State of the O-line

I have no idea what they're thinking, but I'm hoping that giving looks to Kelemete at center means that they're considering letting Martin go and having Kelemete backup Fulton at center. I have a feeling that that's wishful thinking though.
Agree but I think team is just trying to find some way of keeping Kele if useful. If he cannot stay on field at OG is it any more likely he can survive at center? I really don't know.

And I'm not sure Davenport is capable of making that block consistently.

All I'm saying is we haven't seen enough of Davenport to say if he's still that player who wasn't good enough last year, or 8f he's gotten any better as you'd expect a professional to do from year to year.

But yea, I see what you're saying.

This clip just looks hilarious.

Tweet from @riversmccown: Pocket on Joe Webb's interception in second quarter. I get that these guys don't have many snaps together (Kelemete at center?), and that this is a zone blitz -- but what? https://t.co/gVzArYlQj7

What the hel is O'Brien teaching them? Looks like Kelemente is running out of the way.

How much of seeing Davenport would it take for you to see he cant play OT at an acceptable NFL level?

Looks like Scharping played the right aide expecting Martin to help him. Instead Martin drops back 5 yards and can’t handle the rusher once he engages. I’m still convinced Martin is our weak link.

Scharping whiffing again. Martin expecting to help whichever side needs help because Scharping should be ok on his own. Same thing as the previous clip where Kelemete bailed thinking Scharping should have his guy.

Around the NFL: So I’m watching Dallas and Houston on
@nflnetwork
. The #Texans are a mess up front. I’ve heard rumblings about their offensive line, and they have struggled the past couple of years. But this is a whole new level of bad play.

@OnePantherPlace
I’m telling you, there’s something in the water down there. But this is about the worst offensive line play I’ve seen in all my 38 years.

There’s no way Watson survives this season. I feel bad for poor Joe Webb here. #Texans#Cowboys. Again: #Panthers vs. #Texans, 9/29.

If not for the athleticism of former #Panthers QB/ST standout
@JoeWebb_14
, this is another sack. I don’t see how they’re going to protect Watson this year, especially with Lamar Miller done for the season. #Panthers vs #Texans meet on 9/29. Will be an interesting game

Complete dumpster fire last night. But there's 5-6 guys that have looked good individually so far imo, but they're not playing together at the same time. If they evaluate and not let draft positions or contracts factor into their depth chart, there's still some hope.

Because that's the way they do it on Kirby?

I am guilty of continuing to think that they might eventually make better decisions. If they don't move Fulton to center but keep Martin, and let Rankin or Kelemete go with nothing in return instead, I don't ever want to hear about BOB just coaching the guys he's given again. He's coaching the guys he's picking and he keeps picking the wrong one's. I do think that there's a chance that they'll get it right though.

Lamar Miller was an excellent blocker.

He will now be replaced with someone with very little experience in this system.

Unless they get Blue back

Texans sign 2018 UDFA LT Christian DiLauro who was cut by Cleveland and SF.

Link

Probably just a camp body (I hope).
They lost a LT a short time back with an ankle injury/surgery. DiLauro replaces that player. We'll need a LT on the practice squad and I'm guessing this will be DiLauro's role.

Excellent is stretching it & You’re overplaying your hand. Miller knew his blocking assignments as well as anyone and he will now be replaced with someone who doesn’t know them as well.

They will be OK.

Duke is good in pass pro from what I've read.

Love Munch .. but im feeling a fresh new mind to the game may be what is needed here. Munch didnt necessarily light the world on fire in TENN. He would be an upgrade to OBrien no doubt. If Im pairing Watson with an ex NFL coach I may be more inclined to go with Mike McCarthy or even Jim Harbaugh. I'd really rather go after guys like Eric Bieniemy (KC), Dan Campbell (NO), David Shaw (Stan), Brian Kelly (ND) hell I might even bring Mike Leach for the laughs and exciting offense. If Klinger can get a gig so should Leach, he taught all those guys that offense. But yeah, Im ready to have this conversation.

If 50 sacks happen most of those wont be on Duke.

50 is way too many. IMHO

Exactly. I've already pointed out how DW4 took an unnecessary sack in Saturday's game against the cowboys. That wasn't on the o-line or the rb. So given his style of play (running, holding the ball) which lends itself to sacks, i think low to mid 40's is about where I think it'll end up...Which isn't bad considering that in any given year TB12 takes around 40 sacks a year & 2, many of those sacks will be on DW4.

I know the o-line looks horrible right now, but i'm fairly confident they will be better during the season assuming no major injuries hit them............ & the realization that Davenport/Kalil just isn't going to cut it at LT.

The more I think about it, the more I think that OB started Davenport at LT instead of Johnson just to give the Johnson supporters the finger and let everyone know who's in charge. I sincerely think OB is so egotistical that he would sit a better player, risking his franchise QB in the process, to keep the media quiet about a potentially better player on the roster.

Davenport had not played with the 1's. On this board there is consensus that Johnson is the better of the two, but it makes sense that O'Brian would want to see Davenport with the 1's before making a final decision. This is what the pre-season games are for. Our OL is too much in flux to not start him. Hopefully it is now clearer that Johnson has played his way ahead of Davenport.

What are training camp and practice for?

It would make sense just not with the ones. Unforced error.

Why do ask this? Why should I respond?

The games are under game.conditions. Practices are not. Combined practices are better than team practices, but are still not game.condition.

They have joint practices too which obrien likes because they simulate game conditions without risking injury.

What is the point of all that if not to see where guys are and teach the system and develop them?

The truth is OBrien has no idea what he's looking at, so he throws random dudes in random positions "just to see."

It's also counterproductive when Davenport has been practicing at RT then get throws in at LT to fail and get people injured. Same with Fulton at LG and a Martin that just got back from a hamstring injury. Lost Miller for the season due to that stupidity.

Also ask why Crennel doesn't seem to be confused about who to start where.

Even my wife was like, “The runningback is literally RIGHT THERE staring at him. Toss the freakin ball to him, Watson!” Lol!

That was a wtf moment no doubt. One would think he would have just taken the 5-6 yards that the defense was begging him to take for his own damn good. But nope, he chose to get cute and fumbled the ball right to them.

O'Brien blames Watson for the OL.

Tweet from @PatDStat: Bill O’Brien was asked about the offensive line vs the Cowboys and what went wrong. His answer. #Texans https://t.co/MplVRH1aqg

You would have to take your hate googles off long enough to actually read a post that isn't "OMG BOB is the WORST!" to notice that two of the plays discussed on here were the first two plays where YES Watson needed to get the ball out quickly and Dhop was open if he did AND that they failed to block the backside (Fulton and Davenport) on the play Miller was hurt.

I would be more than happy to move on from OB for a different coach - lack of results during his tenure is enough for me, no need to point at everything he says (especially when he is probably (most likely) correct) and shout 'see told you he sucks'.

Maybe teach your pony another trick?

If Watson makes it through 16 games healthy he better play the lotto and hit the casino that minute because he will officially be the luckiest person in the world.

I can agree on the strip sack that he maybe could have gotten the ball to the RB, though he may have been blocked by the lineman. On the other one, nice work on the screenshots, do you have a video on it?
