If Noah ends season healthy and extension occurs, we have three potential thousand yard WRs<checking watch>

I see things the way you do. But you don't pass on superior talent to fill a need. You let Brown walk and spend the money you would have spent on him in a FA to fill a need. Odunze is a weapon and putting him with Collins and Dell would be lethalIf Noah ends season healthy and extension occurs, we have three potential thousand yard WRs
+ Woods in his final contract year + Metchie who at 13/17 and 76% and Hutch as developing player.
Two questions:
Do you think we need another WR such as Odunze round1
Legette or Troy Franklin round 2
Burton round 3/4?
What do you see Caserio/ Ryans doing?
DBs also appear stronger and we have so many team needs.
Do you see these two positions as I do?
Yeah that's the way I am leaning also but not sure that casario and Ryan's would agree. There are some really good candidates in this wide receiver crop in 2024 draft. Same could be said of cornerbacks.I see things the way you do. But you don't pass on superior talent to fill a need. To address #4, Woods has had 505 snaps and was targeted 56 times with 31 receptions (55.4%).Good point. If we look at the yards per catch (YPC) for the WRs and TEs. Tank Dell (15.5), Collins (16.7), Brown (20.9), Schultz (11.4), Woods (10.5), Jordan (13.3), and Metchie (11.1). Those averages are similar to the production of the 49ers WRs and TEs. The major difference is the 49ers uses McCaffrey for those shorter routes and his YPC is 8.4.
We know that every pass play has progressions. Slowik can easily call plays that require 3 step drops or plays where the progression starts short to medium to deep. Based on their YPC, someone should be getting those McCaffrey type routes, yards and catches. Looking at the Texans offense, I have the following questions.
- Is someone open and Stroud is holding the ball and missing them or is it a feature of the offense that the offense is based on mid to deep pass plays?
- If Slowik calls quicker, shorter passes, with Dell out, who can consistently win their matchups? We seem to have long striding WRs.
- Is Slowik game planning to get a RB isolated on a LB?
- Woods has eight games with 3 or fewer catches. It doesn't seem like he is getting any separation. Could his lack of production be a factor in having to hold the ball?
Don't forget about the Xman, Xavier Hutchinson. I'll bet he and Mills have some timing down after playing together on the scout team. Dark horse fantasy pickup. This is what we have to work with.
Right and I hope so. But to date, he's been targeted only 7 times with 4 receptions; not enough to form an opinion. He's had 1 reception on 1 target deep. And 3 receptions on 5 targets short.Don't forget about the Xman, Xavier Hutchinson. I'll bet he and Mills have some timing down after playing together on the scout team. Dark horse fantasy pickup.
Yep they can play catch on sidelines. Well, except for 2-3 times X may get on field...Don't forget about the Xman, Xavier Hutchinson. I'll bet he and Mills have some timing down after playing together on the scout team. Dark horse fantasy pickup.
Depends on if any more receivers go down.Yep they can play catch on sidelines. Well, except for 2-3 times X may get on field...
If?Depends on if any more receivers go down.
Also, 2 drops in 109 targets. Collins only has 4 drops in 235 career targets.Figured this was the best place to put these stats on our non-WR1.

I'm gonna ride or die with this bunch. Hopefully ride, first. While I'm enjoying the hell out of this division win, I'm already looking forward to next fall
Yeah, looks like he is a #1 after all which eases the pressure to take one with the first pick.Too bad he isn't a WR1.
I still want the Texans to sign Mike Evans (wr1) if affordable to go along with Nico (wr2) and Tank (slot+). This will help keep all three more healthy or a nice replacement if one goes down. Then maybe draft a flyer in the later rounds but the draft should be focused on defense, o-line, and a RB.
Agree.Two things:
1. Evans will be 31 next season and we all know that with very few exceptions, WR production drops off fast at that age.
2. Nico had better stats in 15 games than Evans had in 17 games.
Maybe it is just semantics between WR1 and WR2, but next season if they were both on the same team I would expect Nico at age 25 to get more targets than Evans at age 31.
He's had 2 games in the 190's this year - how many receivers have done that this year?I started off the season on the hill of "Nico Collins is a solid #2 option". I felt pretty alone on that hill and I'd say most of the fanbase was quite a bit lower on him than that, I even saw some twitter takes in the offseason about him being a potential camp cut target.
About halfway through the season I felt pretty vindicated in my #2 WR take, felt like a lot of the fanbase had joined me there but I wasn't on board with him being a true #1.
Now I think you gotta call him a true #1. He's still not in those top tiers. We need to see just a little more consistency before I go there, but I mean he's absolutely a top 15 WR in the league at this point not sure how you don't call him a WR1.
I was right there with you buddy. I watched Nico at Michigan. Had a feeling he would be special. Injuries and not having a true quarterback was his issues in his first few seasons.I started off the season on the hill of "Nico Collins is a solid #2 option". Evans might be one of those exceptions but at wr1 or wr2, doesn't really matter in the end. Evans would have a Moss like breakout when he joined the Patriots. While we have CJ on the rookie contract, Texans can go all out until it is time to make CJ the highest paid QB everTwo things:

You never know, Mike Evans could give the Texans a hometown discountAgree.
No need to spend big dollars on a WR with the ascendancy of Nico - take a nice prospect from a deep WR class and spend that money on other needs - guys like Ja'lynn Polk and Jaylen McMillan should be available at our pick around the 95 mark.
Evans trying to get paid. I don’t see him turning down a mega contract to come play here.Evans might be one of those exceptions but at wr1 or wr2, doesn't really matter in the end. Woods is someone I'm looking hard at as cut / trade to add cap space; I want to hit FA hard.Yeah, looks like he is a #1 after all which eases the pressure to take one with the first pick.
We also have Tank Dell, but unfortunately, he may be subject to those injuries due to his size so he should be used as a third option/depth or at least reduce his workload.
Texans could draft a guy with their second pick however and still get a quality receiver in a deep class - this would give the Texans the luxury of releasing either Robert Woods or the injury prone Noah Brown.
When Tank was available, I wasn't sure if he or Nico was the WR1. I can't prove it but even with Nico playing great, the offense still doesn't seem as consistent or explosive as when Tank was available.
With that said. If it's debatable that Tank or Nico is WR1 on the Texans, I'm not ready to label him a true WR1. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that he is, but I need a larger sample size.
Yep, after watching the last few games a dynamic WR would really make this offense dangerous. Plus with Dell, Collins injury history another wr should be high on the needs list. Think how the offense would look if there was a dynamic WR opposite Collins even with Dell being out vs Woods, hurt Brown, Hutch. It also doesn't hurt that this drafts strength is the wr class.I gotta give Nick his flowers on the Collins pick. What a freaking beast for a 3rd rounder. I thought that pick was "meh" at best. I said it earlier this year but Nico is reminding me way too much of AJ. Big-bodied, tall, long strider with both grace and physicality and who gets open against nearly anyone. He's going to be a hoss for years in this offense.
It's actually two freaking beasts at WR in the 3rd round with totally different body types, each brings his unique skillset, and both young so lots of years to enjoy these two. While I'm enjoying the hell out of this division win, I'm already looking forward to next fall when we see Nico and Tank together again. Pair one more dynamic wide receiver to the mix, and it will be fun to watch.

I'm for getting Stroud the best weapons possible. If that means spending a first on a wr then so be it. Also need to add a dynamic young RB to pair with Singletary. The more weapons you give Stroud the better chance you have to win games. Plus the fact that I believe in Ryans ability to put together a top 15 defense. These are great times down on Kirby.Yeah, looks like he is a #1 after all which eases the pressure to take one with the first pick.

As long as your wrs can beat man coverage when its presented, it doesn't matter who is number 1 in a traditional sense. Its more about the collective of the group. Before the season I basically called these stats. I think they should go in the draft and select another threat in the 1st 3rds.Woods,Metchie,and Hutch are just dudes, depth pieces. When Tank was available, I wasn't sure if he or Nico was the WR1. The trenches will be fine with a healthy ol next year. What are the chances of the ol having to use 2 LT's, 3 LG's, 4 C's and 2 RT's in one year?Which hopefully means fixing the trenches first and still getting good WR value later in the draft.
I would get Jones or Wilkins and still draft Burch(Ore), Fiske(Fla St) in the 4th rd. I'm letting Rankins go. I'm also keeping Greenard as long as the price is in the 15m range for next 4 years. Hinish shouldn't be on the roster. If I can get 16 sacks from Jones/Collins and 12 each from Greenard and Anderson and mix in the rest, that's 50 sacks from my front. The trenches will be fine with a healthy ol next year. I'm feeling much better about the DT's with a rotation of Rankins, Collins, Tartt, Hinish although I would draft a DT in the 4th rd range to develop. However if I could add a guy like Jones or Wilkins I would be all over that. The DE"s are set minus what to do with Greenard? Do you sign him long term, Tag him or let him walk and spend the money on a guy like Hunter? Barnett is a guy I would certainly bring back. I also think that the answer is to pay for Jones and play him at DE in pass rush situations or put him at DT next to WA and bring Barnett off of the other edge. So many options, a great thing.
Also I would spend a late rd pick on a developmental edge to go along with the developmental guy they already have in Sanders. Jalyx Hunt is my guy.
Agreed, however I'm even willing to go this far when it come to getting Jones, I'm letting both Greenard and Rankins go to get Jones. re-sign Barnett and add another cheap edge in FA. I'm also all on board for adding a guy like Fiske in the 4th. (I haven't looked at Burch yet.) I also would look at drafting a developmental edge with one of the 7ths. If there was a guy I liked in the 6th I would package the 7ths and move up to get my guy.I would get Jones or Wilkins and still draft Burch(Ore), Fiske(Fla St) in the 4th rd. I'm letting Rankins go. Ryans has found gold among the free agents already on the roster! Let him pick a few guys that aren't asking for top tier dollars and he can add plenty of depth on our D.I'm for getting Stroud the best weapons possible. Christian Harris has turned into a starter and will have to be paid in 2025.
Getting Stroud some weapons will give him the option to get rid of the ball more often - making the OL look good! And by weapons, I mean a dog at WR and RB.I'm for getting Stroud the best weapons possible. If that means spending a first on a wr then so be it. Texans need more plays like the Collins screen pass last Saturday. It puts more pressure on the safeties to come up and fill. Which can open up the middle of the field for Stroud to make plays. So yeah, find guys that can take the short pass and get yards after catch. Austin Ekeler would be a nice 3rd down back. I think Cordarrelle Patterson still has tread on his tiresGetting Stroud some weapons will give him the option to get rid of the ball more often - making the OL look good! I would love to add Bucky Irving in the 3rd or Benson/Allen in the 2nd and add Patterson in FA to go along with Singletary. To clarify, Jones is Chris Jones the defensive tackle that's going to cost 30 million plus a p y? I am not opposed to that and I think cap can be adjusted to fit him plus another superstar that I have in mind. The trenches will be fine with a healthy ol next year. May as well go a full blown reunion - they can hire Teapot as the HC and we trade Metchie to them. Bryce should feel right at homeIf the Texans draft a WR high....I really wouldn't have an issue floating Metchie to the Panthers. Panthers could be interested in giving Young a receiver he's familiar with in 2024. What could Caserio get in return? Maybe Texans could throw a couple of their RD7 picks (235 & 243) and Metchie at the Panthers for their 49'ers RD5 pick (164).
