Texans random thought of the day

I to was worried about Deculus at LT.....to my surprise, outside of a few plays where he got his arse handed to him, he held his own. Steelers only managed 6 QBH and -0- Sacks!!!!! That's a hail of an accomplishment for a patched together OL.

As Texans fans go, we have to be extremely encouraged in regards to how the depth pieces on the OL are developing.

It was better than I thought.

Stroud has a tremendous feel for pressure and was getting the ball out FAST!

There were a few times that Watt and Highsmith got off the line faster than our tackles which I didn't even know was possible. Incredible.

Going by how well our stitched together OL has played & how well Slowik has been calling games early results suggest that Ryans has what I consider one of the most important traits in a HC. He seems to have an eye for good assistants which bodes well for the Texans future.

Per CND, Ty Zetner has been released. I assume that means that Cam Johnston is healed up enough to return this weekend.

Big difference between Ty and Cam. Nothing against Ty, but he can't hold a candle to Cam.
Hoping for the same thing...Johnston's leg is in another league. Hopefully we dont have to use him very often, but when we do the guy can switch the field and win field position battle for you.

Perhaps we can tell JJ that something went wrong and we need him to come back for a re-do?

We can tell him we only put the first "9" and the first "J" into the ring of honor and he's got to come back for the other 9, the other J, and every letter of Watt. And maybe every word in "ring of honor". And then there was a mistake because someone let Easterby in the building, and he has to do every individual letter again.

Dude was openly talking mess about Caserio to the public. Caserio puts out the flame, improves his contract after discussion and now he is balling out.

Oh wait, nvm. Hannah had to step in and remove Caserio from the the GM table on this one in order to make Nelson happy.

That is what happened.

it's what I herd...

First I heard of this.

Are y’all saying that Hannah reworked Nelson’s contract because Caserio wouldn’t/couldn’t?

Got a link?

They’re joking! Lol come on TBull

Texans are rising across the power rankings this week. Saw CBS put us the highest at 12 and lowest I saw was 20.

18-20 range sounds about right at this moment

We are not yet middle of the pack, but we are no longer bottom feeders. The arrow of progress is pointing up.

If we beat up Atlanta like we did the Jags and Steelers, then look out. We got the right schedule to take full advantage off.

It is like the last 2 games have been following a script. Look at how similar they played out.

1. The Texans Jump out to a multiple score first half lead
Jaguars 17-0
Steelers 16-0

2. At the start of the second half both Jaguars & Steelers score unanswered points on 2 drives.
Jaguars 17-10
Steelers 16-6

3. The Texans come roaring back.
The Texans extend their lead by scoring at least twice in the second half.

Edit: I meant to say the Texans scored at least 2 touchdowns in the second half.

With the Jags widely expected to run away with the division, it's semi-surprising to see the teams bunched up to open the campaign, particularly with two teams starting rookie quarterbacks.
While Anthony Richardson's play and that of the Colts' defense deserves attention, and the Titans under Mike Vrabel continue to defy expectations, the C.J. Stroud-led Houston Texans are the most surprising team in the division through four weeks.
It's not just that the Texans won their past two games. It's how they won said contests. Houston skated to a 20-point victory in Jacksonville and followed it up by demolishing Mike Tomlin's Steelers by 24 at home. Along the way, Stroud has improved each week, finding the right reads, protecting the football, and ending each game with a massive flourish.
For a team expected to experience another rebuilding season with DeMeco Ryans in his first season and a rookie under center, it's a very encouraging start. But Ryans wasn't ready to smell the roses when asked about the four-way tie at 2-2.
"Yeah, with the standings, we really don't care," he said on Monday, via the official transcript. "It doesn't come to mind to me when you talk about the standings. It's just literally one game at a time, one week at a time. How are we improving throughout the week? That's our main focus, and the outcomes of the season [and] where we'll end up, it'll take care of itself if we continue to focus on our preparation."

I don't think DeMeco is going to fall into that "play it safe" tendency that Kubiak and O'Brien would do when they had a lead in the 2nd half.

He's got a middle linebacker mentality of keeping your boot on the opponent's neck until 0:00. That's badass.

This team is going to have the personality of a middle linebacker with an assassin at QB. :texflag:

I don't know. Felt like they were trying to run the clock out in the 3rd Qtr.

Surely I was looking at it wrong, flashbacks & all that. But it felt real. Run, run, pass on 3rd & long.

SMH

This is the stuff Caserio does, that and contracts. He also gets the players Ryans wants in both FA and the draft.

The offense is getting a lot of deserved attention but we can't forget how well our defense has played.

When if ever is the last time the Texans have a shut-out in the first half of 2 games in a row. Sure there has been some luck involved (missed field goal etc.) but that still says a lot about this young defense.

I can totally relate. I feel the same during those moments.

What makes me start to believe DeMeco might be a different HC is his aggressiveness with 4th downs and throwing TDs with a lead in the 4th quarter. That is a run 3 times up the gut scenario with Kubes and BOB.

We gotta' believe, man! Let go of our broken past and embrace the fun of being fans again. :texflag:

Except CJ has been good on third downs that I don’t even worry about them being in that situation.

I love it. There are some stats that actually tell you things, and 3rd down conversion and turnovers are at the top.

DeMeco Ryans: We’re focused on improving each week, not on standings

Every team in the AFC South is 2-2 through the first four weeks of the regular season, so no one in the division would be foolish to feel they can contend for the division crown as the year unfolds.

That would be a major step forward for the Texans in their first year under head coach DeMeco Ryans. The Texans won 11 games over the last three seasons and cycled through four interim or permanent head coaches over that span, but Ryans isn’t looking that far down the road at this point.

On Monday, Ryans said that the team’s focus remains on improving and that remaining vigilant on that front will put them where they belong in the standings when all is said and done.

“With the standings, we really don’t care,” Ryans said at his press conference. “It doesn’t come to mind to me when you talk about the standings. It’s just literally one game at a time, one week at a time. How are we improving throughout the week? That’s our main focus and the outcomes of the season, where we’ll end up, it’ll take care of itself if we continue to focus on our preparation.”

The Texans have won their last two games by comfortable margins and there’s every reason to think continued improvement is in the cards for players like quarterback C.J. Stroud, edge rusher Will Anderson, and wide receiver Tank Dell as they continue to get acclimated to life in the NFL. Their next four games are against NFC South teams with a bye in the middle, so they appear to be well-situated for a stay at the top of the division even if Ryans won’t be paying attention to that yet.

Nah that's just because of how the game played out. Steelers started the half with the ball and had a long drive for a field goal Texans got the ball back with about 9 minutes left in the quarter.

First Texans drive went run for 6 yards, then two incomplete passes.

Then the Steelers drive down for another field goal.

Texans get the ball back. 1st play is a pass for 15 yards, second play is a short run, then they throw it 2 more times both incomplete.

As a bonus the Texans got the ball back at the very end of the quarter and ran 2 plays. One was a run one was a pass.

Literally not a single possession like that in the 3rd qtr in that game.

One possession like that in the 4th qtr, and they converted on 3rd and 11. Drive ended in a TD to put them up 23-6.

Chris Strausser has to be given a lot of credit for the way the OL has played the past two games with a patchwork unit ....

The play calling of Bobby Slowik can't be overlooked either - he has had back to back spectacular game plans in place.
It's nice to see "pressure beaters" called at the right time and working as intended.
Really like how they attack the middle of the field / up the seams too.

Stroud getting rid of the ball in a hurry doesn't hurt either .... He has done everything Watson couldn't from the pocket in these last two games - quick reads, secondary options, anticipatory throws .... just making good decisions overall.

All of the above have exceeded my expectations so far. Never expected this team to be 2-2.
