2019 Texans free agency

I really wanted Tyrell Williams. Its free agency and players have their choice, but give him a little extra in yrs or money.

Well Daryl Williams is gone. Looks like I was right. They plan to go into next year with Crohn's illness or injury waiting to happen Henderson as their starting RT unless they decide to wake up and make Schraeder an offer. A guy I know almost nothing about, and he's still better than what we have up front.

Not one single Olineman. Not a single one.

EPIC fail Gaine. Totally inept leadership. Casserly, Smith, Gaine. What do they all have in common? A McNair under their thumb. Classic McNair BS moves.

Bargain moves in FA will always be the best moves and the moves that repeatedly help to win championships. Teams like the Browns are gonna Brown, and when they fail to win a Superbowl in the next few years they will return to the same hell they've spent the last several years in - such is the fate of the fiscally irresponsible.
Browns are going to have a better season than we will. Mark it down that I called it on March 13 and remember it when we muddle below .500 next season. I can see them making the AFC Championship game. No joke. Dorsey is taking risks and maximizing the talent while Baker is on a rookie deal. The Browns have a **** ton of talent. We wasted JJ’s career prime. We’re doing the same with Nuuk and DW4. The Texans have pissed me off and frustrated me more and given me less happy moments than the Oilers, Rockets and Astros combined and I’m in my 40s and had my heart broken by the Oilers. I’d rather have Bud and the Oilers any day of the week than this Wonderbread, boring, conservative bullshit that the McNairs are feeding us. I’m still here because I love football and it’s my diversion from real life. Thank God for Tom Herman, Sam Ehlinger and the rest of the Horns. They will provide a break from O’Brien ball. Thank you steelb for speaking the truth about this franchise. You’ve been vindicated by the results. The sunshine pumpers have no counter-argument. Guys who were like Vinny have abandoned ship

Is that what the Rams did last yr?

The Eagles the yr before?

Nope they made trades/FA signings to augment their really good drafting.

Don’t forget about the Broncos and Seahawks.

They drafted well and made some impact fa signings as well.

Maybe the Texans just don’t feel like they are ready.

I wouldnt blame them because I don’t think they are close.

Except that SteelB has spent the better part of the last year plus trying to convince all the people that visit this board that the Gaine/BOB combo is the second coming of Laundry/Schramm with the old Cowboys. I mean come on man. Now all the sudden, it's all this revisionist history BS because he doesn't like this FA period. He's been doing nothing but pumping sunshine for the last year so let's get real.

I don't know anything about Schraeder either, but simply comparing PFF scores...

He was the 54th ranked tackle, which is lower than Kendall Lamm. He had a great 2016, scoring over 80, but has decreased the past two seasons.

I'm all for bringing him in, but I wouldn't assume he's better than what we already got.

Guys who were like Vinny have abandoned ship

Vinny is a great guy, but I don't think he left here because of the Texans performance. No reason for you you to not abandon ship also, since you have the great UT to follow. Or, do you just like bitching and then being able to say 'I told you so'? Do you really think your rants on a MB matter?

Went over the CBS list of top 50 free agents and where they signed. Two of them were Texans.

None of the fifty were signed by the Texans.

Don't want to be a Debby Downer but the future, so far, seems ominous for the Texans.

So far steelb is thoroughly pizzed. Me, so far, I am just disgusted.

I'm all for fiscal responsibility but not acquiring one of the available O linemen was highly irresponsible.

The ones we trotted out there last season proved to not be up to the task.

Yes, but SteelB spent the previous 7 years or so bitching that the Texans were cheap and sucked because of it

It's extremely easy to predict a team won't win a championship. Bearing all things equal, a team has a 3% chance of winning the Super Bowl in a given year. Even Vegas is giving the Pats only a 15% chance of wining it all next season. Claiming the Texans won't win a championship isn't making some unbelievable proclamation, it's simply stating the highly most favorable outcome.

did some checking, it seems Darth Belichick has made a couple of moves: Re-signed John Simon and Jason McCourty and has somehow (Jedi mind trick) gotten Michael Bennett from the Eagles for a third-day draft pick or two.
LINK

And just to be clear, are we putting all F/A moves in this thread or only moves the Texans make (including rumors about the Texans)???

They haven't done anything to make their team really any better.

You also forgot to mention that they signed to hold onto the tender for Josh. They're apparently going to roll the dice on him again which is incredibly foolish but they're doing it.

This regime ought to be charged with criminal negligence. Not signing a veteran tackle that can protect Watson to at least a somewhat competent level is damn near unforgivable. So now they are literally stuck at taking a tackle in the first round. That is it - tackle or bust.

And even then, let's face it, even good tackles take a year to get their feet wet and it's year two before you know what you have.

Hell, I'd take a tackle in round 1, another in round 2, and a guard/center in round 3.

Maybe if they throw enough darts at the board, maybe they will find one that our vaunted oline coach can't ruin, although I'm sure he will try.

This team is a joke.

I'd be surprised if the Texans added anyone else during the first stage of FA. They lost Mathieu and Jackson which equals 2 comp picks next year. Signing Roby cancels one of those. They won't want to cancel out the other.

This one year prove it stuff is silly when you dont negotiate in the season. So if I sign a one dear and ball out, I'm gonna test free agency.

Are these guys trying to build up comp picks?

They are worried about all the free agents they have to sign the next couple years and no one knows if the cap is really going to go up.

Ya know, I’m not on Twitter, social media etc so I’m just curious with all of our NON-MOVEMENT with FA linemen I have to wonder what Watson thinks about it? I hope he’s bulking up, working on his slip moves and his quick dart out of trouble awareness...actually I’m quite sure he’s not said anything but to be a fly on the wall at his house

He see's whats going on, just not going to say anything. Thats not how he he operates.

They still have that? Thought that went away with Rick Smith.
Well, Mathieu sees the similarities in the two contract situations, and he knows how the Texans can avoid losing another key player after one year of production. Sean Pendergast of SportsRadio 610 in Houston wrote that this one-year strategy "worked out ok" for the Honey Badger, which prompted a very pointed response from Mathieu.
Gotta sign him during next season, can’t just lose players because you won’t extend during season.. most players will test market. just a thought," Mathieu wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted.

can't wait to see how much Alfred Blue is gonna sign for.
$5m
They are going to have some combination of Davenport/Henderson/Draft pick playing OT positions this yr. That doesn't bode well for the Texans next yr, or Watson's long term health for that matter, particularly with this schedule.

The Texans played with fire last yr with Davenport/Lamm at LT. This yr is the yr they get burned unless they draft a rookie at LT that can play at a high level week 1. which is unlikely at best.

Offsides Davenport always offside Davenport

It is actually a very good strategy... Consider the Honey Badger's situation- the Texans got a good year of production, helping them to an 11-5 record. Now, they are in pristine salary cap situation and essentially signed Gipson to replace him at half the cost. As a result, the Texans are likely to net a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick next season. It isn't as if they exclusively sign players to one year "prove it" deals, but they have moved towards shorter free agent deals that they can get free from in a year or two... As a result, if they draft well, they will be able to retain their homegrown talent without have salary dumping seasons.

Ok so player x signs a prove it deal.
Then player x is in week 12 of the season and is playing at an allstar level. FA hits he is gone or the front office locks him down with a deal that is mutually beneficial.

So we finally got that qb. Here's a plan, let's do nothing and horde tens of millions.

It's still early? All the good players gone, but still some tier III left?

And just think of the cap space they'll have next year.

Easy now. Tier III? Let's not break the bank.
