since I don't do mocks, how far is Michigan OG Zak Zinter falling. He broke both his fibula and his tibia in November and likely will be on PUP to start the season. May miss the whole year. If still on the board in the 6th, I'd take a flier on him as a prospective replacement for Mason in 2025.
Weird that I didn't really notice him when I checked out Bishop. I did like the Utes other S Viataki (SP?) though
Somebody will pick him higher than that IMHO.

I like Melton; he's at the top of my CBs (those who may be on the board at 59). But the CB draft is much deeper than Safety. So I'm looking at safeties Nubin/Bishop/Bullard for 2/59. And then cornerbacks Pritchett/James at 3/86.
I'm hoping Wilson falls to us at 2/42.
If Wilson isn't there at 42, well, I fell asleep last night thinking on this. With the way free agency went for us, the closest prospect to make an impact in 2024, despite his question marks, is T'Vondre Sweat.
If we take Wilson at 42 and Sweat is there at 59, I'm in a bit of a pickle. But I like small school sleeper Kristian Boyd for the DL1T position in the 4th. So I think I'm sticking with my DBs to finish out the 2nd day.

Zinter has fallen out of the top 100 but even before his broken appendage, I was not that high on him. Probably because I believe our guard positions will be filled from what we have on the roster today. I would prefer not to use lower round picks to stash guys who will not be able to play this year and perhaps not be a starter next year. I would prefer to use rounds six and seven to bundle to move up or in trade scenarios.

I agree in regards to the IOL having the available manpower to find three solid starters.
This team needs to select at minimum -2- OT’s b/c of Tunsil’s health, and Howard’s health plus mediocre ability. The depth isn’t anything to write home about.

people have began to do their research on the no names, unfortunately. Boyd has moved significantly but hopefully teams will have other needs. If Texans can get what we need with the first three picks I could see spending a fourth on Boyd. However if Newton is ours in round two, I would hold off and hope that Boyd falls to round 6 even if we have to use some trade up bait.

I do not disagree, but I do think in management mindset being the same as it was last year, that Nick will trust finding quality backups if and when Laremy or Tytus go out.
I'm thinking this would be a great draft, although I know it's unlikely to happen.
