I'm rooting for the Texans to lose today

Yall know my feelings on O'Brien, however this was a relatively solid game from the staff. We would've lost by 80 points against a top team, but against Fitzpatrick and a sneaky Jets team we were able to do a lot of good things. What matters most is that we won a game that had meaning. To stay tied for the lead in the division and against a team with a better record, we came out with the W. They all need to be fired in February, but this was a competent game so props to the sideline.

The worst part is that we know how this story ends. Even I can't help but start to become optimistic inspite of it. Build up just enough hope in a late season push and then ... dreams crushed.

A win is nice but this is a one sided fundamentally flawed team. Griffen appears as an UTEO for a 7 yd gain and is immediately pulled. 'Holy **** it worked, get him out of there.' Blue looks like he likes his teammates a little too much, but keeps getting the call. Our coaches get "creative" only when the QB doesn't know their epicly good offense. Fool's gold.

Yessir, but it's all I got. :fridge:

It's quite frustrating. If not for the impossibility that was 2013, we'd be in a pretty good spot right now. We were getting better in spite of Bob McNair and Rick Smith, who only appear to have slightly learned their lesson (on the nose, letter jackets, and other self indulgences seem to be gone). Instead our talent is on a rapid decline, like you said our gimmicks are better than our 'offense', we can't teach or use our personnel correctly, our 2013 quarterbacks are now 4-0 (against winning teams), and this ride has an expiration date. Unfortunately that expiration date is going to pass, and we're going to endure a spoiled product for another year or two before bringing in a new formula. Being carried by great individual talents such as Brown, Brooks, Joseph, Watt and Cushing are masking the disease underneath.

But, I'll keep rooting for a win despite myself. It's fool's gold, and that's the sad part. I and everyone else are starting to enjoy something shiny, knowing damn well that it has no value.

Which QBs from 2013 are 4-0 vs Winning teams?

Way to man up, TK. I did the same thing in another thread. The last 3 weeks, the Texans have looked competently coached and ready to execute the game plan with disciplined play on both sides of the ball. The D has much, much more talent, but we all expected to see the D we've seen the last 3 weeks all season.
Someone needs to tweet OB that keeping his stars out of PS games is a bad idea!!
But let's get real. We'd be all over him if one of our STARS were injured in a meaningless preseason game.

[response to general complaints about Blue]

One problem with the BIG SCHOOL running backs is that they get used to success following a line that physically overwhelms the opposition more often than not. That doesn't work as well in the NFL where they lose that advantage. That's what worries me about Ezekiel Ellington and Derrick Henry . I'm inclined to look for a RB who gets yards in spite of a lower quality OL in College like a Kenneth Dixon from La. Tech.

Problem is we could have kept Yates and Keenum and drafted Garapolo, Carr, Bridgewater, etc. Good win, but the whole time I wondered why OB let go of those two to begin with and brought in Hoyer, Fitz and Mallett. Seeing Yates out there is just a reminder of how incompetent OB is at handling the qb position.

Big school backs like Adrian Peterson, Todd Gurley, Jonathan Stewart, Devonta Freeman, Mark Ingram, or Le'Veon Bell?

And there's no way Ezekiel Ellington is getting drafted.

Point made, but I still worry more with big school backs.

You don't worry about level of competition for smaller school backs? If a kid is playing for Alabama then yes, he's running behind some future pros, but he's also running into future pros regularly in the SEC. If a kid is playing for Koastal Kalamazoo Tech then yes, he's not likely got road graders clearing lanes from him, but he's also playing against future shoulda-woulda-couldas. Consideration for these things works both ways.

Really it boils down to watching out for and isolating the tools they have and the intangibles that may come across and how you think those things may translate to the next level, regardless of where they go to school.

Yep. I love our Texans winning. It's just fun entertainment.

But you still have that little voice in the back of your head reminding you that this is the same team that gave us 42-0 and 41-0 in first halves of games just a matter of weeks ago.

It's like dating a girl who used to be a stripper (and not to get through college, but because she was good at it). Right now, at this point in this season, this is where she is trying to live right, go to church, and be a housewife. You feel happy, get home, dinner is cooked, house is clean...but you know, deep down, she could go back to stripping at any point to make a car note or whatever. You cannot trust the situation. (This point brought to you by other dude's experiences. I could never date a stripper. :fingergun:)

Good friend of mine when I was stationed in Austin was married to a stripper at the Red Rose. I have no frikkin idea how he handled it....too many jokes. (OK...I do know...he was a blackout crazy drunk)

Anyway...like you, I am enjoying the winning while expecting to lose. Hopefully, I won't stupidly expect them to win...and the season will stay fun.

I'm not sold on O'Brien, but he does seem to learn from his mistakes. People forget it took Pete Carroll a bit to learn the NFL....could be the same here. I don't know. :-/

O'Brien makes mistakes, but the hate for him by certain MB members because they wrongly think Kubiak was a great HC and the Texans downgraded hiring BOB is a joke. BOB is so far ahead of where Kubiak was in his 2nd yr that it's laughable. TO/Challanges/sitting on leads and blowing games etc....

The only thing Kubiak has on O'Brien is he identified his QB after 1 yr and BOB is still farting around with the Hoyer's of the world.

I guess it's all about the skills and whether they can translate at the next level. I guess even my favorite all time player played with a great offensive line at tu and was still was able to dominate at the next level as well. But you should have seen him in High School! The closest I've ever come to seeing a player LITERALLY carry his team to victory. At least he was carrying half the other team...

I was looking for a Bill O'Brien thread, but I found this on the second page & figured... why not?

I've been down on Billy O lately. Several games, we were just flat out out coached. Kansas City, Carolina, Atlanta, Miami... I don't think any of those teams are better than our Texans. I understand you win some, you lose some... but those teams' advantage was on the sideline. Their coaches.

But not today. & it wasn't just the trickeration... though that was a big part of it. I liked the overall tempo, the play calling, & getting production out of our offense whatever it took.

Good job Bill. Good job.
Agreed about the game day coaching. Where was this earlier? I'm still pissed over personnel decisions.

But, you would more than happy to spend the night with right? Me too. Ha ha, sorry wrong subject.
Now, back to our proud Texans!

Dude, just let her strip!

I think every NFL season is a journey. Very rarely are the teams the same at the end of the year as they are at the beginning. Sure, you have your Patriots who win regardless.

We're half way through our journey & while I wasn't too thrilled with where we started, I'm liking what I'm seeing & where it looks like we are headed.

They've gone undefeated since I created this thread. I should have started it before the 1st game of the season. It's nuts.

Jesus Christ, this is all getting to much to remember. You have to start a "I want the Texans to lose" thread before the season starts, then we have to have "half assed" in all the game day threads, of which none I am allowed to start. We're gonna need a spreadsheet to keep track of all this.

No lie, and when the Texans beat the bengals a guy at work (A Ravens fan) wrote **** the Bengals on our white board. I have made him write it every week every since.

I think this has been a great month of football, but for you haters I guess this has been the worst month of football ever 4-0. Ha-ha, screw you, I hope the Texans also win every game in December and January and February. How many wins for the Texans before we need to put you pathetic haters on suicide watch?

Next week is a must win if the Texans are to win the division. We play Buffalo, Colts play the Steelers, we play the Patriots while they play the 49ers, then we play eachother and we both play the Jags and Titans.

A loss to N.E. won't kill us so long as we beat Buffalo and they lose to the Steelers.

Let's go Texans!
