The New New JaDeveon Clowney Thread

Oilers off-season's weren't like this , they were competent for the most part , they just had some tough losses in the post season.

This Texans front office has to be the worst in the history of the league , total incompetence. Hell , we expect them to screw up.

Bact to back 1-13

It’s been a helluva run. I’m still a Clowney fan. Wish him all the best in Seattle. You have to wonder about our franchise. Sent two of our more talented players to the ‘hawks for not much. But, Go Texans!

Oh really? Losing Earl Campbell and Bum Phillips in one year is competent? Jerry Glanville. Most of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s were below average to awful. Texan fans are spoiled rotten.

Yeah but they bookended those years with some really good teams …. Just couldn't get past the Steelers and … that debacle in Barfalo …

For the most part the Oilers were a competently run organization …. You cant really say that about this Texans franchise , they have been a clusterf**k from day one.
Yeah, Bud Adams was the most loved owner in the universe, smh.

Bud was a jackass, it was easy and fun to hate him. Cal is just your normal dumbass who seems like a nice guy with empty head. They're both just as ineffective though.

After the Gaine firing this day has Cal written all over it. I’ve been saying this guy has a short fuse that I believed was honed watching his dad just do nothing for so long other than always saying how he wants to get more knowledgeable about football. Looks to me like OB had been handcuffed now he and Cal are acting like a couple of hoods. I kinda like it so far.

I dont think you understood my post or maybe I wasn't clear.

In no way have I absolved this franchise. Here or anywhere else in life.

My post was simply about Clowney's perceived value based on the deal that was done.
Clowney value as tagged vs open market are two different things. Completely different. And in the end he stuck it to OB.
Clowney will be open market next year.

Clowney won this.

Clowney absolutely destroyed O'Brien.

His value will be know when he signs his extension.

When this all started Clowney said he wants to play in Houston for a lot of money. O'Brien said, "Ain't gonna happen."

It didn't happen.

Honestly, the only winners here are the Seahawks.

We'll see...

Clowney still gets a lot of money, will sign his tender and get every game check. If he has a good year he'll get his deal. And he goes to a good team.

& Houston isn't going to be the one paying him. Bob still got what he wanted regardless what Clowney does or signs or whatever.

It is impossible to evaluate this trade without consideration given to its implications toward looming extensions. It’s a balancing act to get players under contract and individual winners can hobble rosters. It actually is value relative to the contract as OB has stated. This will play through over time, not today.

I think they didnt get enough but that aside--for this year specifically (assuming he'd be here at some point) I'd consider this a major L.

You know what good players are cheap and don't need extensions?

First and second round picks.

I ask myself would a good team have made these trades today?

I dont think so.

These are raiders, cardinals type moves.

I cannot defend the Clowney trade, complete mismanagement of a top end asset. However, the Pats traded C. Jones for Cooper (who was a bust) and a 2nd rd pick. Our deal isn’t that far off (I’m trying to find some upside)

Gotta stop comparing things to what the Pats do. They go to and win multiple Super Bowls. They can weather doing the things they do.

Someone said this trade is something bad teams do, I’m just showing a really good team made a similar trade. That good team happens to be the Patriots. The Steelers trade AB for a 3rd, there, a good team that’s not the Pats

Let us not forget that Bill O'Brien is not making these decisions by himself. The Texans are on the hook for Clowney's signing bonus as well. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...s-agreed-to-split-jadeveon-clowneys-2019-pay/ This is completely Osweiler v2.0. BO'b and Co. has run a 3x pro-bowl edge rusher out of town and they didn't care what it would cost.

Add that to the ridiculous price the Texans gave up for Tunsil and Stills, that smacks of nothing but "I'm the smartest guy in the world attitude." There are only a few ways this will turn out. I will hope this "Win Right ******* Now" mentality transitions into a Superb Owl. But I'm guessing this franchise is going to stay in the shitter for a good long while.

Do we need to do an exorcism on the City of Houston? Cuz, I can't believe how poorly the Football Gods treat this town. What can we do to appease them?

I can see why the previous GMs were fired. They tried to stop this madness.

Somehow cal thinks all this is fine.

Tweet from @RossTuckerNFL: @AdamSchefter You have GOT to be kidding me.This is front office malpractice at this point and Texans fans should sue.

...But I'm guessing this franchise is going to stay in the shitter for a good long while ...
Just unfathomable the mentality that considers 3 division titles in 4 years to be "in the shitter". We are Division Champs and have just completed an off season where we have made moves to become a.better team than last year's winners. And yet we have posters to this board who want the team to tank the season, just because of their dislike for the coach. Boy, some example of fandom.

I don't see the glass as half full. I look at the talent we have on both sides of the ball and I see a glass which is full to the brim. Injuries can always deal a bad hand, but this can be our year to make a legitimate run.

Tweet from @RossTuckerNFL: Last Texans tweet for now:

Trading two 1's & a 2 for Tunsil (I think MIA was cutting Stills anyway) is a win-now move.

If that's the case, why trade Clowney, especially when you get a 3 for him after season anyway?
The comp pick would come in 2021. And would only be awarded if the Texans had a plus loss in FAs. With all of the draft choices traded to Miami, the Texans will need to hit FA next offseason just to fill the roster. So, that comp pick would likely not get to the Texans.

What exactly have those division titles garnered? Nothing but 1 Wildcard win. That doesn't get a team to the Super Bowl. "In the shitter" to me means that the coaching staff can't get it done. No amount of training that talent the O'Brien way has gotten the Texans to the Super Bowl. I can't see it happening if the front office has gone into desperation mode.

If you're happy with Division wins in one of the worst divisions in football, good on ya. I cannot look at our record and be satisfied. How many winning teams do we beat year in and year out? Not many. I want a team that can punch the Patriots in the mouth and take their lunch money. I don't see that happening with these moves.

Fandom isn't about being all happy and Rosie no matter what the Front Office is doing. Fandom is about looking at the weaknesses as well and understanding realistically how far that team is going to go. I've spent the last 17 years crying over their losses and jumping for joy over the Texans wins. I can't waste that much energy on this anymore. This roller coaster ride isn't worth the price of admission any more.

Now we know why the Texans got so little out of the deal. The Seahawks can't do a tag and trade.

Leverage must be Clowney's middle name. I'm guessing this deal was made after Clowney brought his agent back.

Clowney destroyed the texans front office in negotiations.

In the end, it sure looks like Clowney did have the leverage in this whole situation. The leverage shifted to him once he learned the Texans were trying to trade him. There is only speculation as to why, but OB must have really wanted him gone for this to end up in this manner.

Clowney did his part. But a big part was self inflicted by the gang on Kirby.
Texans flat organizational structure:

I can’t wait for the press conference where BOB tries to explain/sell this to us being a good thing.

There’s a big part of me that hopes the press conference turns into the walk of shame scene from Game of Thrones where everyone stands up and yells “Shame!” at BOB whilst pelting him with garbage

Except if anyone sees Billy naked, they're the ones who'll be shamed. Like everything else O'Brien does.. it'll backfire on us.

I wonder if they were thinking long term and how to re-sign Mercilus, and thought to make him happy Clowney had to go. For sure Clowney was gone and if he said I ain't coming in to week 8, maybe they just said a bag of chips and happy Mercilus is better. I get the Tunsil trade, still grasping for clues on Clowney
