Houston as a dstination for FA's

It hasnt even been a year yet since daddy passed. Little early to be expecting big changes. And his mother is still basically in charge

When would you think would be a good time?

1yr, 5 yrs, 10 yrs?

After his mother passes?

I don't know Cal or how aligned he was with his dad, but I do know he won't change things to please you or I... he'd be a fool if he did

Yep, doing everything possible to protect your franchise QB and looking to the future instead of holding on to the past isn't the Texans way. Agreed

How much of a chance do you think they have?

If it's less than 50% then it's time to rebuild.

50%!?!?!?

Wow, your expectations are EXTREMELY high! Vegas currently has the Patriots with the best chance to win it all next season, and they still are giving them only a 16.6% chance. If Vegas gives them those same odds over the following two seasons, they still don't quite meet your 50% requirement. So according to your metrics, every team in the NFL should be rebuilding.

This is my point, I want them to have the strongest team possible in 3 yrs after Brady retires. The Texans aren't winning anything until Brady retires.

Not every team is in this boat. I think the Chiefs/Saints/Eagles/Rams and my darkhorses Falcons and the Kubiak offense lead Vikings can beat the Pats.

Unfortunately the Texans aren't in this group, ask yourself why aren't they in this group? The easy answer is BOB, the true answer is it goes much deeper than BOB. IMHO

Yes, I always set my expectations extremely high. Its both a positive and sometimes a negative thing in life.

Sacred cows?

No, 16 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 18 TFLs & 25 QB hits while underpaid for that performance. That's why you keep him.

I'm just saying if you want to be like the Pats be like the Pats.

They let Seymour/Chandler Jones go when they got expensive and recouped draft picks and cap space.

Both in the last year of their contracts. You're 2 years too early.

If you're not going to win a SB those stats dont matter.

Difference is Watt likely wont be healthy in 2 yrs and now is the time to maximize his trade value. 2 totally different situations. Plus I will admit I want to see Watt get a chance to play for a championship before he retires and that's very unlikely to happen with the Texans.

Like I said, I think you are seriously over-reacting and you have changed your stance 180 degrees in last 2 months... patience grasshopper. Loudest bird doesn't get the worm

After I've seen nothing has changed you're correct.

Best they can hope for is fixing the OL. After re-signing Henderson I bet they go into next season with Draft pick/Kelmete/Martin/Henderson as the starting OL. This would be Texans worthy.

But the Chiefs/Saints/Eagles/Rams/Falcons do NOT have a better than 50% chance of winning a SB in the next three years. According to your own words, they should be looking to rebuild.

If you think they DO have a +50% chance, you should place some bets w/ Vegas. Easy money for you.

Find ONE team those stats wouldn't matter to

Apparently you didn't want to respond to the rest of the post.

Remember I'm the guy who wanted to trade AJ later in his career.

Watt is likely to follow AJ's career path if he can stay healthy.

I'm not stupid enough to bet on the NFL. It's rigged. Ask the Saints, I've been saying this for yrs. Speaking of the Saints if I had to bet on one team to beat the Pats it would be them.

The McNair family is too loyal to coaching and management staff for sure. Lack of football knowledge per say? I am thinking so. It might not be all their fault after all.

Yep, veru unPatriot like.

I'm not betting on anyon'e health/lack of in a violent game. You're just a contrarian that :uprights:whenever you can't counter successfully. I'm not gonna play your game of prove me wrong because it's all opinion based and yours smells like everyone else's

Andre will be eligible in 2021.

If we're assuming JJ is done after this contract is up (not at all a guarantee, but ok) then he'll be eligible in 2026.

Could turn out wrong, but I'll go with Andre not having to wait a full five years.

Hell, maybe they go in together?

That would be cool.

I just have a different philosophy, I want them to completely tear it down and rebuild it. I dont and never have had feelings for any particular player, I look at them as assets and soon Watt will be a declining asset. Time to cash in.

I'm all about the Texans winning a Lombardi and dont think this group of players can get the job done. You do, this is really simple and we will see who's right. I certainly hope you are, because the Texans aren't ever going to trade the face of their franchise, even though they should if they're trying to emulate the Pats org. No moving the goalposts.

When did the Patriots trade Brady?

Brady is the exception and that's only because of Kraft.

Kraft making BB trade Jimmy G resulted in BB benching Butler in response to Krft and it cost them a SB.

BB let Kraft know who was in charge and basically gave Kraft the finger. God I love how BB goes about his business. Be rest assured that the McNair's would never hire BB.

So what so drastically changed your opinion from a month ago?

Aikman was Brandt's last 1st rd pick before he was fired, so the former Cowboys staff was still in place for that draft.

What are the chances of landing Emmitt at 23 and I like Jacobs alot. But until they get their Tuinei/Newton getting Jacobs wont matter. It's time to fix the OL and this is a good OL draft. I'm good with Gaine not fixing the secondary if it means fixing the OL since the Texans aren't winning a SB anyways next yr. BTW, There's a shot the Texans could draft Jacobs at 23 and Little/Risner or McGary at 54/55. Would you be happy with rds 1-2 if the draft fell this way and those were the Texans picks?

Tuinei/Newton were ascending young players who got with Houck who's a great OL coach. Something you cant say talentwise or coachingwise the Texans currently have.

I notice that you didn't address the Haley/Texans worthy part of my post. Do you think the Texans would add a guy like Haley if it meant having a chance to win 5 rings?

You realize of course that before Emmitt, Tuinei and Newton were jag's?

Was with you right up until the bolded...

Not sure why you're trying to make Aikman a Landry regime pick. Gil Brandt was a scout/director of player personnel. Tex Schram was the GM who had resigned to head the WFL (which briefly had a Houston Texans team). Like Kubiak in 2006, Jimmy Johnson was in charge of the 1989 draft.

Yes.

Didn't respond because it's pure speculation.

Young ascending guys

Undrafted in a 12 round draft. Ascending my ass.

Newton almost ate his way off the team several times under Landry. Jimmy Johnson beat him in a race, got him better disciplined on food and moved him from LG to RT and back to LG before he got good.

Tuinei was a backup DT. Desperation made them flip him to OL where he tried out all over. 1987 & 1988 were both ended by knee injuries. So what Jimmy Johnson got was a LT with 12 games of the last 32.

You live in hindsight... in 1990 they weren't ascending anything

Do I,

I'm asking for something bold and make predictions far ahead of time. Kinda like with the OL the last 2 years.

Now I am predicting they can't win with this group. Far from hindsight. You just don't like my prediction and remedy.

Your comments about the Cowboys are hindsight. 1990 Aikman got beat up and the line gave up 43 sacks. That was with Tuinei, Newton & Stepnoski.

19 times less and my point is Johnson inherited talent. Disagree if you would like.

I asked for your opinion on Haley and you seem to have an opinion on everything but this. Wonder why that is?

Bottom line is we have these same discussions every year and until things change within ownership philosophy we will be having them again next offseason

I'm all for a complete gut & start all over. Trade Watt, trade Clowney, trade all dem sunsvabeaches, except Watson.

But you gotta get rid of the entire offensive coaching staff.

I'm all for firing everybody, if they rebuild and work their way out of mediocrity.

I'm at a Broadway show as we speak and it's not as entertaining as you guys.

Intermission is about over and I gotta get back to my seats

He did not deliberately sit a CB to lose a super bowl.

You're jumping to conclusions and you're conclusions jumped a shark.

Everybody can draw their own conclusions

But there's no doubt about who runs the show in Foxboro.
